  • Could a Bismollian defeat Adamantium?  What if Ultron were made from Inertron?  Is Inertron magnetic?  Would Magneto/Polaris/Cosmic Boy be problematic?

  • Was Inertron too tough for Superboy in the Silver Age? My recollection is Superboy and Mon-El tore open the Inertron cube protecting the Miracle Machine in Superboy #213. In contrast, adamantium was able to stand up to Thor's hammer.

Matter-Eater Lad managed (spoiler warning Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes ##250-251) to eat the Miracle Machine, whereas Superboy, Mon-El and the other Legionnaires couldn't even dent it in Superboy #213. I think he could have handled adamantium.

  • Unless adamantium acts as an insulator against magnetism, Ultron's interior construction as well as his exterior form would have to be constructed of the metal to protect him against Magneto or Cosmic Boy. And he'd have to keep his mouth shut (but no chance of that happening. How else could he display his interior Kirbydots?)

  • What, no love for Supermanium?
  • Supermanium could only be moulded by Superman using his super-strength once he had softened it with his heat vision. That beats out inertron if it's portrayal in Superboy #213 (see above) is not atypical. I was inclined to think that if supermanium could be softened by heat vision and then moulded it likely wasn't tougher than adamantium, but in Captain Marvel Adventures #100 Captain Marvel created marvelium, which could only be worked by his strength and which Sivana was unable to penetrate in spirit form. Since Captain Marvel was able to work marvelium by his strength, without softening if first with heat vision (which he didn't possess), supermanium is presumably stronger. If it has ever been shown that the Vision can pass through adamantium when intangible we may infer that marvelium is more formidable than adamantium, and consequently that supermanium also is. (When Ultron passed through the Vision's intangible form in Avengers #57 he did not yet possess an adamantium body. He acquired that on his next appearance, in Avengers #66.)

On the other hand, Superman's Supermobile was made of supermanium, and it had a clear canopy i.e. that light could penetrate, whereas according to Captain Marvel Adventures #100 absolutely nothing could penetrate marvelium.

On the other hand again, according to Captain Marvel marvelium is the 99th element of the periodic table, in which case it should correspond to einsteinium

  • Neutronium. It's the what Spock said the hull of the planet-killer in "The Doomsday Machine" was made of.

  • Validus has been held in an inertron cell a few times, so that seems pretty tough to me.

  • Supermanium and Marvelium were both cooked up by Otto Binder, I believe, so they're probably equal in toughness (i.e., exactly as tough as the story requires).
