Today, fans can check out the first issue cover along with a glimpse at the Avengers’ opening battle with the vampire nation’s forces. Plus, get new insights into the event in an exclusive interview with Jed MacKay!
The skies have gone dark, the sun hiding its face from the carnage to come. The children of the night, the vampires, have risen from the dark and hidden places of the world as one to drown the Marvel Universe in blood. Earth’s final night has fallen – can even the heroes of this doomed world stem the tide of blood that is to come? Join the Avengers, Blade, Bloodline, Spider-Man, Hunter’s Moon, Tigra, Doctor Strange and Clea as the dance of death begins.
“I think vampires are a very fun part of the Marvel Universe,” MacKay told Marvel.com. “You can enjoy them on a surface level as adding a little spookiness to a book, or you can get as deep as you like into the long-running Marvel history of vampires, which is as elaborate as any other part of it (and the fact that Dracula is there is a source of endless delight)! BLOOD HUNT is just the latest chapter in the long-running vampire mythos of Marvel vampires—and they're stepping out of the darkness in a big way.”
“Much like Civil War and Secret Invasion, BLOOD HUNT is a story that has been naturally building across Marvel's comics over the last few years (and some even older stories), and it all comes to a head this May as Jed connects all the dots,” Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski said. “As the series unfolds, readers will be able to uncover clues and go back and put the pieces together to see just how high the stakes are for our beloved characters. Pun intended.”
Today, fans can check out the first issue cover, along with a glimpse at the Avengers' opening battle with the vampire nation's forces. Plus, get new insights into the event in an exclusive interview with Jed MacKay below!
MARVEL.COM: How long have you been planning and building towards BLOOD HUNT?
JED MACKAY: It's been a while...I think Tom [Brevoort] emailed me around the end of March to float the idea of a vampire-centered event, as I was working on AVENGERS, DOCTOR STRANGE, and MOON KNIGHT, all of whom would be pretty well situated to tell a story about the vampire apocalypse!
MARVEL.COM: What draws you to vampires, out of all the terrors that lurk in the Marvel Universe?
JED MACKAY: I think vampires are a very fun part of the Marvel Universe. You can enjoy them on a surface level as adding a little spookiness to a book, or you can get as deep as you like into the long-running Marvel history of vampires, which is as elaborate as any other part of it (and the fact that Dracula is there is a source of endless delight)! BLOOD HUNT is just the latest chapter in the long-running vampire mythos of Marvel vampires—and they're stepping out of the darkness in a big way.
MARVEL.COM: Over the past year or so, Dracula founded his very own vampire nation in Chernobyl. How does that play into what's to come in BLOOD HUNT?
JED MACKAY: Well, that remains to be seen! Suffice to say, there's no way that something like BLOOD HUNT could kick off without Dracula being involved in some way—and you'll have to wait until FREE COMIC BOOK DAY: BLOOD HUNT to find out how!
MARVEL.COM: Who are some of the key players we'll see involved in the main BLOOD HUNT title? How did you arrive at these characters?
JED MACKAY: Well, as I'm writing AVENGERS, DOCTOR STRANGE, and VENGEANCE OF THE MOON KNIGHT, we'll be centering all of those characters in this story, as well as some others: Blade, Bloodline, Dracula, and Spider-Man, to name a few.
Some of it was common sense. You're not going to do a vampire event without Blade or Dracula, and others, like Spider-Man, were characters that came up in discussions as we went along putting this event together.
MARVEL.COM: Where there are vampires, you'll find the Daywalker. What intrigued you the most about working with Blade?
JED MACKAY: I think that there's something interesting in the idea that Blade can never win. He's out there every night, going after the vampires, and even when he gets a big win, it never seems to last long. But that doesn't stop him, and he doesn't age, so he'll just keep doing what he does until it kills him. There's a drive to Blade that sets him apart.
MARVEL.COM: Every good event needs a villain! Without giving too much away, what can you tell us about the mastermind behind the events of BLOOD HUNT?
JED MACKAY: Well, someone has organized this global vampire uprising, and even worse, has assembled a cadre of horrific super-vampires known as the Bloodcoven to do their bidding! As to who this mastermind might be, that will be revealed in time.
MARVEL.COM: Tell me a little about working with Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia. What have they brought to the book so far?
JED MACKAY: Pepe and Marte have made magic, as usual. While I have yet to see Marte's colors, the work Pepe has been turning in has been just astounding, allowing him to turn his extraordinary skills in a much more grotesque direction than we usually see in his Marvel work. From character designs to layouts to pages, everything sings.
MARVEL.COM: What are you most excited for readers to see?
JED MACKAY: I think we've got a few surprises up our sleeves that I'm looking forward to people seeing—and, of course, the utterly lovely artwork of the series!
MARVEL.COM: With the whole world shrouded in darkness, the stakes of BLOOD HUNT are massive. What kind of mark will this event leave on the Marvel Universe?
JED MACKAY: BLOOD HUNT is an event, which is something world-shaking and important. But perhaps more important is what the world looks like after it's been shaken about...
MARVEL.COM: What should eagle-eyed fans be looking for in the lead up to BLOOD HUNT?
JED MACKAY: Keep an eye on the shadows!

EXPERIENCE BLOOD HUNT IN ALL ITS GORIEST GLORY WITH SPECIAL RED BAND EDITIONS
Launching in May, BLOOD HUNT is Marvel’s upcoming crossover event that sees vampires stage their bloodiest takeover of the Marvel Universe yet. WHO WILL BITE IT?
Extended and graphic Red Band editions will be available for Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz’s main BLOOD HUNT comic series.
New York, NY— January 22, 2024 — The bloodiest event in Marvel Comics history will be even BLOODIER than you imagined! BLOOD HUNT, the upcoming event series by Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz, will be available expanded and unexpurgated in special RED BAND EDITIONS. Labeled with a Parental Advisory and polybagged to keep those weak of heart from experiencing its intensity, the RED BAND EDITIONS will contain additional pages and more graphic art too explicit for the regular edition. BLOOD HUNT will mark the first time that a different edition of the same Marvel comic book is produced for more mature readers, fitting for this blood-soaked saga where vampires will viciously sink their teeth into your favorite heroes!
BLOOD HUNT will unfold across the main five-issue limited series, tie-in issues, and spinoff limited series. Fans have witnessed the thrilling buildup in various titles the past few years, and now it’s time for the vampires of the Marvel Universe to emerge from the shadows and plunge the world into endless darkness. As the streets run red with blood, maestro of mayhem Pepe Larraz will depict the full terror of the vampire’s savagery, offering new vistas of carnage with these unique RED BAND EDITIONS.
The skies have gone dark, and the sun is hiding its face from the carnage to come. The children of the night, the vampires, have risen from the dark and hidden places of the world as one to drown the Marvel Universe in blood. Earth’s final night has fallen — can even the heroes of this doomed world stem the tide of blood that is to come? Join the Avengers, Blade, Bloodline, Spider-Man, Hunter’s Moon, Tigra, Doctor Strange and Clea as the dance of death begins.
“The most appealing part of drawing BLOOD HUNT, apart from the chance to work with Jed for the first time (who I kept hearing the best of things from all my colleagues and fans), was the chance to go full TERROR mode in a vampire story,” Larraz shared. “The Red Band pages are really interesting to me. They allow me to convey the dark, violent, bloody tone of this particular story, and flex new muscles that I don't usually get to use in a superhero comic. And, I'm not going to lie, they're so fun!”

'BLACK PANTHER: BLOOD HUNT' TRANSFORMS T'CHALLA INTO A VAMPIRE
This May, Black Panther headlines his own 'Blood Hunt' tie-in series from writer Cheryl Lynn Eaton and artist Farid Karami.
New York, NY—February 12, 2024—When BLOOD HUNT kicks off this May, no place in the Marvel Universe will be safe from the vampire’s invasion—not even the proud nation of Wakanda!
Spinning directly out of the startling developments of Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz’s BLOOD HUNT comes BLACK PANTHER: BLOOD HUNT, a three-issue event tie-in series written by Cheryl Lynn Eaton (MARVEL'S VOICES) and drawn by Farid Karami (VENOM: LETHAL PROTECTOR).
BLACK PANTHER: BLOOD HUNT sees the recently exiled T’Challa finally returning to Wakanda’s capital city. Only he now serves a different nation entirely: the vampire nation! One of the vampire’s first—but certainly not last—victims, T’Challa finds himself caught in a soul-crushing struggle between protecting his people from his new brothers and satisfying his new overpowering thirst for blood.
Threatening his legacy as king as well as his deep connection with the Panther God, T’Challa reluctantly embarks on a quest from the vampire overlord to find an ancient power. In the process, he’ll unearth long-buried secrets about Wakanda’s own secret history with creatures of the night as Eaton and Karami introduce new blood-sucking villains inspired by real African legend and mythology.
"Long live the king! Literally! While T'Challa has always been the height of human excellence, steering such a legendary character as he navigates a supernatural battlefield populated with gods and monsters—all while adapting to a form and newfound powers unfamiliar to him—has been a treat," Eaton said. "T'Challa’s royal status is not just Wakandan in nature, but vampiric as well. And I can’t wait to explore both of those bloodlines. No pun intended!"
"Once I read the script, I was delightfully surprised about where the story was going and how cool the tone and atmosphere were," Karami added. "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series was my introduction to most of Marvel's super heroes, and Black Panther was my favorite character there. The chance to draw T'Challa as a vampire battling other vampires and some African mythological demons in such an epic yet dark tale has been a dream come true."

'MIDNIGHT SONS: BLOOD HUNT' REUNITES MARVEL'S ORIGINAL GROUP OF SUPERNATURAL HEROES
This May, the Midnight Sons return in a 'Blood Hunt' tie-in series from writer Bryan Hill and artist Germán Peralta.
When the eternal night falls and vampires run rampant across the globe, the Marvel Universe’s last line of defense against the supernatural band together in MIDNIGHT SONS: BLOOD HUNT!
Written by current BLADE scribe Bryan Hill and drawn by Germán Peralta (LOKI), the three-issue tie-in series will spin directly out of the shocking events of BLOOD HUNT #1. Starring Blade, Johhny Blaze, Danny Ketch, Victoria Montesi, and more, this iconic team’s critical mission will involve more than just slaughtering through the vampire invasion—they’ll also be forced to tragically spill the blood of one of their own!
The return of the Midnight Sons! What do you get when you cross two Ghost Riders, a daywalker, their supernatural-hunting friends, and a horde of vampires swarming the Earth? A whole lot of fangs, fire and penance… Don’t miss the original Midnight Sons reunite to deal with the shocking threat unleashed in BLOOD HUNT!
"FINALLY, the world realizes I'm a 'horror guy' and I'm grateful," Hill said. "Working with Blade has been a blast, and what I'm doing with MIDNIGHT SONS is maybe even more ferocious than that. This event is really exciting, the hype is real, and what I have planned for this will hopefully satisfy fans of action... and terror."
"I’m really excited to be part of this crossover, especially because I love the mix between super heroes and horror—the possibilities are infinite," Peralta shared. "In this particular case, I have the chance to draw the coolest Marvel characters, it's one of the highlights of this project—Blade, Ghost Rider, and of course, a lot more that I can't mention! It's always a pleasure to be in front of a new challenge when you’re free to play using inks and different kinds of textures to create some dark environments and characters. I hope the readers enjoy this as much as I do."

When the undead rise and the eternal night falls in Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz’s BLOOD HUNT, Wolverine will confront them claws first in WOLVERINE: BLOOD HUNT.
The four-issue series will mark the Marvel Comics debut of writer Tom Waltz, known for his acclaimed work on the blockbuster hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. Joining this rising star will be artist Juan José Ryp, who’s already delivered a beserker’s rage of Wolverine action in the character’s current solo series.
In addition to spinning directly out of BLOOD HUNT, Wolverine’s blood-soaked battles will also conclude Logan’s private war against the vampire nation, a storyline that’s been heating up over the last few years in the pages of Benjamin Percy’s epic WOLVERINE run.
Logan fights back the darkness! Wolverine’s the best there is at what he does—and today, fighting vampires is going to have to top that list! As the sky darkens across the globe and vampires reign, what hidden plot puts Logan directly in their crosshairs? Hint: It’s like nothing you’ve seen in BLOOD HUNT yet! Be there as the plot (and blood!) thickens when a secret vampire sect enacts a startling strategy that’ll take Logan—and the world—to the brink! Guest-starring some surprise characters from Wolverine’s past and the return of Louise of the Nightguard!
"I've spent much of my career writing about iconic mutants, so having my Marvel debut be a chance to put 'the best there is' through a vampiric bloodstorm in WOLVERINE: BLOOD HUNT is an absolute thrill of a lifetime," Waltz shared. "It’s made even better by getting to do it alongside the amazingly talented Juan José Ryp, top-notch colorist GURU-eFX, and stellar editors Mark Basso and Drew Baumgartner! Blood, bullets, claws, and fangs—nothing gets held back in our four-issue gauntlet of gore!"
"WOLVERINE: BLOOD HUNT… Wow. My favorite Marvel character against VAMPIRES!!! And who doesn't like vampires? (Unless you prefer werewolves). This is surely the most dynamic, bloody, and daring series I have been able to draw. I hope seeing a lot of blood doesn't scare you off!" Ryp teased.

THE BLOODCOVEN MAKE THEIR DEADLY DEBUT IN BLOOD HUNT #1!
Meet the terrifying new team of villains making their first appearance in Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz’s BLOOD HUNT #1, on sale this May.
New York, NY— March 4, 2024 — Who will bite it? Over the last few weeks, fans have discovered the full scope of BLOOD HUNT, the upcoming Marvel Comics crossover event launching this May. Centered around a main event series by writer Jed MacKay and artist Pepe Larraz, BLOOD HUNT will see a cursed eternal night wash over Earth, allowing vampires, who have lurked in the shadows since the earliest days of the Marvel Universe, emerge to satisfy their blood lust like never before! Recent tie-in announcements have revealed which heroes will play pivotal roles in this latest Marvel epic, but the key villains of BLOOD HUNT have been shrouded in darkness—until now! Meet the BLOODCOVEN!
The Bloodcoven are a mysterious and deadly vampire faction consisting of Megrim, Cruel, Unusual, the Damascene, Smoke Eater, and their leader, Bloodstorm One, a clone of Dracula created by Hydra. The group’s motives, powers and abilities will strike unfathomable fear into the hearts of your favorite heroes and their bloodlust is only matched by their extreme brutality and an undying commitment to a dark master…
"I knew going in that vampires weren't bad enough. If the children of the night were going up against the Avengers, let alone the other heroes of the world, bigger guns were required,” MacKay explained. “Hence the Bloodcoven—supervampires, fed on the blood of superhumans that follow different vampiric philosophies, subsisting not only on blood but pain, or magic, or thoughts, or even ghosts! I threw together a list of names and some thoughts about powers, but it was Pepe who really brought these characters to (un)life, creating an extremely gnarly set of predators!"
Larraz shed light on his design inspiration for each member of this shadowy faction:
Cruel
“This one was pretty straightforward, a character wrapped in razor wire by his own will is terrifying enough, so that is what I did. I added the cloud of wires at his feet and neck, always moving like some kind of metal gorgon.”
Smoke Eater
“The idea is that he inhales ghosts to acquire their strength in combat, so I made a physical representation of that. He becomes the unification of multiple beings, therefore the multiple limbs, which makes his silhouette pretty recognizable in battle scenes, and makes him one of the heavy hitters of the team. The idea is that he shows all the eyes of the ghosts on his forehead. I have a thing with eyes--on my designs, I either put none or too many!”
Damascene
“My initial idea was to make them bi-dimensional, like a paper sheet that will cut you when you try to grab it, but it was very difficult to convey that idea in comics, without movement. So I did his body absolutely geometrical to remark the sharpness of the body. Again, I decided to put no face. Expressionless beings are more scary, in my opinion.”
Megrim
“Probably the most vampire-looking of the litter. I hid her face on red cloth but my idea is that the cloth was always drenched in blood. The skirt's folds make shapes like faces screaming of pain. Everything is super intense with her. She must be unbearable.”
Unusual
“The initial idea by Jed was to make him a collage of old engravings, always changing, like some kind of sinister Max Ernst picture in movement, but that would present a copyright issue so I came up with a weird idea. I started with a bunch of parallel lines and used a liquify tool from Clip Studio to make shapes with those lines, and finally adapted these shapes to a human silhouette. It’s probably the weirdest and fastest design I've even done.”
Bloodstorm One
“I gave him a lot of thought because I didn't want to do a vampire super hero, but a true monster, who is scary enough that he’s even scared of himself. He hides his true nature under a perfect human shell, like some kind of Michelangelo's David which is rotten inside, twisted, homicidal. The worst monster of all is the one who wants to look as the perfect human. The armor is an homage to Vlad Tepes' armor from Coppola's Dracula film, which seemed to me like a proper reference.”

JED MACKAY REVEALS GRISLY NEW DETAILS ABOUT BLOOD HUNT!
Check out new BLOOD HUNT reveals straight from a special retailer conference, including a lettered preview and never-before-seen covers.
Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz’s BLOOD HUNT #1 hits stands on May 1.
New York, NY— March 8, 2024 — Earlier today, retailers were invited to a virtual Blood Hunt Retailer Conference to learn more about the upcoming crossover event straight from the source!
BLOOD HUNT writer and event architect Jed MacKay and Marvel Comics VP Executive Editor Tom Brevoort laid out the full scope of the saga, teased its biggest mysteries, hyped up the lasting impact it will have on the Marvel Universe, and answered retailer questions. Hosted by Ryan Penagos (VP & Creative Executive at Marvel), attendees also got an exclusive look at the blood and gore that awaits readers in BLOOD HUNT’s special parental advisory Red Band editions along with cover debuts of upcoming BLOOD HUNT tie-in issues. Right now, fans are welcome to check out some of what was unveiled in anticipation of BLOOD HUNT #1 hitting stands on May 1!
The event kicks off when various vampire factions, united for the first time in millennia, engineer a global attack using Darkforce energy to block out the sun. Having lurked in the shadows of the Marvel Universe since its very beginning, vampires are now unleashed on humanity as heroes and villains alike fall prey to their overwhelming bloodlust. WHO WILL BITE IT?
BLOOD HUNT is an epic saga that’s been seeded in Marvel stories for decades. Recent buildup includes MacKay’s current hit run of MOON KNIGHT, recent issues of MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN, last year’s BLOODLINE: THE DAUGHTER OF BLADE limited series, and more! In the grand tradition of beloved events like Civil War and Secret Invasion, BLOOD HUNT will be rewarding to longtime Marvel readers while also serving as a thrilling entry point into Marvel Comics for newer fans!
“As we’ve seen in Moon Knight, I keep chucking vampires in!” MacKay told retailers. “And [Blood Hunt] is a logical extension of that. I started gathering ideas and figuring out what we want to do from there, and a lot is keyed in from the work we’re doing on Moon Knight, and Doctor Strange is a natural vector into that. If there’s an Earth-shaking event, the Avengers will be the first on the scene.”
“This just seemed like a natural rise of all of these vampire threads that we could pull together and weave into an interesting tapestry. This would cover the full spectrum of the Marvel Universe in a justifiable event that doesn’t come out of nowhere,” Brevoort said.
On the Red Band Editions, MacKay said "[The Red Band scenes] aren't just happening to background characters. We're also seeing our heroes being impacted in a much more violent way."
"The best page for the Red Band edition in issue #1 is the last page of the book,” Brevoort added. “We can't reveal it since it gives away too much of the plot, but you'll know it when you get there."
Check out the lettered preview and new tie-in covers and preorder BLOOD HUNT #1 at your local comic shop today! BLOOD HUNT #1 is available at your local comic shop and digitally on May 1. The Red Band edition will release the same day and only be available in print! For more information, visit Marvel.com.
