Jeff Lemire talks 'Constantine'

We announced earlier that Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes will be writing the new ongoing series CONSTANTINE. We asked Jeff Lemire about what it's like writing his favorite character. Check out what he had to say about the character he's been dabbling with in JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK and will now be launching in his own ongoing series with Fawkes.

"As someone who has nothing but respect for the character and the incredible legacy of writers and artists who have worked on him in the past, I want to do everything I can to help create a comic that pays respect to who John was, but also reintroduces him to a whole new audience," says Lemire.
CONSTANTINE #1 debuts March 13.

  • Huh, I was just reading in Previews that Robert Venditti was going to be writing the new Constantine book. I looked it up and apparently not.

Also in the article Jim Zub was replaced on Birds of Prey. Both before they got started.

  • Bleeding Cool, the rumor site, says DiDio is reacting to Marvel dominance in December by shaking everything up, and a number of creative teams will change before they even got started. Apparently that was more than a rumor!

  • With Venditti, if you believe them, and I have no reason not to, he didn't have enough time to put Constantine on his plate as well. If the rest of it is true, it sure seems like an over reaction on DiDio's part. DC should have known Marvel would get great numbers with Marvel Now and cancelling creative teams before they even start is just crazy to me.

Well, Bob Harras has given us every reason not to believe anything they say. If DC's integrity was an issue in court, a lawyer would only have to present a recent statement by Harras to show a jury what DC's word was worth.

Lying about stuff no-one else knows about is probably good business, I'll concede.  That's bread and butter to the Big Two. But this is something else. Breathtaking bare-faced mendacity is now policy at DC, it seems.
