As much of a flop as it may now be perceived as having been* , with the  PR build-up for MAN OF STEEL ,I would think that Warners' must have some videos of it back up front in stores to take advantage of it now , while there's no video for any LA Super-flick more recent.........

I just read to-day the Prestige Format $6.99 80 page movie adaptation from '06 , written by Marty Pesky Pasko , which was up in front of the stock in my recent last visit to my FCS in San Francisco before I returned home - for now - to Santa Cruz .

I saw it theatrically in the part 3-D version . Was that perhaps the last major studio feature film to be in the " old " 3D system , before AVATAR introduced the new one ???

Besides that PF straight adaptation , which I think I never read 'til to-day , I recall some other minis issued by DC , which were eventually collected in a full TPB...and a mass-market paperback novelization by Marv Wolfman , which I lost before finishing !!! :-(

A large plot point ( Oh ~~~ SPOILERS . ) was the " Why The World Doesn't Need A Superman " piece which Lois Lane had won the Pulitzer Prize for during Superman's abscence ( Of course , she could be seen given especially the movie's plot development to have had a...um " bun in the oven " in the manner !!!!!!!!!!! ) , at the end of which , she reversed herself on , writing a " Why The World Does Need A Superman " piece .

As with the Super-Kid plot development , the DCU of that New Earth , late-Mylar Age time had a semi-reflection of this...While I forget if that was ever referred to in Superman's continuity , late in the Mylar Super-subverse Cat Grant had written a " Why The World Doesn't Need A Supergirl " story in the Maid of Might's title .

  This is my question:

Was the supposed " Why The World Doesn't Need " story...Or the revisionist " Does Need A Supes " piece too  by Lois , which was quoted at some length in the printed fictional print manifestations of the SR storyline , ever published in its full length in any publication ?

For that matter , was Cat's anti-Kara piece ever published in a full form ???

  • Christopher was the name of Clark and Lois' late-Mylar age adopted Kryptonian son.

Kurt Busiek's last page or so of writing Superman concerned how Clark and Lois would never forsake him and that he was a special boy.  Of course, he faded out of the picture shortly after that.  I think Busiek was writing with pointed irony anyway.

I got a couple of the prequels to the movie.  One with Lex Luthor, at any rate.  They weren't that great, but like everyone else my anticipation of the movie meant that I gave them an easy pass.

As to Lois' article, I suppose you know that the title was based on a Bronze Age story called "Must there be a Superman?" or somesuch, where Superman stands accused by the Guardians of Oa of doing more harm than good.

Come to think of it, one of Busiek's last storylines turned on Superman being shown some future where his interference caused a terrible apocalypse to descend on the world.  Despite reading it twice, I'm vague on how that was resolved.  Not a good sign of clear punchy storytelling.

Lois' actual article referred to in the movie can be found here.  Apparently some fansite got a hold of it from one of the film crew, it was read out on a podcast, and transcribed here.  It looks fairly legit to me.

  • ...Thank you , Figs .

I remember that " Why..." story very well , I would not think of that Lois' piece as " based on it " , I guess that ( Maggin?? ) story was the first Super-story to introduce that concept and I remember that late-Mylar acopolace(Sic!) story too .
