    BLUE MOUNTAIN: Right now I am drinking a Blue Mountain cocktail, inspired Ghidora the Three-Headed Monster (which, now that I think of it, would make a better name for the drink, made from vodka, rum and kalua, plus orange juice). Mine is not particularly blue (I guessed at the measures but came pretty close), but I'm sure I could make it bluer by choosing a different kind of kalua. 

    I would have thoughtt it would have blue curaçao in it.

    As a "thank you" a friend brought me back a bottle of Tequila from Mexico. Its a reposado, which is usually brown in color because it is aged longer. This is clear though, like a silver. Its a cristalino reposado, I did a little research. This version is filtered through activated charcoal, which removes the color and enhances they fruit and floral notes. I haven't cracked it open yet, this is a sipping spirit.

  • It has been three years since I stopped drinking. The only exception I have made in that time is when we go out to dinnier. Other than that I have been riding the water wagon ever since. then, last night, somebody gave me a bottle of 19 Oaks Whiskey from the Front Porch Distillery in Nacogdoches, Texas. Mmm, boy! That is one tasty blend! There was a time, after I returned from Scotland (traveling with a man who was an expert on Scotch), when I thought I might strive to become an expert on Texas whiskeys. But that's a lifetime goal and was was getting far too late of a start. I wish I would have thought of that when I first moved to Texas 25 years ago.

    In other whiskey-related news, the Front Porch Distillery (see above) is going out of business. The same friend who gave me a bottle of 19 Oaks Whiskey has bought two cases, so I'll likely get a bottle or two from him to test our my new glass.

  • I'm impressed with the drinks knowlege on this thread! I've never been a big hard liquor guy so I don't know much. And I'm allergic to gin, so there's that. I will just continue to read and learn. 

    • I sometimes feel I wasted too much of my life drinking beer. I wish now I had spent more time drinking Scotch. It's too late now; my health digestion doesn't really allow it. I've got a nifty glass, but I probably won't get much use out of it. :(

    • I was a scotch drinker in my younger days, up until my 50s, with my favorite being Oban. But my tastes seemed to have changed, and I don't much care for it any more. I have no explanation. Maybe they'll change back someday.

  • Oh wow. I love that whiskey "glass", Jeff. Super cool.

    Cap, one of the reasons I started drinking hard liqour is that it is more economical for me. I can drink beer all day, almost literally. Give me a couple of straight bourbons (on the rocks or neat) that I can sip on, and I am good. 

    My personal favorite bourbon of the past few years is Paddleford Creek from Minnesota of all places. I like the hint of sweetness that it brings. 

    This Friday I am hosting my 3rd Black Friday party. Last year I made a couple of "black" drinks. a pitcher of Black Russians and another of Black Sangria. The problem is most people end up bringing their own drinks. Beer, wine, etc. I have 2 friends who came who don't drink. So, most of it went to waste. This year I'm going to reel it back and maybe just make one drink, and do them to order.
