Here's a line for DC's TRINITY OF SIN: THE PHANTOM STRANGER title .

And with apparently only one issue left !

Well , I've been buying it ~ Going from comic shp to comic shop , and having to special-order it , as they were not actually stocking it...

  " DC's answer to Dr. Strange " , indeed ??????????? :-) Oh Well :-) .

  • Maybe because they both have a tendency to get canceled?

  • ...Yes , precisely . Two supernatural heroes , with " flowing " outfits...

I once saw the argument that the PS was rooted originally in DC's desire to have a company-owned version of the Shadow...

  • I never needed an explanation for the Phantom Stranger. The Mysterious Host meme goes back at least as far as radio, and there are a jillion of them. PS started out that way, although he eventually became a player in his own stories instead of just the intro guy.

  • ...I think the 50s version ~ who proved supernatuiral things to be non-existent , as with much (though not all) DC " horror " material of that period ~ took an active role in his stories .

  • I've long believed that the 50s version, who never seemed to find a haunting that wasn't a hoax, and who openly used things like flash powder for effects, was an Earth-2 version of Earth-1's genuinely supernatural Stranger.  On further thought, I thought it might be fun if the Earth-2 Stranger was really Dr. Occult (who also had no real powers in most of  his stories, and who tended to find science fictional, if not scientific explanations for the various bogies that he met), having gotten more theatrical as he aged.
