ABRAMS COMICARTS AND MARVEL ANNOUNCE 2 NEW SPRING 2026 TITLES
Thor: Behemoth of the Black Moon by Eric Powell (Marvel Arts) and
Marvels: The Novelization by Steve Darnall, with illustrations by Alex Ross
NEW YORK, NY—SEPTEMBER 24, 2025—Abrams ComicArts, in collaboration with Marvel, is excited to announce two new publishing projects set for release in May 2026: Thor: Behemoth of the Black Moon, an original graphic novel by Eric Powell, and Marvels: The Novelization by Steve Darnall, with new illustrations by Alex Ross.
Thor: Behemoth of the Black Moon is part of the Marvel Arts line, a publishing initiative curated by Alex Ross and edited by Charles Kochman, editor-in-chief of Abrams ComicArts. Each title is a self-contained work shaped by the voice and style of the creator behind it.
Eric Powell, creator of the Eisner Award–winning series The Goon, brings his distinct blend of myth, mood, and grit to the world of Asgard. In this new story, the God of Thunder must confront the dark legacy of his father, Odin, and face the consequences of a past that refuses to stay buried. Powell’s work has been celebrated for its emotional depth, striking visuals, and storytelling that bridges genre fiction and mythology, making this an ideal entry in the Marvel Arts line
Marvels: The Novelization is a collaboration between Marvel and Abrams ComicArts. It is the first-ever prose adaptation of the ground breaking, award-winning 1994 comic book series by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. Written by Steve Darnall and featuring a new cover, an afterword, and full-color and black-and-white illustrations by Ross, the novelization revisits the story of photojournalist Phil Sheldon as he witnesses the rise of super humans in the Marvel Universe from the streets of New York. This literary adaptation expands on one of Marvel’s most seminal works and offers readers a new way to engage with this iconic, original story.
“Years ago, I had the immense privilege of working with Alex Ross on the story that helped to inspire Marvels—and, like a lot of people, I became a big fan of the story that Alex and Kurt Busiek told in their terrific series,” says Steve Darnall. “It's been a real pleasure working with the team at Abrams ComicArts as we take Kurt and Alex's story and present it in a way that hasn't been done before."
“Marvels: The Novelization fulfills along-held ambition I’ve had to see an even greater expansion of the original work,” comments Alex Ross. “I’m thrilled with what Steve has written and look forward to sharing what he’s done with the world. Having Eric Powell join us at Marvel Arts is a big get. He honors us with his incredible skill as a storytelling master, and having him finally do a Thor story is a match made in Asgard. The endless possibilities of Abrams ComicArts and Marvel Arts are something I am creatively fulfilled by to help books into being and through my own graphic novel ambitions.”
“Growing up a Marvel kid as I did, getting free rein to tell a story with a premier character like Thor is a dream come true,” explains Eric Powell. “I didn’t want to waste this opportunity, so I’m doing exactly what I want—a big cosmic adventure with giant Kirby style monsters. Yeah, this book is absolutely my love letter to Jack Kirby and Walt Simons on, and I think their influences will be clear. Did I mention cosmic monsters? Cosmic . . . MONSTERS. The kid in me is giddy. I’m so appreciative of Alex Ross, Marvel, and Abrams ComicArts for offering me this project and allowing me to do my thing in this universe.”
“With each new Marvel title, we hope to take readers into unexpected places," explains Charles Kochman. “The variety of stories and creators and formats shows the range of what is possible with this medium, and we are grateful to Marvel for their support and collaboration.”
Thor: Behemoth of the Black Moon and Marvels: The Novelization highlight the creative strength of the collaboration between Marvel and Abrams ComicArts. One book brings readers deep into Asgard’s past through Eric Powell’s sweeping visual storytelling. And the other reintroduces a landmark story in prose by Steve Darnall, with illustrations by Alex Ross. These works show the range and impact of Marvel’s characters through two very different but equally powerful formats. Both titles will be available wherever books and comics are sold in May 2026.

INANNA SARKIS TEAMS WITH VAULT COMICS FOR ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL, INANNA: THE NAME SHE LOST
For immediate release.
The story begins in San Francisco, once the heart of a counterculture movement of peace and love, now a city at war with itself. Mayor and presidential hopeful Tim Teller promises to fix the problems, but he has a new issue. On a brisk September evening, Inanna emerges from the Bay, wearing nothing but a lapis necklace. She remembers little more than her name…and that a deep sense of rage. Possessed of immense strength and unwavering charisma, Inanna becomes a champion of the people. But her immortal life as a goddess of love and war is coming back to haunt her. Ancient enemies and modern mythic forces collide as love and war clash in a battle for the soul of humanity—and Inanna herself.
"This story is deeply personal for me and seeing it finally come to life is truly a dream come true, said Sarkis. “I grew up hearing fragments of ancient myths about the goddess Inanna, but never saw them told in a way that felt alive, raw, and relevant to the world we’re in today. With this graphic novel, we’re reimagining her not just as a goddess, but as a mirror — of love, rage, resilience, and transformation. It’s about what happens when the past collides with the present, and how a figure born of myth can still speak to the chaos and beauty of our human experience. I wanted to tell a story that embraces both the light and the darkness — the tenderness of connection and the brutality of conflict — because those dualities live in all of us."
“We chose to keep the title Inanna not because it’s my name, but because it belongs to the ancient Sumerian goddess whose mythology anchors this story—and honoring that legacy felt more important than avoiding any appearance of vanity or narcissism.”
"As someone who works across film and storytelling, stepping into the world of comics has been liberating,” she added. “The medium allows us to play with time, memory, and emotion in such a visceral way. Ademir’s art brings everything to life in such an extraordinary way, while Tim and I built a story that’s mythic but also intimate. My hope is that readers feel seen in these pages — that they find a little bit of themselves in our heroine’s fight, her vulnerability, and her defiance."
"I felt honored to be part of this Inanna project,” said Leal of the graphic novel. “I have always enjoyed telling good stories through my art, especially exploring themes such as fantasy, mythology, gods, and the medieval universe. Creating the concepts for characters, palaces, and settings was an enriching experience, made even more special with the support of Inanna Sarkis. Since Sarkis is of Assyrian descent, I was able to learn a lot about her culture and incorporate that knowledge into the work, which made the process even more enjoyable. Each chapter I illustrated was not only a creative challenge but also a constant learning experience, broadening my artistic and personal vision."
Seeley added, "I was initially attracted to the project because Inanna (the real person) and I come from really different worlds...she's a model, an actress, and an influencer, and she has a legion of followers and fans who are not the usual comic book fan. So, I figured, this is a great way to reach brand new people! But, the more I talked to Inanna (also, again, the real person), the more I also really loved the story, and her take on it---the tale of a goddess who forgot what she stood for in the pursuit of fame and worship. I'm not sure there's a much more relevant theme in today's world."
Inanna Sarkis, a Canadian actress of Bulgarian and Assyrian descent, became one of the digital space's preeminent content creators, using her channels to showcase comedy skits and short films in which she writes, directs and stars. She's found success on a variety of platforms and media, including film and television. She recently starred in THE ASCENT and RED MASK, the latter is scheduled to premiere Oct 11th at Screamfest Film festival. She can also be seen in David Mamet’s THE PRINCE opposite Nicolas Cage and Scott Haze and Amazon’s MAINTENANCE REQUIRED which is set to release Oct. 8th. Inanna is also known for playing "Molly" in the film series AFTER, starring opposite Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes. She has also lent her voice to QCode for the podcast series THE LEFT RIGHT GAME starring alongside Tessa Thompson. She then moved on in creating her own podcast ZAYA which it hit #1 on Apple's Fiction Podcast list. Last but not least, Inanna is the newest global ambassador of the International Medical Corps and has donated financially and helped raise awareness on the Syrian Refugee Crisis over the past several years.
The full graphic novel will hit store shelves in May, 2026.
