“Ever since S.H.I.E.L.D. disbanded almost 10 years ago, the idea of bringing it back has come up at every creative retreat we’ve had. We’ve been working on the return of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a long time, and especially so over the past few months since our most recent creative retreat,” shared Cebulski. “After digging more into this Captain America story with Chip, Valerio, and our teams, it became clear that this was the right story and right time to do so. And with this year being the 60th anniversary since S.H.I.E.L.D.’s debut, we thought it was even more fitting to make this happen.”
Smaller, leaner, and more underground than its predecessor, the re-formed S.H.I.E.L.D. includes an eclectic group of agents: Joe Ramos, an altruistic soldier from Brooklyn; Charles Castlemore, a retired Marine with strong opinions about the Latverian resistance; Trevor Tambling, a soldier of fortune with unclear motives; and Red Widow, a former Russian agent abandoned by her home country for her questionable loyalty. Nick Fury must keep these soldiers in line as they carry out their secret task to retrieve Doom’s weapons—even if it means clashing with Cap!
“When we first announced plans for the second arc of this Cap run, I had a different idea in mind for the team supporting Steve. But when the possibility of a new S.H.I.E.L.D. came along, we just hit the ground running,” Zdarsky said. “S.H.I.E.L.D. is Marvel. It’s human ingenuity and fortitude, keeping the world safe. Bringing them back with a new mandate and scope has been incredibly fun. They’re starting small, but they, and Fury, have big plans.
“The world’s a dangerous place. Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. weren’t there to stop Doom, but maybe they can stop what’s coming next…” Zdarsky teased.

DC AND MARVEL CROSSOVER COMIC BOOKS CONTINUE THROUGH 2026
Superman and Spider-Man Reunite in a Historic Publishing Initiative from DC and Marvel
[Burbank, CA, October 2, 2025] DC and Marvel are reigniting their legendary collaboration and are continuing their cross-company publishing initiative through 2026. Timed to the 50th anniversary of Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man, the two publishers will release a series of reprint and original crossover comic books beginning in January 2026 that honors the past and propels comic book storytelling into the future.
Kicking things off in 2026, DC will reprint two Treasury Edition (10 1/8” x 13 5/16”) comic books that celebrate the legacy of the original DC/Marvel crossovers. On January 7, 2026, DC will publish Treasury Edition 50th Anniversary of Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man #1, a facsimile edition of the groundbreaking comic book that first united DC’s Man of Tomorrow and Marvel’s legendary Web-Slinger. DC will then print another facsimile edition on February 4, DC and Marvel Present: Superman and Spider-Man Treasury Edition #1, a reprint of Marvel Treasury Edition #28, bringing another classic out-of-print team-up back to comic book shops.
These legacy reprints set the stage for two brand-new crossover comic books arriving in spring 2026. DC will publish Superman/Spider-Man #1 in March, followed by Marvel Comics publishing Spider-Man/Superman #1 in April. Each one-shot comic book will feature original stories starring two of the most iconic characters in comics history, with creative teams to be announced soon.

“I’ve wanted to find a project for Rae for a long time, and finally just had the good sense to ask her if she had something in mind—and she did,” explains Mike Mignola. “She had half a dozen ideas—all great—but I was super impressed with this one, that she was able to create an entire character and situation based on a super tiny bit of a Lobster Johnson history. Such a fun addition to the Hellboy universe. We banged some details back and forth, but that was all fun and easy. She is a joy to work with and I hope this is only the beginning.”
Carmen Red Claw is a descendent of the notorious El Bogavante, the fearsome privateer who first appeared in Mike Mignola, John Arcudi and Tonci Zonjic’s 2014 Lobster Johnson: Get The Lobster featuring iconic 1930s crimefighter, the Lobster. Working as a shape-shifting, supernatural gun-for-hire, Carmen investigates a supposedly cursed ranch in 1870s New Mexico territory. Something is killing the cattle in the area, and it's up to Carmen to find out whether there’s a beast to blame, or if humans are the real monsters.
“One of my favorite parts about Hellboy is the merging of classic folklore with the Hellboy universe,” says Rae Allen. “A lot of that ground has already been covered in Europe, how about more from America? I’m a big fan of the radio show Have Gun Will Travel (aired 1958-1960), and I thought a Paladin-style gun-for-hire in a supernatural Old West facing off with Native American, Colonial, and Mignolaverse monsters would be a lot of fun. Plus, why not add a lizard shoulder demon? Mike and I bounced ideas off each other and landed on a story that we think you’ll really enjoy. And I’m excited to introduce you to some Lakota folklore inspired by Yankton Dakota author Zitkala-Sa, enriched with the help of my friend Shiala King.”

This jumbo-sized one-shot will feature stories of the mysterious and deadly Spider Sect, including the adventures of the exiled warrior sorceress, Wysta the Wayward Wytch. Alongside Aaron and Asrar will be contributions from artist Baldemar Rivas (DC’s Two-Face, the forthcoming Godzilla Vs. Kansas City).
