A Cover a Day

Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

Discussion and voting on future monthly themes takes place on the "A Cover A Day: Nominations, Themes and Statistics" thread.  Click here to view the thread, or here to go to its last reply.

8369503498?profile=RESIZE_710xI believe I started the month with a Graham Hunter cover, so I’ll end the month with one as well

  • Since Elsa is not on the cover, this qualifies!

I'm surprised no one has attempted this kind of "snow" cover before:

Just last night, I was reading through some of my collected editions of Fables, and thinking that Snow White ought to appear this month.  So here she is in a winter landscape, together with her husband Bigby Wolf.

I'm not enjoying the cold icy weather we're currently experiencing in the UK.  Even so, as shown here, hot icy weather might be even worse.

My last cover of 2020 was chosen for its use of the word "virus".  Let's hope that in the New Year we can finally, like the skier seen below, speed away and leave that all behind us!  A much happier 2021 to us all!

  • So, another year comes to an end. A disappointing year for many reasons, not least of which, after 49 years, or most of my adult life, we are leaving the European Union. I never thought I'd see this day in my life; I just hope that the future isn't as barren as I'm expecting it to be.  Once a remainer, always a remainer. Happy New Year to one and all!

  • I guess this must have been one of those posted while Jeff was unable to see some covers...

    Snow scenes in surprising places...

  • Oh, I forgot. It's not so much snow in surprising places, though; it's a villain who gets his power from snorting cocaine (a different kind of "snow").

    • January 2021 - Doppelgängers.

  • And so we pass into 2021! I hope it's a brighter year...
