Comics for Feb. 25, 2026

It's another week where I have to cobble together the guide. It worries me how many errors might creep in. And it doesn't leave me a lot of time to actually talk about the books! Annoying.

TOP PUBLISHERS

NO. 1: DC COMICS
From Lunar Distribution

ACTION COMICS #419 FACSIMILE EDITION: First Human Target.

BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS #1 (OF 4) FACSIMILE EDITION

THE BAT-MAN SECOND KNIGHT #3 (OF 3): I enjoyed the first book, with all the swipes of Hollywood stills, and I hope for much the same in the second.

DETECTIVE COMICS #1106

GREEN LANTERN #32

HARLEY QUINN #59: Apparently, Harley has a new girlfriend. Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long. If Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are a couple, that's something you have to deal with in both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. Both are easier to write if you don't have a second protagonist shoe-horned in every month.

JUSTICE LEAGUE VS GODZILLA VS KONG 2 #7 (OF 7)

LIMITED COLLECTORS EDITION #39 SECRET ORIGINS SUPER-VILLAINS FACSIMILE EDITION: Reprint of a reprint. The original Treasury edition reprinted origin stories, or at least first appearances, of Lex Luthor, Sinestro, Dr. Sivana, Cheetah, Captain Cold and The Joker. I had read most of these stories already when I bought the Treasury back inna day, and I don't think I need them in yet another format.

NEW HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE: THE DAKOTA INCIDENT #1 (ONE SHOT)

31092214484?profile=RESIZE_192X(W) Various (A) Various (CA) Diego Olortegui

A CAN'T-MISS NEW HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE SPIN-OFF TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH! Written by Joseph P. Illidge, Stephanie Williams, Morgan Hampton and Nikolas Draper-Ivey Art by Carlo Pagulayan, Valentine De Landro and Edwin Galmon Spinning out of the pages of New History of the DC Unviverse, uncover an untold moment in DC history, where a murder leads to an all-out war between the heroes of Dakota City and U.S. government! As their home becomes a battlefield, what must Static, Rocket, and the others sacrifice to keep their loved ones safe? But as heroes fall in the past, the stage is set for their return in the present...

Say what? Does that mean the HC I ordered of New History for my bookshelf will be incomplete? Dirty trick, DC!

But it does mean we'll get a better understanding of how Milestone fits in the DCU, and an idea of how often we might see those characters, which is welcome. I wouldn't mind other "expansions" of New History, expecially (as you might expect) the Golden Age. Mark Waid skipped over a lot of details!

VERTIGO

THE PERIL OF THE BRUTAL DARK: AN EZRA CAIN MYSTERY #1 (OF 6): Another new Vertigo book. Ezra Cain is a private dick in the 1940s.

THE COMPLETE ELSEWORLDS EPIC! On a postapocalyptic Earth overrun by monsters, the battle between good and evil ended long ago ... and evil won. Now darkness prevails as humanity struggles to survive in the corrupted wasteland that remains. Only one hero is said to haunt what’s left of our shadowed cities, the one who wields a mystical green flame — the Green Lantern. But she’s been missing for years, and dangers on the island of New England are growing. An undead army led by Solomon Grundy. A ferocious beast haunting New Camelot, stalking the streets and stealing children. A cruel witch queen that feeds on misery. Will light return to this dark world, or has hope been extinguished for good? From celebrated horror artist Werther Dell’Edera (Something Is Killing the Children) and rising-star writer Tate Brombal (House of Slaughter), explore the bitter remains of the fan-favorite Tangent Universe in issues #1-7 of Green Lantern Dark!

This looked interesting to me when it came out, but I decided to tradewait. I'm guessing that all of the other Tangent characters are dead in this version, and only the Green Lantern variant is left. Which is OK. She had the coolest visual, if nothing else. I'm kinda fuzzy on her particulars, though.

JOKER: THE BRONZE AGE OMNIBUS HC: We don't need this, because we've got Jeff of Earth-J!

JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE NEW 52 BOOK 3 TP: How much of the New 52 Justice League carried over to current continuity? I'm pretty sure that New 52 restored Wonder Woman as a founding member, which I think is still true. And New 52 established Darkseid as the foundational reason the team came together (and THEN they fought Starro). I think that's still true as well. But honestly, none of that's very important, because it's likely to change anyway. What will stand the test of time is Jim Lee's art.

MR TERRIFIC: YEAR ONE TP: Tempted. I might re-read his origin in Spectre and then decide.

SUPERMAN UNLIMITED VOL 1 HC

In the near future, Earth's fiercest fighters have gathered for an underground martial arts tournament organized by a shadowy organization. But all hell breaks loose when an unexpected combatant enters the ring: an alien PREDATOR! Now the champions are battling not just for the grand prize, but for their very lives! Can a disparate group of competitors band together in time to survive the extraterrestrial hunter?! Choose your fighter, place your bets and brace yourselves for a bloody tournament unlike any other! RATED PARENTAL ADVISORY.

Eventually Disney will be on my streamer rotation and I can watch Predator: Badlands. I hear good things.

PUNISHER (2026) #1

31092209694?profile=RESIZE_400xWriter: Benjamin Percy
Penciller: Jose Luis Soares Pinto
Cover Artist: David Marquez

CRIME'S WORST NIGHTMARE IS BACK IN AN ALL-NEW ONGOING SERIES! As unflinching and uncompromising as ever, Frank Castle's memory is damaged and he's hunting for answers and criminals alike! He'll get more than he bargained for of both when the notorious and bloodthirsty JIGSAW returns…with THE PUNISHER dead in his sights!

Nothing will ever top Garth Ennis' "Welcome Back, Frank," and I don't know why anybody would try. It certainly won't be Benjamin Percy, who is not one of my favorites. He wrote what may be the worst James Bond graphic novel in history, and I hold a grudge.

SMALL FAVORS: THE DEFINITIVE GIRLY PORNO COLLECTION (NEW EDITION)

31092598480?profile=RESIZE_192X(W/A/CA) Colleen Coover

Collecting Eisner Award–winning illustrator Colleen Coover’s scintillating tale of sapphic friendship, love, and orgasmic indulgence in one softcover volume for the first time!Small Favors explores the playfully erotic romance between a highly aroused young woman, Annie, and the coquettish, pocket-size manifestation of her conscience, Nibbil. As a Cosmic Keeper of Annie’s Conscience, it’s Nibbil’s job to pull Annie’s mind out of the gutter—which is unfortunately the one place she’s bound (consentingly) and determined (begging) to stay herself. Encouragement turns to dripping excess as Annie and Nibbil learn that maybe all you can do in the face of temptation is give in to yourself . . . and your friends. This collection includes the full-color eighth issue of the original run, early character sketches and extra comics, and an introduction from writer Kelly Sue DeConnick (Bitch Planet, Wonder Woman Historia).

I'm not sure what distinguishes "girly" porn from any other kind. I'm willing to be educated, tho!

MURDER DRONES #1 (OF 6)

31092600062?profile=RESIZE_192X31092599699?profile=RESIZE_192X(W) Wyatt Kennedy (A) Jo Mi-Gyeong (CA) Alessio Zonno

Based on Glitch Productions' global animation phenomenon created by Liam Vickers and now streaming on Prime Video, it's three cheers for 'destroy all humans' as all-star creators Wyatt Kennedy (Nights, Marvel Voices) and Jo Mi-Gyeong (Eve, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) unleash the record-setting comics adaptation of the series that you have watched 330 million times: MURDER DRONES! In the far future on the desolate exoplanet designated Copper 9, the humans are long gone but the robotic worker drones they created to mine the planet's resources are still hard at work. Together, they have managed to forge their own makeshift society ... or so they thought until a previously unknown kind of robot — the dreaded 'Murder Drones' — are activated by a long-forgotten human-scripted protocol to disassemble any worker that deviates from its original programming. But when a rebellious young worker drone named Uzi forms an unlikely alliance with two disassembly drones — Serial Designations N and V —c an they, together, uncover the secrets of their origins ... and stop the spread of the unsettling mechanical virus known as the Absolute Solver? Robots, violence, teen angst, mad science, love, loss, doors, hormones, and chaos! What more could you ask for? A pen, perhaps? It's a clicky pen! (Ask your kids. They'll get it!)

Seems aimed at kids.

31092600471?profile=RESIZE_192X31092600279?profile=RESIZE_192X(W/A/CA) K Lynn Smith

Amp Comics is proud to present an exciting new supernatural/fantasy series from multi-talented writer/artist K Lynn Smith. Kicking off with the first of three double-sized issues. Sawyer Ellis takes a job at the mysterious gothic mansion, the House of Lowther, believing it's just an ordinary janitorial job. But as she settles into her new role, she quickly realizes the place is not only stuck in the past but saturated in the supernatural. She might be a little over her head…

Looks interesting, although it's unlikely my LCS will have a shelf copy.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Fantagraphics, we are proud to present a series of “facsimile” editions of classic Fantagraphics comics from the company’s storied history, beginning with the one that launched a thousand ships, the very first issue of Love and Rockets Vol. I from 1982! IS TED OK #1 (of 6)

31092601081?profile=RESIZE_192X31092601286?profile=RESIZE_192X(W/A/CA) Dave Chisholm

This is a story about Ted and Sarah. Ted, isolated and paranoid, works for a mega-corporation owned by the world’s only trillionaire. He suffers from night terrors, obsessively draws the same mysterious figures again and again, all while listening to one track of music on repeat–oh, and the only “person” he ever talks to is a stray cat. His humanity is hanging by a thread. Sarah is a new arrival to the city, fighting her own demons, and her job is to remotely spy on Ted to ensure he doesn’t hurt anyone…or himself. When Ted’s mental state begins to crack, Sarah compassionately intervenes to help, and things go catastrophically wrong. IS TED OK? mashes up the paranoid existentialism of SEVERANCE with the cosmic sci-fi of AKIRA while exploring what happens when the act of help goes horribly wrong. From creator Dave Chisholm (SPECTRUM, MILES DAVIS & THE SEARCH FOR THE SOUND), Is Ted OK? is a spectacularly unpredictable yarn–each successive issue shatters the scope of the previous, all without losing its core: a search for human connection in an oppressive, paranoid world.

That second cover is an image I've seen before, multiple times.

VINCENT VAN GOGH: SADNESS WILL LAST FOREVER TP

31092601655?profile=RESIZE_192X(W) Francesco Barilli (A/CA) Sakka

A gorgeously rendered, emotional exploration of the life and death of one of the most famously tormented painters in human history. Through an emotional dialogue between Vincent and his own madness, the artist revisits the most significant loves and losses of his short life. From his tender and tumultuous relationship with his brother Theo, to the famous quarrel with Gauguin that resulted in the self-mutilation of his ear, to the extreme act of self-harm that led to his death, Vincent Van Gogh channeled an extraordinary light as bright today as it was upon his death in 1890. Now in print for the first time in English, Van Gogh: Sadness is Forever casts its own light onto the darkest shadows of the painter's life and inspirations.

If Van Gogh had gotten the mental health care he needed, would he still have painted all those masterpieces?

31092602469?profile=RESIZE_192X(W) Kathryn Heil (A/CA) Heath Heil

New from Antarctic Press! The Order of Saint Sophia has protected the kingdom of Toulon for 500 years. Now, the holy sisterhood of assassins is being forcibly disbanded--and Sister Amelia Redhand is to blame. She and her fellow assassins are placed under guard to ensure their peaceful reintegration into polite society. But not all of Amelia’s sisters are willing to go quietly.

Are there any nuns left in fiction who aren't assassins, sex workers and/or vampire kllers and are just, you know, nuns?

Oh, is that what it is? (I was wondering.) I was planning to buy it anyway because I don't have that one.

Say what? Does that mean the HC I ordered of New History for my bookshelf will be incomplete? Dirty trick, DC!

I don't think so. This is more of a "Milestone" thing than a "New History" thing. (Still a dirty trick, though.)

DC FINEST: THE DEMON — BIRTH OF THE DEMON TP: I have this in too many formats already. Reprint something new, DC.

This goes beyond the Kirby stuff, Cap. It also reprints stories from The Batman Family #17, The Brave and the Bold #109 & 137, Detective Comics #482-485 and Wonder Woman #280-282. Most of that (with the exception of the three Ditko stories) has not been to the best of my knowledge. In any case, it will be nice to have it all between two covers. I find myself looking foward to this DCF, and have already started a THREAD in anticipation (but I've glossed over the Kirby stuff because, as you say, it's already been reprinted (and discussed here) multiple times already.

JOKER: THE BRONZE AGE OMNIBUS HC: We don't need this, because we've got Jeff of Earth-J!

    Aw, shucks!

HULK: SMASH EVERYTHING (2025) #3: Tradewaiting, but losing interest.

I read the first issue, then dropped it. REMINDER: I warned you against the recent Alan Scott Green Lantern and you failed to take my advice.

    INGLORIOUS X-FORCE (2026)

I have frequently commented on the adjectives in recent Marvel titles, but this is possibly the the worst one yet. In my dictionary, "inglorious" is defined as "causing shame or a loss of honor." Or is it like THIS?

    KNULL (2026) #1

    ...and void?

Eventually Disney will be on my streamer rotation and I can watch Predator: Badlands. I hear good things.

They should start a reality show pitting illegal immigrants against people in the Epstein files. They could call it "Aliens vs. Predators."

I looked for a preview to brighten Jeff's day, but it appears Image doesn't provide them for Skybound books.

Eh, that's all right. I never look at previews of books I plan to buy in the first place.

I think you made plenty of comments this week (regardless of you actually had time to or not).
