A story on The Beat blog recommended this story, which comes with the warning tag line "this story deals with childhood trauma and is intended for grown-ups." It's about a traumatic event, but also about the healing power of fantasy, superhero comics especially. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it's a moving bit of autobiography (Trippe spells out the real life basis for it in an afterward). Most of it is told in black and white with blue tones, but there's a marvelous, dramatic splash page in color near the end, which I won't spoil for those who decide to read it.

You can read it at http://www.tencentticker.com/somethingterrible/. The first few pages are online for free, and I gather the whole thing will be uploaded eventually. It only costs 99 cents to download the full 18 page comic. You get it in Adobe Acrobat and CBZ formats, so you should be able to read it on just about any device.
