  • Ronan is a Kirby Kreation, isn't he?

(Thanos is reheated Kirby, come to that.)

  • Lee and Kirby created him for the Fantastic Four. The FF stumbled across and destroyed the Kree Sentry. The Kree sent Ronan to investigate and he was sent packing. The Kree then sent Captain Mar-Vell and his crew to determine whether earth humans should be destroyed.

    So far, we haven't been.

  • Well, he's reached pretty major supervillain status in a blockbuster movie now.  Who'da thunk it!

  • I was really surprised to consider that the movie had Ronan, Thanos, and the Collector, and I recognized all of them. The idea that Ronan would be in a blockbuster movie looking pretty much like he did when I first read him in the 1960s is pretty amazing.

Happy Thanos, much like the Happy Galactus on my shelf, is not a good thing. I think that's as happy as Ronan can look.

  • I'm sure all the who-has-rights-to-which-characters have been worked out between Marvel Studios and Fox Studies. Supposedly, all mutants go to Fox's X-Men franchise (yes, I know about Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch being exceptions), and concepts like Galactus, Silver Surfer and the Skrulls go with Fox's Fantastic Four franchise. So how is it that the Kree and Ronan, who are FF concepts and characters, can be part of the Marvel franchise? For that matter, what about the Inhumans and Black Panther, both of whom started out as FF concepts but are rumored to be in the mix for future Marvel movies?

Maybe when I get home I'll take a photo of the happy (Super-hero Squad) versions of some of those characters and post it to keep this on-topic.

  • I guess a smiling Galactus means he just had a hearty meal of a populated world.

  • If Fox and Marvel negotiated the rights to the various characters, maybe (like Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch) they decided to both use the Kree. Either that or Fox doesn't want/can't handle too many characters in the FF franchise, which up to now has been struggling. They're probably more interested in the X-Men movies.
