• I am down with a Conan-Pirate Story
  • As well as a Robert E. Howard anthology
  • 6 Dark Horse comics for me this month. That is the most in a long, long time.
  • I hate that the Detective Comics & Batman annuals are a crossover with each other
  • I like that they are still doing the Holiday special
  • I am stoked that Eduardo Risso is doing an issue of Jonah Hex
  • I guess those DC Comics Presents books are doing well 7 more this time. Plus the Vertigo version of them: Vertigo Resurrected.
  • A Planetary one-shot? That's a bit surprising
  • Only 1 Image comic for me
  • I love that Spidey costume for ASM #560 it lends itself to so many cool interpretations.
  • Black Panther taking over Daredevil makes me a bit leery, especially with vampires involved.
  • Ah a new Heroes for Hire series! I didn't realize it was that time of the year. With this cast I would have picked it up at $2.99, but passed as is.
  • Seeing these new What if...? one-shots, and it just doesn't mean anything to me any more. I used to love them.
  • Another Wolverine on-going? Alright.
  • No PunisherMax this month, I wonder if it has been canceled.
  • Comics with Thor in them, are affiliated with Thor (like Warriors Three) - 17!
  • For the record, Iron Man -12. Wolverine - only 7. (unless I missed some of course)
  • A Mouse Guard RPG? Cool.
  • I am actually ordering a book from Aspen Comics.
  • I also wonder if the market can handle all of the different comic strip collections. It seems like everything is being collected (brought on by seeing the Roy Rogers strip collection).
  • I am interested in the new Next Men comic, but not at $3.99.

  • What month is this?

Brian Hibbs, with much comicshop experience, thinks that a month where Thor fans are expected to buy 17 comics is madness. Presumably, Marvel know better...

Storywise I think it would have been better to keep him in small doses - something Marvel had realised before, and now seem to have forgotten again.

I know! They can build towards I big Ragnorak finale again! Those never get old...
  • A big push for next year's movie? That's my best guess.
  • I can't buy all those Thors, plus the Batmans, Iron Mans and Wolverines. They are putting out a Thor/Iron Man mini before Avengers Prime is even finished! There will be an overload and people will be burnt out on the character before the movie comes out! That said, I will still buy Warriors Three,, regardless!

That is my guess as well. It just seems like too many, too soon. We are still what 8-9 months out? It seems like it would be something you would ramp up to. Unless they are ramping up and we have 50 by the time the movie comes out.

Figs, this is for comics coming out in December.
  • It's all building May, 2011 inventory for the stores (brick and digital) when the Thor movie hits. You need a bunch of story parts ready to go immediately at that time for the iPhone downloads. That's where the kid is going to read a Thor story after coming out of the theater.

I actually like having a bunch of different takes on a character by very different creative teams. It allows me to read about Thor or Batman by the writers and artists I like. Before, if a creative team I didn't like came on a book, I'd just drop it until a team I liked came back on. Now, I'll buy Roger Langridge's Thor and Grant Morrison's Batman and happily ignore the rest.
  • Well the brick and mortar stores already have nearly 50 years of comics to choose from. How many stores got stuck with a bunch of Iron Man trade overstocks after the last movie? Apparently a lot, because I see a ton of them at cons, and greatly discounted at stores..

As to the digital comics, when faced with too many choices causes a lot of consumers opt to not choose anything. When Skateboard Man looks at his iPhone and is inundated with 30 different series to choose from, how will they know what to pick? Of course he will probably just download a torrent, and get them all.
  • Wolverine (Logan) only has one ongoing title at the moment, Wolverine.

Of course, he is featured in X-Men (where he's currently a vampire), Avengers (traveling through time), New Avengers (the living embodiment of all of the New Avengers), Uncanny X-men, Uncanny X-Force, Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis...

The Mouse Guard RPG has been available as a hardcover for a couple of years now, and was one of the reasons why the second series had a long gap between issues. The new boxed set will have everything form that HC plus a bunch of new material.

Marvel would like to apologize for the glut of Thor titles, but publishing characters featured in a blockbuster movie means never having to say you're Thorry.

I just can't take marvel anymore. A cynical wasteland of despair and dishonor where every character is only a few pages away from doing something vile. These days I care for and root for marvel villains.

I'm surprised you have any metal left on that axe.

I didn't realize a Mouse Guard RPG had already come out.  Thanks for the info. As someone who recently started gaming again after about a decade or so off I have experienced sticker shock at their prices now.  I would still like to take a peek at it someday, as I am sure it has a lot more history on the world and such.

Dags, how do comics tied into an upcoming movie sell at your store if I might ask?

  • Marvel doesn't really care what the weekly comics reader buys from its barrage of Thor comics. It's putting out a bunch now so it can have the TPB collections in bookstores when the movie arrives. The monthly sales are just gravy and early cash flow.

Anyone buying and reading these chopped-up TPBs as monthly chapters is not reading them in the form they are intended. The madness is that some fans will feel that they HAVE to buy all the comics to keep their Thor runs intact. Marvel loves that madness.

It's sad, but the weekly comics buyer is not really Marvel's customer for the most part any more.
