Mark Wahlberg says he'd love to be Iron Man if MDjr gave up the role. Your thoughts?

And who would you like to see take over other big comic-book roles that have been well-defined by other actors?

Batman?

Hulk?

Captain America?

Superman?

Spider-Man?

Wolverine?

Storm?

Cyclops?

Lex Luthor?

Magneto?

Dr. Doom?

Mr. Fantastic?

Invisible Woman?

Human Torch?

The Thing?

Daredevil?

Steel? (Steel?!?)

Wonder Woman?

Jean Grey?

Catwoman?

Elektra?

  • AAAGH! I just accidentally exed out of this thread when I'd already had so much of it typed out already. I'll do my best here...

Years ago (we're talking late 90's/early 2000's) I posted on some other board my ideal cast for a movie based around The Long Halloween with a sequel of Dark Victory. Keep in mind the time frame in which I wrote these castings, but I'm thinking they were pretty awesome at the time.

Batman/Bruce Wayne: George Clooney. This was well after they had made the Schumacher movie. But I still contend to this day that with a better director and writer, Clooney could have held his own in a much more respectful movie than the one he was in. Can't even remember, seeing as I only saw it once in the dollar theater in college.

The Riddler: Paul Reubens. Tell me this wouldn't have been awesome. Funny with just the perfect touch of creepy.

Catwoman: Fran Drescher. Yes, at the time, she was already annoying. But tell me she wasn't sexy as all hell. Plus, her voice can be tapered down (see This Is Spinal Tap) and at the time, she would have had the perfect "purrrr" to be Batman's femme fatale.

Two-Face: Gary Sinise: I still hold that he would be perfect for this role. He was a fantastic actor in his day, and I think it was his role in Ransom that convinced me of this when coupled with his role in Forrest Gump.

Poison Ivy: Julianne Moore: At the time, I had just seen both Boogie Nights and Magnolia, so I knew she had, in addition to the red hair, the acting chops to pull this one off.

Joker: Tim Curry. I've always thought Tim Curry was the Joker, both with his personality and his skill set.

Commissioner Gordon: Tom Skerritt. You probably still can't convince me that any actor has ever been more perfect for this role.

Calendar Man: John Malkovich. I remember only hearing his voice when reading The Long Halloween in single issues. Again, even today, he still seems perfect for this eerie role.

The Penguin: Danny DeVito: Again, like Clooney, I'd want this character remodeled from the "raised by sewer penguins" version of the movie to a much more businessman/mob boss version of the character complete with an Iceberg Lounge with a burlesque show version of the same character with the same guy behind the scenes.

That's my list. Pick it apart if you like. It's still my idea list from about ten years ago.

  • Hulk? Mark Ruffalo has this one covered.

Captain America? I would have put Matt Damon on this one, but I'm satisfied with the guy who has played him in the CA movie and Avengers.

Superman? I really don't think I care anymore on this one. I can see Nicholas Hoult playing him just fine, but I'm not stuck on it.

Spider-Man? I'm perfectly happy with Andrew Garfield in this role for the foreseeable.

    Wolverine? Perfectly happy as is.

    Storm? See above.

Cyclops? See above-above. (Man, I love Marvel!)

Lex Luthor? I can honestly see The Rock pulling off the cunning. The intelligence? Well, maybe...

    Magneto? Christoph Waltz.

    Dr. Doom? James Spader.

Mr. Fantastic? Andy Buckley (who played David Wallace on The Office).

    Invisible Woman? Helen Hunt.

Human Torch? Some young guy like Zack Efron or something. Whoever it is needs to be the perfect blend of teenager and young 20's.

The Thing? All CGI voiced by Brad Garrett.

    Daredevil? Brad Pitt, easily.

Steel? (Steel?!?) Idris Elba. Equally easy.

Wonder Woman? An early 90's Gina Davis.

Jean Grey? See Storm. Happy with whoever was playing her before.

Catwoman? Now? I'd say Melora Walters.

    Elektra? Gina Cerano.

  • I wouldn't have minded Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor in the last Superman reboot, played for malevolence rather than comedy as in the ones he did with Christopher Reeve.

  • Sorry but Halle Berrie's Storm is The worst hero depiction ever!! (Including Aflek's DD!!)
  • What about Electra?

  • I think Jennifer Garner looked great as Elektra, but she's never been able to be bad-ass enough for me to take her seriously. Sure, she did 'Alias' for a while, but even that didn't really seem right to me.
