Cappies 2011 Nomination Thread

Hello hello,

We're getting close to the end of the year and that means we're getting close to Cappie time.  So here are the rules:

There are 26 categories.  Anyone who is a member of the Captain Comics message board is allowed to submit nominations.  You many nominate up to two entries for each category, but you do not have to nominate something for every category (in other words, you can nominate 0, 1 or 2 per category).  Contributions will only be considered for the calendar year 2011, though there is some flexibility for items that came out in late 2010 and may have been cover-dated for 2011 and for mini-series which continued over from the previous year.

The categories are:

Best Writer

Best Artist

Most Underrated Writer

Most Underrated Artist

Best Self-Contained Story (Single Issue or One-Shot)

Best Story Arc

Best Limited Series

Best Ongoing Series

Best New Title

Most Underrated Title

Best Original Graphic Novel

Best Web Comic

Best Reprint or Archive

Best Male Character

Best Female Character

Best Villain

Best New Character

Best Supporting Character

Best Team

Biggest Surprise (in-story)

Best Cover

Best Single Panel

Best Fight Scene

Best Character Recovery

Best Superhero Story in Another Media

RIP Award (for fictional characters)

A few quick notes:

I'm sure there will be a lot of competition for Best New Series.  Traditionally, the voters considered new series rather than relaunches but it's up to you as nominators and voters to decide if something qualifies as new.

Nominations for Best Cover and Best Single Panel should include a picture, or at least a link to a picture.

When we expanded to 26 categories, I mentioned that I may eventually drop 1 or 2 in order to rein things in a little.  At this point, I'm considering discontinuing the RIP Award after this year.  Looking at the history of the award, every character but one has either been brought back or reintroduced with a replacement/alternate dimension doppelganger, etc.  Feel free to offer an unofficial "yes, keep it" or "no, don't bother" vote for the RIP Award.

I'll keep the nominations open for at least a week.   So get them in by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

  • C'mon, I KNOW other folks have noms.

  • I have until next Tuesday or Wednesday.

  • I'm adding a couple to my list:

For Best Superhero Story in Another Media, I'm adding the novel After the Golden Age by Carrie Vaughn.  It doesn't stand a chance against all of the movies, but it's at least worth a shout out to one of our Wild Cards writers.

And for Best Single Panel or Splash Page, I'm adding Johnny Storm standing up to the hordes of the Negative Zone from Fantastic Four #587.  Though the panel on the next page of him being overwhelmed by those same hordes, is equally awesome. (edit: sorry, I couldn't figure out how to crop the image to include only the single panel).
