We're at the conclusion of the Trinity War ... and the onset of Forever Evil. Here's a good place to talk about what's been revealed, including:

Why Superman killed Dr. Light!

The identity of the Outsider!

The identity of the traitor in one of the leagues!

The villains who show up at the end!

The fate of Cyborg!

The incorruptibility of John Constantine?

and more!

While the buildup was slow as molasses, the six issues of this crossover have flown by! What did you think of how it all worked out? Any moments that really impressed or disappointed you? Have at!

Spoilers, of course!!

  • I liked it. When there is a definite limit to the issues I don't mind a slow reveal (the current Wonder Woman story may go into the next century as far as I can tell) and the identity of the traitor was a surprise to me. First thought that occurred to me today as I read the last issue: Poor Pandora was cursed by some of the most idiotic gods in history.

  • She sure was!

  • A few more thoughts on this last issue:

I absolutely loved the page with John Constantine holding Pandora's Box, with all the Justice Leagues chasing after him. I wish there were more to it; frankly, I'd have been happy to have a whole issue of Constantine avoiding capture over a more prolonged period of time. I'm generally prefer Vertigo-Constantineto DCU-Constantine, but scenes like this make a strong argument that the character really enriches the universe. (Though the "I'm already corrupt" line was too pat, I thought -- unless one takes into account Nergal's blood in his veins, if that's still canon.)

Rhonda Pineda! I remember when she debuted, people seemed happy to have another racially diverse heroine in the Justice League, but complained a bit that the Atom wasn't broke -- we already had Ryan Choi! Well, now we know -- she's not adding diversity to the heroes, she's adding it to the villains. (And a second female, at last, to the Injustice League!) And until it was revealed she was an Earth-3 counterpart, I never noticed her initials are the same as Ray Palmer's! Viva Atomica, baby!

And Cyborg! I'm not 100 percent sure what happened there. I know his Apocalyptan technology took over his body -- or rather, a computer virus called The Grid took over his tech, and then rejected the flesh parts of his body -- but I'm not entirely clear where Vic is. I think he's being sustained by GL for the moment, until a more permanent solution can be found. I'm very, very interested in seeing where this story winds up for Vic.

Oh, and a shrinking woman enters someone's brain and winds up killing Dr. Light. I don't know if that's some sort of sideways commentary on Identity Crisis, but there's certainly some resonance there.

  • The Atomica thing did catch me off guard, she's been playing it very innocent and conflicted up to now. I'm going to be interested to see how Waller feels when she realizes that the very thing she feared the most, the heroes going bad, has sort of happened and she was manipulated into helping it happen.

  • It just occurred to me -- if Atomica was a double-agent for the JLA, wouldn't J'onn have scanned her brain? Or maybe not; I suspect he butted heads with Waller about how telepathically intrusive he'd be.

  • She might have been shielded thanks to the Outsider. She played her part very well anyway.

  • She certainly did. I liked her before, but now, as a villain -- "Oh, Vic, honey? It's you." -- I'm in a deep character crush.

  • One thing to like about the CS, they are villains and they enjoy being villains.

  • Yeah, there's something to be said for loving your work! They're definitely of the MWAH-hah-ha! variety! Mustache-twirlers, all!

  • Also they seem more dangerous now, I mentioned this about Superwoman -though I should have said sexy I guess because in the splash page her pose definitely more 'I'm beautiful and I'm going to enjoy hurting you' than the others. Maybe it's just me, but I sense this is a more ruthless and focused group than ever before, certainly more than they were when they were originally introduced.
