I recently bought the first issue of Evan Dorkin's THE ELTINGVILLE CLUB , from Dark Horse (Actually , judging from the next-issue promo in the issue , and what I saw when I looked up its listing at DH's site this nite ~ It seems like #2 has been delayed !) , after seeing it plugged here .
It's a return to his fandom-parodying " geek/fanboy " characters who were introduced?? in his 00s?? DORK anthology title for Slave Labor .
I had recently found a couple bargain-bin back issues of DORK , and enjoyed them there ~ in a nostalgic manner . Actually , I was sort of under the imprssion that the characters had been finished off before , in a later issue of DORK .
TEC was also the subject of a one-shot Cartoon Network show (unsold pilot) which I haven't seen .
I will say this up front , what I've read yet seems a bit of an ananchronism*(Sp??))/throwback from the Nineties .
*Is " ananchronism " always stuff from the future showing up inn the past , not the past showing up years later on ?

...TEC is Dorkin's spoof of fandom culture , centered around four teenage?? (this will become an issue) males , in the sorta nowhere town of Eltingville (which I think is a neighborhood/" sub-town " in the Staten Island borough of New York City , but I guess he's imagining it's a (larger?? ~ I haven't tried Wikipedia yet to-day .) town ~ I think in contemporary times Staten Islanders have a tendency to diffentiate themselves strongly from " the city " .
TEC members are fanboys/nerds all the way , interested in the sort of " naughty "/" male's " fan stuff such as " limited edition nude covers ", X-rated Italian horror , and more...Not so much the image of what is to be found in comics shops that pages such as this tend to promote these days !!!!!!!!! (And , at least the verbal sparring/references that go with this make the TEC tend towards " 18+ Only " in comics shops , or at least " Mature Readers "...Though , ha ha , the characters are anything BUT " mature " !!!!!!!!!!! Hee hee hee hee...
And , speaking of comics shops...
