Style question

With the upcoming changes to the DCnU, it seems to me that the "underwear-on-the-outside" tradition of costuming is all but gone.  Will there be any contemporary costumes that you can think of that still retain this look at either DC or Marvel?

  • But still the guys are covered head-to-toe while Wonder Woman looks like she's after tips.

And shouldn't Cyborg have more human parts than half his head?

  • Cyborg probably still does have more organic parts, but when you're wading into a fight that requires the rest of these guys, I think I'd armor up the soft parts too.   This, of course, begs the question as to why have part of his head exposed.

As for Wonder Woman, yeah, you're right.  I kind of liked the straps on the similar reboot costume of a few months ago.  At least they gave the impression they might keep her from popping out.

  • Why does Cyborg look less elegant than he did 30 years ago? He looks like a TRS-80 in an iPad world.
  • I blame anime.  The style there seems to be the more bulky and metallic robots/armor/cyborgs are , the better.

  • Bleah.  I don't think any of them are an improvement.
  • Somehow I don't think that Clark and Bruce can wear their costumes under their street-clothes anymore. Especially with those pointy cuffs Clark's sporting!
  • All the belts appear to be based on the Wally West Flash costume's belt.
  • Too true, the collars, belts, boots, and armor make it feel like they had one origin together like the Fantastic Four! Perhaps having one artist redesign all their major characters was a mistake! At least the Flash is more or less intact and GL has white gloves! Must the movies dictate the look of the comics?
  • In the Subway ad in the middle of The All New Batman: The Brave and the Bold #8, Green Lantern has WHITE BOOTS!

It's like they have all been taken over by a large super-hero conglomerate and now have to have the same look to them. The same pose, the same facial expressions, heck, they even all look the same -- Supes and Wondy could pass as twins."

Lookalike art has plagued mainstream comics for years now. I can no longer tell the artists apart, because almost all of them draw the same. Yes, all the characters look alike. Where once there was a DC house style and a Marvel house style (with plenty of room for individuality at each company), now there is a superhero house style that every company uses.

Maybe there are no artists in comics anymore. Maybe each company now has computers that produce cookie-cutter art. ;)
