The present issue of ROLLING STONE (Jack White cover) has a cover-blurbed mini-/potted history of the X-Men , cover the comics first start , then re-start , and how the movies started . I don't know whether it's on-line or no .

Bendis is writing them so I'm staying as far away as I can.
...The piece mentions both Kirby and Byrne as not-officially " writers " contributors .
It tends to take a more " pro-Stan " stance than much inside-fandom comics journalism does these days ~ Have you noticed that ever ? Mainline journalism tends to (implicitly , anyway) follow the " Stan did ~ well , most of it anyway " storyline whereas much fandom comment tends to doubt that narrative about The Man , now . The deep fans are more Stan-questioning , anyhow , than the norms !!!!!!!!!
One now-departed CC-er stated , that as far as he saw it , " Stan was an editor ~ not a writer " a fairly strong-end position (While still allowing Stan SOME role !) on the spectrum of this .
I've never heard much about the Kirby-oriented camp/the King himself's comments about how much they feel Jack contributed to the Xes .
I just have no real comment on your comment , Mark .
I've read a couple of online analyses of what impact the last X-movie has made on the X-isting ones, and there's an argument to be made that both Wolverine movies and X-Men: The Last Stand no longer "count" in virtually there entirety, while parts of the first two movies (any part involving Wolverine with metal claws, for example) must be altered to some degree.
****SPOILER FOR DAYS OF FUTURE PAST****
Was the movie like the new Star Trek in that the time travel changed the franchise going forward? Maybe I watched it with less attention than I thought. I thought the lack of metal claws was because Logan's mind went back to his pre-adamantium body, and that the metal claws were still in his future. I did enjoy his surprise and going through the metal detector without any bells going off.
That last minute "twinkle" of Mystique's eyes in Stryker's face really messed up Wolverine's backstory for no apparent reason, didn't it? Maybe Mystique will trade Logan to the real Stryker in exchange for Stryker's mutant son, Jason, and thus set things up so that something more like the "real" Mastermind can appear in the movieverse? Of course, what would Wolverine be if people didn't feel the need to constantly screw up his back story?
