I'd like to inagurate this as a thread for Spider-Man discussion...and , as of now anyways , spoilerless comments about the new " The Amazing Spider-Man 2 " movie ,w hich I have not seen yet...I was thinking of maybe seeing it to-day , 6/6/14 , when the local Roxie has lower prices...Howevs , I will likely have to/need to make up sleep time to-day , after being on the computer for hours .

I buoght a lot of Spider-comics in the Oughties , but , the aftermath of " Brand New Day " rather drove me away ~ such an expensive thrice-mothly , more than outrage at the set-up of " BND " ~ I wasn't real wild about the concept , or " It's 1985 , more or less , again !!!!!!!!! " but I still bought some...........Then , about 2011 , I bought , at a newsstand account , this " Spider-Man Saga prose " + illustrations one-shot that got me up on various post-" BND " doings ~ Including stories I had missed entirely .

This , plus feeling snookered by buying that " Saga " with money when it was a freebie at comics shops ~ Um , I very very heavily cut down on Spidies .

I was pretty poor then , too .

  • Logic aside he seems to be a popular as ever.

  • ..I think I still , essentially anyway...AM pretty poor !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I mostly quit collecting comics, including Spider-Man, circa 1986.  I didn't entirely quit, but most of what I've bought since has been more based on my enjoyment of the quality of the writing and art than on any particular character and I've bought a lot more trades than floppies.  I got a little fed up with multi-title events or finding that a good story-line in one title was forcibly interrupted by a company wide event.

Anyhow, I did see the latest Spidey flick, and mostly enjoyed it but thought it was too long and perhaps should have been reshaped into two 90 minute films rather than cut as it apparently was into one roughly 150 minute film.  Hard to say much more about it without going into spoilers.

  • ...In my " Santa Cruz period " of the last couple years (Is it a compliment , sign of " my uniqueness " , that Ye Mods have changed the heading of this , putting my name on it ??????? Or , um , is it a " warn everybody else away " ??? Gleeps !...) , I've bought some Spideys...

The Doc Ock/Spidey series that is just now wrapping up HAS seemed decent/fairly-pretty good , in what I have read of it , but , it is SO expensive , as often as three-times-monthly , still ???...With no letter columns or something to give you the feeling that you're getting a magazine , something other than an advance , serialized , version of a TPB that is possibly meant to be vaguely " collectible " (Something I can't really do .)...and the fact that Marvel has been treating the Spideys as cash cows , often , IIRC , recently making them " 40-pagers " (More than a standard 32-page comics's worth of comics material , I mean .) , maybe even making " normal " 20-ish pages of story comics $3.99 ones , while the " something extra " ones are $3.99 - or even $4.99 ? - Which means that newsstand copies , with Marvel's adding a dollar onto the price of newsstand copies , could possibly be as expensive as $5.99 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have I mentioned that I've been REALLY poor :-( ?????????????????????????????

      God !!!!!!!!!!! DON'T GIVE THEM IDEAS !!!!!!!!!

  • ...It has been brought to me/I have been made aware that ASM 2 (BTW , when did H'Wood studios stop putting Roman numerals , rather than the mainstream Arabic?? ones , on sequels' titles to designate them ???) has a genuine e " shock " development - which has surprised some " normals ":-) .

Okay , I am , basically , 100% sure of what it is but I'll Marquis Of Queensbury-ize and not say what it is ~ I think we all know what it is , too.........

  • I saw ASM2 on May 6. Hope you did too, ED. I enjoyed it greatly.

I found this review on Geek.com. It's interesting but DOES contain spoilers.

  • ...Thank you , Richard , but I'll probably wait to read it...

  • ...It had come to my attention that there is an apparent backlash against " ASM II " (and a predicted " big 2ndweek comedown " but " overseas may save it " - Is this the modern movie biz equivalent of SPINAL TAP (There ever been a ST comic of any kind , BTW ?) 's " coast in Japan for a few years " or whatever it was ?????????) .

Is this because of That Twist , at least partly ?

I may rush up my seeing of ASMII , just to be able to , fully , " join the conversation":-) !

Then , I decided to buy , at my OCS , the prequel to ASMII TPB I'd seen there ----- Found out that it includes vintage material as well , though .

They wouldn't have darkened Electro's coloring in the vintage reprints ~ WOULD they ?

      Will an equivalent the flick's Foxxed-up Elect-Yo - Elect-Bro ? - be showing up in 616 soon ?

That's fine by me . (Presumably Electro 1 and the Jamie-d one shared homeless and/or imprisinment space , so " Bro " .) Even granting that the original outfit is - siiggh:-( - probably too old fashioned for a modern-day movie , the hoodie and albino face skin seems a bit too " down " , though .

  • ...So , is ASM II the new BATMAN AND ROBIN/Sony-Tristar GODZILLA ? I ask yez .

( I have an anecdote I remember regarding the Sony-G that demonstrates the mass media-hype machine and too an extent how it will attempt to correct itself , even in the , kinda ,sorta , pre-Internet era - but later .
