I can't believe we've gone this long without starting a beer thread. I enjoyed the one on the old board and actually tried some of the beverages that were liked by others.
I've discovered that I really like Sam Adams Oktoberfest. I've never enjoyed the Boston Lager but this Oktoberfest is good stuff. I also finally tried Yeungling Black & Tan. Also very good.

Agreed, but I think that is always the risk of buying beer blind, no matter where its from. The same friend found another Advent calendar of beer at Costco, and that was like $65. I passed on that one. No way it is worth the price. He said the beers were better, but still that is $65 for basically a case of beer..
It's been about 2½ years since I virtually dropped beer from my menu. I've also dropped about 35 lbs. (but, admittedly, Mounjaro has helped with that).
While researching for the cryptid book, I returned to New Hamburg, Ontario. My article, years ago, was a part of the revival of the local Nith River Monster, but only a part. Since then, the local brew pub starting brewing a Nith River Monster IPA:
Incredibly, I saw the fabled beast while in town:
Or, possibly, they placed a statue of it in the recently-opened conservation area. I have to confirm that this is the 1957 fibreglass statue which was recovered a few years back in a barn and then restored. That's the word, but I have left a message with the person who spearheaded the restoration. In the meantime, I made contact with other people, including a bartender who told me that an older woman comes in who swears that her father invented the entire story back in '53. Having done the research, I can confirm that he almost certainly did, in collusion with the local newspaper, as a way of promoting a forthcoming town festival.
Um, I mean, there was a monster running around a small town in 1953 at night! Remarkable!

Still, the concept of a Beer Advent Calendar has potential.
That's what you get for buying beer at ALDI.

Agreed JD, I certainly like the concept.
(incidentally, the haunted house in the movie of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is also from Petrolia. It's about an hour's drive from me).
