Batwing #1: Initial Reaction

Another "whim" purchase, basically, although I have always been a sucker for the "Batmen of many nations" concept, and have been enjoying the Batman, Incorporated.

I kind of liked this - I never read nothing by Winick before, but this seems well-written. I don't know enough about life in contemporary Africa to say how well the continent is represented, but so far it seems pretty good.  The first issue tells of Batwing meeting Massacre, the heel who seems destined to become his adversary. Massacre certainly comes across as a very formidable fellow.

The art on this is very good - Oliver certainly does a good job here.

    I don't like Winick's writing.
  • It was the one DCNu title that actually sold out yesterday at my shop.  The owner said they had underestimated the interest in this, Animal Man, and Swamp Thing.
  • It's REALLY good.

  • I just read this one. I'm not familiar with Batwing pre-Flashpoint but I mostly enjoyed the issue. I don't like the graphic violence but it's still not as gruesome as Detective Comics. I'll buy the next issue but I'll wait a month after it's released to buy the digital version after the price drops a dollar.
