Just curious - is anyone particularly interested in this thread?  Besides me, I mean?  I only ask, because I see no responses besides my own - don't get me wrong, I'm not trolling for responses here, I'm just thinking that if no one is particularly amazed by the thread,  then, while I'd keep updating the list for my own edification - if no one else's - I wouldn't keep bumping the thread up to the top of the page every time I finished a book, thereby displacing other, more generally popular threads.

Thank you, drive through.

I give it a wee look now and then.  I'm not so down with Japanese literature, so much of it is "Greek to me".  If I read more prose fiction and 'proper books' I'd probably follow up a few of your reccomendations.  As it is I seem to be on a mission to reduce my brain to mush via a diet of really bad superhero comics...

Actually, I did try to get you talking about some of your books on a previous list way back when I first arrived on this discussion board, but you told me to read the books!  :-)

You don't seem to be running out of books to read, but I was thinking of putting in a few 'requests' just to see what you'd make of them.

And 24 books in 2 months is a heckuva rate.  You're burning through these!  I've read not much more than two books in the last 24 months.

I've just noticed that you read Audition recently.  That has to be one of the most messed up movies I've ever seen.  Half the paying audience at the cinema I saw it in got up and left while I was watching it.  I've never seen that before or since.  My cousin was with me, and he was about to get up and leave himself, but then he started laughing hysterically out of sheer terror and that sort of released the tension for him, and he stayed to the end.

Kiri! Kiri! Kiri!

I'm interested, Baron. I don't happen to know most of the books you've done so far, so I haven't had anything to say. I think I've got Kokoro somewhere, but I haven't gotten to it. I've seen part of the film Woman of the Dunes; I'd be interested in hearing what you thought of the book. You're probably familiar with the expression "the floating world".

It is a fact that, clever a fellow as like to think I am, I'm not very good at expressing my thoughts sometimes.  My reviews tend to be "Book good. Bob sleepy now. I like ham."

I've seen part of the film Woman of the Dunes; I'd be interested in hearing what you thought of the book.

I quite enjoyed the book. As with Secret Rendezvous, it's another story where the protagonist suddenly finds himself getting caught up in an insane situation. I'm definitely going to look for some more of his stuff.

That's Takashi Miike for you - the man specializes in the weird stuff.

Half the paying audience at the cinema I saw it in got up and left while I was watching it.

Reminds me of when I saw Howard the Duck.

Oh, and thanks again, folks.

Oh, and there will be some non-Japanese books eventually, I go into the City every few months to visit Books Kinokuniya, is all.

Updated. Snow Country was another interesting book from Kawabata - the story of a man's relationship with a geisha in Japan's far north.

Updated again. Just finished another good thriller from Miyabe - the story of a young pyrokinetic who becomes a vigilante.

Updated again. My copy of Elisabeth Sladen's autobiography came today, and went straight to the top of my "Books to Read" pile.

Finished the Sladen bio - an interesting read. As might have been expected, quite a bit of emphasis on her time in Doctor Who.
