So It's Come To This.....

At work, we received a case of Disney Bath Mitts (not recommended for children under three) and the characters were Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Lightning McQueen from Cars and......the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN!!!!

Now I know and accept a lot of odd Marvel merchandise and Spidey will get the brunt of that. I accept Super Hero Squad as a way of making the Marvel heroes accessible to younger children. I get it. Truly.

But being packaged with established Disney icons seems....not right to me. It's a step closer to Disney's Marvel Babies or The Hulk On Ice. It may, and I stress may ultimately affect the contents and themes of the comics themselves. Are we seeing the beginning of the Disney-ication of the Marvel Universe?

  • The Hulk on Ice would be awesome. Philip, you are a genius.

  • Wait, when's Marvel Babies coming on?

Especially the "Follow the Leader" dance.

  • DISNEY'S MARVEL BABIES--a proposal

Aunt May must take care of seven precocious toddler super-heroes: Spidey-Boy, L'il Hulky, Iron Tot, Missy Marvel, Thor-Child of Odin, Kit Panther and Wolvie-pup.

They live next door to the Toddler Torch and his older sister, Sue who's dating Reed and they hang out with Benjy.

Sometimes they have play-dates with the tots from Xavier's Pre-School For Gifted (Young) Children.

And then there's local Boy Scout, Cap Rogers.

But watch out for the Naughty Bunch: Normie, Abomi, Loki the Brat, Miss Amora, Babytooth, Pre-Klaw and Crimson Dyna-mite who are in the care of Ol' Mean Doc Doom!

  • My girls had a Spider-Man bath mitt and this was at least a couple of years prior to the Disney deal.  There have always been Spidey toys for very young kids.

  • I understand that, Doc. It's not the product that got my attention. It was the packaging with the Disney characters that definitely got my Spider-Sense tingling!

  • Have you been in a Disney Store lately?  They have a Marvel section now.  You can buy Spidey and Captain America hats and clothes at the Magic Kingdom.  And the store in EPCOT Norway sells Mjolnir toys and Thor shirts.

    Oh my stars and garters.
