One of our own in trouble

I just got an email message this morning from Lee Houston Jr. who is presently in London. He was mugged and now cannot leave because although he still has his passport, he has no cash and the hotel won't let him leave until the bill is settled which is $500. I would help him but I don`t have $5 until Friday. He left me the contact info if there is anyone out there that can lend him a hand.

  • Ignore the email.  Lee's email account was hacked.  He's fine and is nowhere near London.
  • I was wondering about that. That's a pretty common scam that's going around lately.
  • Thanks, Derrick. I'd not heard of that scam.
  • Couple of my Facebook friends got victimized by the same hacker/scam last year.  The thing I can never understand about this particular scam is this; if you're a friend of mine or even an acquaintance I think it's reasonable to assume you'd inform me and others of an overseas trip.  Getting an email out of left field that you're stuck in London with no money is more than a little suspicious if I have no idea you're there.  And if you're not a friend or an acquaintance then why would I send you money?
