BETTY AND VERONICA #256

"Camp Out Clout!": Archie and the boys head to their favorite camp site leaving Betty and Veronica behind. Out to prove they can hack it in the rugged outdoors, the girls aim to demonstrate their own method of camping – the Lodge Way! However, feeling slighted by their lack of invitation, Cheryl and Ginger scheme to put a kink in the girls' plans... And in "Thinking Positive", Betty may not lead the luxurious life-style that Veronica enjoys to reel Archie in but is there more than glitz and glamour to earn Archie's attention? And that's not all as Veronica offers to participate in Betty's pirate themed fundraiser but Veronica may be at risk of having more than her loot stolen in "Festive Time!"

  • I think when I was a 15-year-old, I wouldn't have been able to resist that cover.
  • You know what's wild?  A couple years ago, I thumbed thru a few ARCHIEs I somehow had in my collection.  The writing was awful.  This new stuff is MUCH better!  Go figure.
  • I agree -- I think the writing took a dip, but is now approaching the level it had in the 1960s and '70s. But I sure miss Dan DeCarlo!
  • ...Myself , Stan Goldberg was traditionally my #1 , and the fact that the company let him go , well...:-( .

It apparently happened under the most recent ownership regime at Archie , " Goldwater 3.50 " , which I only found out about today !!!!!!!!!!!

Is what I'm about to say true ?

Apparently , the 40-50-somethingish 3d male Goldwater who took Archie over a couple years back died unexpectedly and quickly , because of a sudden cancer ( Of course , I'm sorry . ) and his wife , a former schoolteacher who does not use the name Goldwater professionally , took over the reins ( Legally inheriting it ??? ) , nd some developments of recent times - including Stan's departure ( FRICKEN FRACKEN RIZZEN RATTEN - Ahemph . :-) ) and the " Comic Book Fairs " ( sounds good ) they've promoted of late , are products of her time at the tiller/whee/Ship of Riverdale  .

Between Archiefans , comics fan world things such as this , and the NY Times' obits/other MSM , it appears I missed this somehow...
