Marvel variant covers in May

  • There's a ton of 'em, so I split 'em off into their own thread. Enjoy!

MARVEL COMICS: AAPI HERITAGE COVERS IN MAY

This May, Marvel Comics is proud to honor Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with variant covers highlighting some of its most prominent Asian and AAPI characters! The AAPI HERITAGE VARIANT COVERS will be drawn by acclaimed artist Dike Ruan, known for his incredible work on SHANG-CHI, and colored by artist Neeraj Menon. Adorning the covers of Marvel’s hottest ongoing series, these stunning pieces are bursting with energy, showcasing Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, and more iconic heroes using their extraordinary gifts in stunning circular portraits! Here are the six heroes getting the spotlight in this year’s celebration:

MARVEL COMICS: SKRULL VARIANT COVERS

The Skrulls’ latest takeover begins! Adorning the covers of your favorite ongoing series, see Marvel’s biggest heroes revealed as undercover Skrulls in new artwork this May! Crafted by the industry’s leading artists, these stunning pieces showcase just how devious Marvel Universe’s greatest cosmic foes can be. And later this year, fans can expect the Skrulls to take center stage once more in writer Ryan North and artist Francesco Mobili’s SECRET INVASION, an upcoming limited series starring Nick Fury and Maria Hill that calls back to the iconic 2008 crossover event!

MARVEL COMICS: STORMBREAKERS VARIANTS IN MAY

The next Marvel Stormbreakers variant covers are here! In the latest collection of covers produced by Marvel’s class of elite artists, fans can be transported to various locations throughout the Marvel Universe. The technologically advanced Wakanda, the mysterious jungles of the Savage Land, the mean streets of Madripoor, and the quaint yet fearsome Doom-led Latveria are all brought to life in stunning postcard-style artwork by R.B. Silva, Peach Momoko, Carmen Carnero, and Natacha Bustos, four of the inaugural Marvel Stormbreakers program that was kicked off in 2020.

An evolution of Marvel’s Young Guns program, Marvel’s Stormbreakers represents the comic book industry’s most acclaimed and visionary artistic talents. Marvel Comics has been proud to uplift Carmen Carnero, R.B. Silva, Natacha Bustos, Patrick Gleason, Iban Coello, Peach Momoko, Joshua Cassara and Juann Cabal, and while their contributions to Marvel Comics storytelling are far from over, it’s time to welcome a new generation of Stormbreakers later this year!

“Congratulations to the 2020-2022 class of Marvel's Stormbreakers artists!” Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski said. “The work of all these titanic talents has been and will continue to be absolutely outstanding! I cannot tell you how excited I am to see what comes next for these eight incredible illustrators. And while this celebrated class may be drawing to a close, our Stormbreakers program isn’t going to end here.  A new class of industry-shaking talent is just around the corner, and I just can't wait for you to see who’s next!”

  • Still a bit weirded out by covers that feature characters that don't appear in the book. Always seemed like false advertising, somehow.
