It begins.

Next month, DC Comics will split in two. When "Absolute Power" comes to an end -- and we have a thread on that HERE -- something happens that creates, for lack of a better term, a new Earth-2. This new parallel universe will be published in DC's new "Absolute" line (not to be confused with their upscale reprints of the same name). Meanwhile, the "regular" universe is being described as having a, cough, rebirth of sorts, titled "All In." DC describes this as "a line-wide initiative combining an exciting, reimagined universe of DC’s Super Heroes and an ongoing line of core titles, featuring bold new directions for DC’s mainstay Super Heroes."

I am getting lots of info. Too much to just hang onto until October! It seems a shame not to share it. And then: Discussion! We bring to bear the Legion of Superfluous Heroes joint super-power of talking something to death! It will be awesome!

First, here's the information I have so far:

As Absolute Power ends (issue #4 on sale Oct. 2), DC’s All In initiative begins with a single-issue mega-event, presented as a startling, symmetrical flipbook!

Following the events of DC’s blockbuster storyline Absolute Power, the heroes of the core DC Universe have fought against the deep divisions in the world around them to usher in a new era of unity. And it’s just in time, too—because Darkseid has returned. Superman must gather every hero on Earth to hold the line against a very different version of the Lord of Apokolips, as they raise our cosmic defenses and prepare for war…and when the first blows land, the shock waves will ripple into every series in the DCU and shake the nature of their reality to its core!

But little do they know…the greater threat is still to come. For there is another Earth: the Absolute Universe. Here, DC’s biggest icons are coming of age with fewer advantages and facing greater opposition than ever before…while miraculously retaining the immutable heroism that has inspired fans for decades. But can they really protect the light that shines inside them when the world in which they live is hurtling toward a terrible destiny?

Co-written by Scott Snyder (Absolute Batman) and Joshua Williamson (Superman), the flipbook DC All In Special #1 features art by Wonder Woman artist Daniel Sampere when read in one direction and Deadly Class co-creator and series artist Wes Craig when read in the other direction. The 64-page one-shot features a main cover by Sampere, with variant covers by Rafa Sandoval, Wes Craig, and John Giang.

“The creation of the Absolute Universe is how I always imagined coming back to DC, and DC All In will be a great jumping-on point for new readers as well as lapsed fans to discover new stories to love and the chance to explore the new directions in store for DC’s core series lineup,” says Snyder.

    • Kong Kenan is the Super-Man of China.

I ordered Action from Westfield, which should be here soon. I've got Absolute Batman, and should read it even sooner.

    • Looks like we have restored some semblance of late stage pre-Crisis continuity, particularly for Kandor - down to the words "Moliom" and "Moliomo" for the council and its members.  But at the same time, Superman states that the Phantom Zone's nature has been changing.

  • ACTION COMICS #1070: This is the second chapter of the initial "All In" (for now) weekly launch. I'll stay in for the entire first storyline, but it's got to get better if I'm going to continue reading beyond that point. Part of the problem is that I read it after this week's Wonder Woman, Jenny Sparks, Epitaphs from the Abyss and Mark Waid's own Batman & Robin: Year One. the Supergirl back-up does nothing for me; Tom King's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a hard act to follow. Speaking of Tom King...

    WONDER WOMAN #14

"I know it's not a popular opinion around here, but I liked the New 52 origin for Wonder Woman. For one thing, it renoved the ick factor that she is, in fact, a golem."

"But thematically, I prefer the clay origin."

    Not to spoil anything, but...

No, no, no... I won't say anything at this juncture.

In their gratitude, the pair took a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the magnificent work of series colorist Frank Martin and his contribution to this reimagined version of the Dark Knight. The series’ successful launch was underscored by the reveal of the cover for Absolute Batman Noir Edition #1, in participating comic book shops on November 13.

And of course, Sherman’s panel appearance wouldn’t be complete until they talked about the decision to give Diana a giant “buster” sword and a flaming Pegasus.

Aaron also spoke about other familiar Superman characters and hinted at how they could be different for this series compared to their All In counterparts, and he discussed what’s impressed him about Sandoval’s innovative design for the costume. Aaron also spoke about Superman as a symbol of hope, and whether this version of Superman can be the same in a world where hope may be in short supply.

  • ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #1: "Without the island paradise... without the sisterhood that shaped her... without a mission of peace... what's left the Absolute Amazon?" [SPOILERS] That's the tagline DC used to promote the new series, and I've got to admit I was intrigued. How can they remove all that and have her still be Wonder Woman? What they said is true, but I misinterpreted what they meant. But this is Diana, she is an Amazon and she is from Themescira. Except this version was taken from her home as a baby by Zeus as punishment for the Amazons' crimes against the Gods. A less misleading tagline for this series might have been: "What if Princess Diana had been taken by Apollo as a baby and given to Circe to be raised on the Isle of Hell?" [END SPOILER]

Speaking of Wonder woman spoilers, here's the one from last week...

"I liked the New 52 origin for Wonder Woman. For one thing, it renoved the ick factor that she is, in fact, a golem."

"But thematically, I prefer the clay origin."

"Not to spoil anything, but... No, no, no... I won't say anything at this juncture."

Here is what I was going to say last week: "htob uoy esaelp yam rewsna ehT".

You may not think that's much of a spoiler, but it kind of is.

  • SUPERMAN #19: This is the first issue of the new "All In" direction. It features the Time Trapper and Doomsday (and Superwoman... Lois Lane). Over the years, the Time Trapper has had many identities, from Cosmic Boy to Barbara Gordon to the Superboy of Earth Prime. Wait'll you see who it is this time.

ACTION COMICS #1072: The main feature is getting better, but the back-up is still going nowhere (IMO).

The Superman of Superman has memories of the pre-Flashpoint universe, and the Superman of Action has memories of the pre-Crisis universe, so I'm not sure exactly what the status quo is supposed to be these days.

We had four issues of the "All In" Superman/Action so far, but the "Absolute" Superman has yet to drop.
