Villains Month

I haven't read a whole lot of the Villains Month titles, but I was wondering which ones people would recommend? Which ones disappointed you?

For me, my favorite so far was probably The Riddler. The Reverse Flash one was also pretty good, and essential to the ongoing Flash storyline. (Grodd and Rogues seem more essential to the Forever Evil crossover, though the Rogues one, in particular, was good. Grodd, on the other hand, mostly irritated me with a needless shock-value decapitation.)

Deadshot and Harley Quinn were okay, but neither wowed me on its own terms. (Though I liked Neil Googe's Harley!) Dial E had very little to offer beyond the different art styles and the parade of characters that varied from really neat to totally incomprehensible. Storywise, it was a mess.)

The Joker didn't do much for me, either, to be honest. I can't say Darkseid made a big impression on me, either, but maybe I just don't like that guy getting pinned down with an origin.

The event's gotten a lot of discussion, but what are your thoughts on the books themselves?

  • Frankly I'm disapointed. I'm curious to see how the story progresses and DC has stopped it to give me a lot of supervillain origin stories. Sure I can be curious as to how Eclipso got his latest body and how Minerva turned into Cheetah, but I'm more curious to find out how the CSA managed to beat 2 Justice League teams.

  • Yeah, for the event as a whole, me too. Like last year's zero month, this month largely feels like stalling.

BTW, for a great overview of the individual issues, check out Cap's EPIC post in the This Week's Comics thread!
