This is the third mini-series co-produced by Marvel Comics and Dynamite Entertainment (following Avengers/Invaders and The Torch) to feature Marvel’s retroactive WWII fighting team of the ‘70s, and if the fist issue is any indication, Invaders Now! will be the best yet. The first issue introduces the threat which brings the team back together. The team itself features the original “Big Three,” their former sidekicks, Union Jack and Spitfire, plus the Golden Age Vision. The latter was never an Invader in the original series, but his presence is a good fit and flows naturally from the Avengers/Invaders series. Issue #1 is basically set-up, but the characterization is good and now that the players are in place, I expect things to kick into high gear with issue #2.

ISSUE #2: This issue deals with a mission from January of 1945 in which the Invaders hold themselves responsible for the deaths of a town full of innocent people, plus previously unknown details about the transformation of Arnim Zola from Nazi scientist into the supervillain we know today are revealed. Good stuff!
ISSUE #4: [Spoilers] Previously, the Invaders had agreed to sacrifice their lives in exchange for those of the villagers they held themselves responsible for not saving during WWII. Just when it looks as if the sole survivor (just a boy at the time of the original incident) is going to forgive them and bring the five-issue series to a premature conclusion, Armin Zola, Master Man, U-Man and Warrior Woman show up and usher Shuma-Gorath through a dimensional portal.
There have been some great online sales recently, and I took advantage of 60% to order a few collections of merely so-so material I gave a pass to at full price. For example, I just yesterday finished reading the “Liberty Legion” collection, comprising various issues of Invaders, Marvel Premiere, Marvel Two-in-One and FF Annual #11, and have been toying with the idea of moving forward into some of the more recent Invaders material. Last weekend I bought a half-price copy of the Captain America: Patriot (Jeff Mace) tpb. I already have the limited series, but the tpb also includes the recent All-Winners one-shot and What If…? #4 all under the same cover.
As far as a reading project is concerned, I’m not able to commit the time to reading along, but I’m familiar enough with the material that I could follow along with the discussion. [ASIDE: Frank Robbins is one of those artists (along with Gene Colan and Mike Sekowsky, to name two) whose styles I didn’t care for when I was young but which I love now.)

Discussion here if you missed it.
Heh. I read #4 this weekend, and realized I had missed reading #3. I find it ironic that #3 is the one issue you hadn't reviewed or summaraized.

I read the Trade of this a while back and enjoyed it. I always enjoy the Invaders and I agree with Jeff; good, not great, but good.
