I say "recent" but I am going to discuss comics from as far back as 2007.
Today's Topic: "How to reconcile Mission's End with Year Five."
MISSION'S END #1: First, start with Star Trek: Mission's End #1, which is set during the early days of Kirk's command, even before "Where No Man Has Gone Before." It serves as an introduction to #2-5 of the series.
STAR TREK: YEAR FOUR: This is actually two mini-series: the original (six issues written by David Tischman) and "Enterprise Experiment" (five issues written by D.C, Fontana herself).
STAR TREK: YEAR FIVE: 25 issues (and one special) written (mainly) by Jackson Lanzing. The special bridges the gap between the end of the five-year mission and the end of the movie era.
CAPTAIN'S LOG: HARRIMAN: This one-shot tells of the loss of Captain Kirk during the ill-fated launch of the Enterprise-B strictly from a 23rd century POV.
SPOCK REFLECTIONS: This four-issue mini-series tells the story of Spock from the 23rd century (Enterprise-B, Captain Harriman) to the 24th (Enterprise-D, Captain Picard).
COUNTDOWN: This "official" prequel to the 2009 reboot movie was touted as being canon... and it was, I suppose, until the TV series Picard came along and contradicted it. I'll have (much) more to say about Countdown when I get around to discussing Picard.
"LEGACY OF SPOCK" (#55-58): These four issues of the post-reboot Star Trek series detail Spock's life in the "Kelvin" universe (a.k.a. the "Abrams-verse").
"CONNECTION" (#59-60): This two-parter is a crossover between TOS universe and the reboot universe.
MISSION'S END #2-5: Because "Connection" featured Shatner-Kirk's Enterprise during its original five-year mission and because the timeline has now changed enough to allow the contradiction from the events of Star Trek: Year Five, the remaining issues of Mission's End can now "bookend" this arc as originally intended.
Obviously, this arc can be embellished as much as one desires based on the size of the box one is trying to fill. For example, DC's entire (second) series of movie-era adventures can be sandwiched between Star Trek: Year Five and Captain's Log: Harriman, and IDW's post-reboot series fits between Countdown and "Legacy of Spock."
