He talks about not being able to get work and such in comics today. Which is a shame for sure. The one part that confused me is that he signed an exclusive contract with DC, but it didn't guarantee him any work. I don't understand what he gets out of a deal like that.

I've often raved about Jerry Ordway as one of the FEW artists who I have NEVER seen a bad job from, every, in over 30 years of his being in the business. This mainly goes for his inking work (inkers tend to drop off in quality at some point, but not this guy), but his pencils have also been among my favorites for a long, long time as well.
His blog was sad, but I think it was good for him to get that all out of his system. His fellow creators certainly spoke well of him in reply. He needs to take the advice of going the Kickstarter route or a least Image or IDW or some other non Big Two spot. I hope he does, I would certainly be there with my dollars.
I really love it when he inks someone else. As good as his pencils are (if a bit old-timey, but that's not a bad thing IMO), his inks are incredible. He lends a real depth to anyone's pencils. One of my favorite works of his is when he did a story for JLA Classified (or maybe just straight-up JLA, can't remember) where he penciled over John Byrne. The combination was so much more than the sum of their parts.
That's JLA 94-99. A vampire story (co-?)written by Chris Claremont, no less.
Didn't it feature the Doom Patrol also?
Indeed, yes. Byrne's awful 'none of the preceding Doom Patrols existed' Doom Patrol. But we can't blame Ordway for that!
This was a good thing? I bought it but found it to be all but "unreadable".
Well, Sensei liked the inking. Sensei is on-topic.
Not sure, but I really loved this story. I'm not a Claremont fan, either, but man, this was a great story.
