So, according to Bleeding Cool (whose source is Robinson's own Twitter), James Robinson is leaving Earth 2, as of issue 16. Which, considering that Robinson and Nicola Scott had both hinted that there was a second Earth 2 book by Robinson on the way, means that DC is going to have to scramble to find a new writer (or writers).

I hate to see Robinson go -- I was really enjoying the book, and the slow introduction and reimaginings of the golden-age characters.

But going he is, so who would you like to see take the reins of the Earth 2 title... and what do you think the spinoff is going to be?

The leading speculation on the spinoff is that it would be an Earth-2 Batman solo title, though I'd rather see almost anything else than another Batbook, even if it *is* divorced from the rest. As for writers, I think Matt Kindt, Sholly Fisch, or John Ostrander could do a really good job with the book(s).

  • There was a new Batman of Earth 2 mentioned in some of the dc comics this month.

  • Yeah, he'll be the focus of the upcoming Earth 2 Annual in two weeks. That's why there's heavy speculation that he'll be the one getting his own spinoff book.

  • Doggone it, Wonder Woman is the only DC title I still buy regularly.

As much as I've chimed in lately that I'm no longer a "DC guy" (which I was for over twenty years), I really hate it. I'm really liking what I've been buying from Marvel especially, but also Image and Dark Horse, but it does my heart no good to say that I no longer read DC with the exception of a title that bears no real connection to the rest of the universe.

    Surely it will change, no?

  • A new interview with Matt Kindt regarding his villains month titles reveals that, despite his writing Earth 2: Solomon Grundy, he's not the new Earth 2 writer. Too bad:

Now, James Robinson has announced that he's left "Earth 2." Is there any chance this assignment leads to you taking over "Earth 2" as the series writer?

No, they don't have me doing that. I am sorry to see James go; I'm a huge fan of his, and he gave me some good feedback on my Solomon Grundy story. I don't know what's going on there.

  • Ah, *this* is the thread I was looking for when Tom Taylor was announced as the new Earth 2 writer! I thought I was going crazy...

  • When I first saw Tom Taylor's name on a credit, I assumed it was a nomme de plume for Mike Carey, because the main character in Unwritten is Tommy Taylor. It took hearing an interview with him on a podcast for me to be convinced that it wasn't really a pseudonym.
