This is the one where Bane broke Batman's back. I honestly disliked this story, because having your back broken isn't something you can exercise or Bat-gimmick your way out of. This should have ended Batman's career, and when it didn't, I had a hard time holding my suspension of disbelief.

Why do you suppose this issue was picked for the facsimile treatment? I don't mind — I loved the Edmond Hamilton/Curt Swan World's Finest stories as a kid, and this gives me all kinds of warm fuzzies. But if they were going to do a Silver Age WFC, why not World's Finest Comics #140? That had the Matt Hagen Clayface, who's got his own movie! In "The Clayface Superman!" Hagen got all of Superman's powers (somehow) when he copied him. It didn't make much sense, and it was by Dave Wood and Jim Mooney instead of Hamilton/Swan, but it posed quite a challenge to the World's Finest team, or that's what six-year-old me thought, anyway.

I imagine most comics fans have read enough about this series that this new team isn't much of a surprise. I will say that I wondered, when I saw this lineup, what Captain Marvel needed the rest of them for. Now I've read that she's been nerfed (she can't even fly), so she's on a par with, say, Luke Cage. But then I read that there's a surprise sixth member: Miracleman. And what does HE need the rest of them for? I imagine it's going to be like early 1960s Avengers, where everybody had to fight the strongest member. (Which was the Hulk at first, and then Thor a couple of times.) Maybe Miracleman could fight Sentry, and the rest could go out for pizza until it's over.

I wanted Mary Jane free of the symbiote, so she could go back to where I think she works best — as a character who pulls Peter Parker toward a normal life. With villains and responsibilities pulling the other way, MJ's presence creates an unsolvable tension for the web-spinner. Plus, she represents what he's fighting for.
I don't know if that's what's happening here, but a boy can hope. At least Venom has gone back to his own title, where I can easily ignore him.

I joked a few weeks ago that with 12 assassins in the Exquisite Corpses series, they could do 12 origin stories of characters who were mostly dead. (I assume they were mostly dead, since the premise of the story was that they were going to murder each other in a tournament until there was only one left. But I didn't read it, so maybe they teamed up instead.) Now I'm beginning to think we really are going to get 12 origin stories.

I've been tempted by these manga interpretations of Lovecraft, and may still get them someday. But I have Dunwich Horror in various prose and comics formats already, and don't really need another version. Right now.

There's not a single member (except Captain Marvel) who belongs on this team AFAIAC. It's like The New Avengers #1 all over again. I'll probably buy it just to see how bad it is, so if anyone else here was thinking of buying it for the same reason, you needn't bother. I've gotcha covered.
I have no idea why this is at Dark Horse.
I don't know, either, but Dark Horse has been releasing better "Marvel" comics recently than Marvel comics has.
I wonder if they lowered Carol Danvers' powers to hype up Miracleman?
I know that I've seen Kushala before, but I don't remember where.
For me, characters like the Punisher don't work in a "super-hero" universe. The first bullet-proof super-human that decides to take him down will take him down.
