Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

And, now that the pandemic is finally in decline, good to see The Frug making a welcome return...

In the U.S. McDonald's doesn't seem to have shortages relating to milkshakes. Their recent shortage is in paper bags. Since so many of their customers have moved to take-out/take-away, the usage of bags has gone through the roof.

A shortage of truck/lorry drivers is continuing to be a problem here in the U.S. for all types of goods. This has been attributed to COVID and to many people switching to other jobs.

An outdoor activity that has yet to be mentioned is star gazing.

While anyone can basically do it at any time, weather permitting...

I'm sure the more professional ones had trouble getting to their observatories during the stricter pandemic regulations last year...

Then again, some things should be left to the professionals...

A couple of major supermarket chains in the UK have just issued warnings that we may experience problems with the supply of various Christmas goods due to a similar driver shortage over here.  In our case, however, the shortage is mostly being blamed on Brexit, with drivers from Europe returning to their home countries.  The supermarkets have helpfully told us that there should be no need to panic buy, but have failed to say what not to panic buy.

So it's probably best to panic buy everything!

Here's a "Highway" cover that seems relevant.

The unofficial theme song of Ulysses Solomon Archer.

HONKIN' DOWN THE HIGHWAY

Honkin' honkin' down the gosh darn highway

Tryin' tryin' to get past them cars

Got a got a little date with an angel

She's the one that said she'd go with me

To see a little movie tonight

(Honk honk honkin' down the highway)

Her folks told me that she's lonely

And she loves me only

She's used to running away from guys

Prayin' prayin' that she'll hold me tight (hoo!)

And hopin' hopin' that she'll see the light

Who cares if I gotta spend my money

Even if I have to act funny

To go and steal her heart away

(Honk honk honkin' down the highway)

Take it one little inch at a time now '

Til we're feelin' fine now

I guess I've got a way with girls

Honk honk honkin' down the highway

Honk honk honkin' down the highway

Honk honk honkin' down the highway

Honk honk honkin' down the highway

Honk honk honkin' down the highway

Take it one little inch at a time now

'Til we're feelin' fine now

I guess I've got a way with girls

Prayin' prayin' that she'll hold me tight (yeah)

(Honk honk honkin' down the highway)

And hopin' hopin' that she'll see the light

(Honk honk honkin' down the highway)

Who cares if I gotta spend the night

(Honk honk honkin' down the highway)

...and Speed Racer's (remix).

I just saw a story that the shortage of coins is still a problem for banks and stores. The number of transactions that required loose change dropped drastically while we were on lockdown, and when the stores and restaurants opened back up the use of credit and debit cards rose.

A number of restaurants have had a similar problem when they reopened for full service.

I'm surprised we haven't seen CARtoons (1959-1991), Mad magazine for the car/racing/rat rod set. I recall a few issues kicking around our place in the early 1970s:

Unfortunately, Kirby's "Mountain of Judgement" never made the cover.

Highways can be dangerous places

I wonder if the New Newsboy Legion ever made it to the UK and went shopping at a Widl?

A Whiz Wagon would be handy to avoid stopping along the way.
