Two "Kirby" Comics

CAPTAIN VICTORY & THE GALACTIC RANGERS: Writer Joe Casey is taking a somewhat different approach to this title than he did toward the Kirby-ish Godland. Frankly, the art is a bit too “experimental” for my taste, but I’ll give it another issue or two.

NIGHTWORLD: This has a very Kirby feel to it in both story and art. (It’s a kind of horror comic, somewhat in line with The Demon.) If only Captain Victory had the art of Nightworld.

  • As I said in a Comics Guide at some point, I'm not a fan of Kirby pastiches. Without the man's manic imagination behind it, it's just poor drawing to me.

  • Jeff, I loved the artwork on Captain Victory, but I found the writing to be a bit rambly and trippy, and not in the best of ways. I believe this art team is amongst the same that drew Joe Casey's Catalyst Comix from Dark Horse, which had similar highs and lows.

  • You Jeffs are making me curious about this book.
