BATMAN BEYOND: NEO-GOTHIC #1
Story: Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing | Art/Cover: Max Dunbar | Variants: Christian Ward, Ejikure, Belén Ortega, Dike Ruan | $4.99/$5.99 (card stock)
Terry McGinnis defeated the evil A.I. controlling Neo-Gotham and asserted himself as the one true Batman, but his next battle will bring him to the remains of Old Gotham. Children are going missing and being swallowed by the city’s old bones. Batman Beyond will have to go underground, led by a mysterious splicer named Kyle the Catboi, to find the children and confront the city’s buried sins. What happened to the green of the city? What happened to magic? And what villains never left old Gotham? All these questions will be answered by the red-hot creative team of Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing (Batman: One Bad Day — Clayface, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty) and Max Dunbar (Batman: Urban Legends).
Lots of folks are big "Beyond" fans, and there was a push for a "Beyond" movie, by Kevin Smith, Michael Uslan and others. But Ive always felt he was more Spider-Man than Batman, and I already had one of each. (Actually, several.) So I'd rather read Batman and Amazing Spider-Man. YMMV.

Oh dang — I gotta do another one of these this month? Batman and I are joined by … Wesley Dodds, the Sandman?! What the heck? I thought I was the only dead person allowed in this story. I guess not! We uncover one of Wesley’s oldest cases, which haunted him until the day he died — and it points us in the direction of the Nightmare Stone. But Insomnia has unleashed his own army to hunt us down … the Sleepless Knights. And this issue is their first appearance, kids! Get scared!
My introduction to Wesley Dodds was the Fox/Sekowsky Justice League/Justice Society crossovers, and clearly Fox had no idea what to do with him, except to turn him into another punchy character. So I was unmoved. But I loved Sandman Mystery Theatre, which needs an ominbus, please.

Can Superboy, Kong Kenan, and the Steel family find the twins in time to save them, or will they join his bloody list of victims?

Or perhaps it’s a nightmare, but if you die in it, you can die in real life as well.

Eisner Winner David F. Walker's Latest Character Study!
Fans first got to meet Victoria Harris in the history-marking and making Vampirella #0 on Free Comic Book Day in 2019, as Christopher Priest teed up his continuing, celebrated tenure on the franchise. Now with her very own powers, costume, and storylines, VICTORY is breaking into her own series for the first time! Eisner-winning scribe David F. Walker (Power Man & Iron Fist, Bitter Root, Naomi) is taking her on a thrilling journey in the present, while diving deep into her origins as well! Fans won't want to miss the scintillating second issue!
As if being cursed with the ring of the demon Belial wasn't bad enough for Victory, now she's being chased by demons who want the very same ring that she can't get rid of - making for unpleasant irony and lots of that brimstone smell. Speaking of smell, Victory is escorted to the P.U. (Purgatory Department — no, not that Purgatori) by her new colleagues, Lucy Fuhr and Gaye Briel. There, she gets some face-to-face time with the big boss himself — the Devil!

Story: Mirka Andolfo | Art: Laura Braga | Covers: Braga, Mirka Andolfo, Peach Momoko, Maika Sozo | $3.99
Harvey Award winning superstar Mirka Andolfo (known for her comics Unnatural, Mercy and Sweet Paprika, alongside her work with DC and Marvel) and fan-favorite illustrator Laura Braga (artist of Harley Quinn, Future State: the Next Batman and Witchblade) team up for the first time to bring Purr Evil to life! Purr Evil will launch from Image Comics this July in the United States, and will be released simultaneously in Italy (Star Comics); France and Belgium (Dupuis); and Spain, Argentina and Chile (Moztros).
Purr Evil is The Last of Us meets Hit-Girl and Léon: The Professional in a six-issue miniseries with high-adrenaline content, and is a new adventure comic produced by Arancia Studio, the Italian creative atelier which worked on Andolfo’s bestselling Image Comics titles and many successful books.
“I’m very excited to see this new comic come to life,” said Adolfo. “And, even more to have my friend Laura with me to work on such a great and fulfilling project, as well as Bryan Valenza, our colorist, Fabio Amelia, our letterer, and the whole team at Arancia Studio! I can’t wait to find out what the fans think of our new madness, and I’m enormously grateful to Image Comics and the other international partners for believing in our crazy project. We are sure fans will love it, too!”
The story will explore an unusual mother-daughter relationship, seasoned with horror and urban fantasy elements. Can the bond of the two women overcome a life built on blood and lies? What secret is lurking in the Morando family’s apartment?
Purr Evil tells the story of Rita, a young mother forced by the mistakes of her dark past to become a ruthless, cold-blooded killer, in order to defend her daughter Deb from the endless evil that looms over her. In a world on the brink of doom, the unconditional love between mother and daughter must overcome every barrier and every misunderstanding alongside blood, sweat, tears, and a tremendous lot of malevolent kittens.

BRZRKR: POETRY OF MADNESS #1
Story: Keanu Reeves, Steve Skroce | Art/Cover: Steve Skroce | BOOM | Mature | $9.99
A sea of gore and devastation awaits as B, through a fateful chance encounter, safeguards the advanced and ancient realm of Atlantis as its unstoppable protector.
But a sickly king serves as a symbol for the rot inside, as the security and bliss created through B's violence is shallow... The cracks created by a secret cult might spell a monstrous end for the legendary city, one beyond even B's ability to save.
Renowned filmmaker and record-shattering comic creator Keanu Reeves joins acclaimed writer and artist Steve Skroce (Doctor Strange) for a one-shot special that fans of Lovecraftian horror would be mad to miss!
- You knew there would be a sequel. And I'll be shocked if there isn't a movie someday. Starring Keanu Reeves, naturally.

CHARM CITY #1
Story: Josh Eiserike | Art: Scott Van Domelen- artist | Colors: Lorenzo Palombo | Editor: Joshua Malkin | Scout | $4.99
A serial killer stalks the streets of modern-day Baltimore — but what the police don't know is all of the victims are witches, part of an underground secret society living among us for centuries. And when yet another body turns up, it falls on the victim's sister — a witch who was excommunicated from the community years ago and hasn't used magic since — to use her contacts as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun to unravel the mystery and catch the killer.
The Baltimore police are baffled when a Ravens cheerleader is found floating in the Inner Harbor with an arcane symbol carved onto her corpse. And only Alyssia Singer, music blogger at the Baltimore Sun, knows what it means: that a serial killer is targeting Baltimore's underground witching community. Alyssia —an excommunicated witch who no longer uses magic —must decide: take the case and confront her estranged family and long buried demons ... or risk more bodies piling up.
"CHARM CITY is a longtime passion project of mine and bringing it to life at Scout Comics has been a dream come true! Scout has been an incredible collaborator every step of the way. Everyone I've worked with has both supported me in telling this story and contributed to it, making the book better and more special that I could have ever imagined. CHARM CITY is a very personal, very specific story that draws on my love of murder mysteries, my time working as a music journalist and grounded urban fantasy-- and Scout has been the perfect place for it!"— Josh Eiserike
"Tense, terrifying and unexpectedly emotional, CHARM CITY delivers. Like Alyssia's soundtrack, this story rocks." — legendary showrunner Julie Plec (creator of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, THE ORIGINALS, LEGACIES and many, many more).
- It also annoys me that everyone's always out to kill witches. Seems to me they'd be handy to have around. But they're women with power, and we know how some men feel about that.

THE COMPLETE PEANUTS 1987-1988: VOL. 19
Story/Art: Charles M. Schulz | Fantagraphics | 344 pages | $22.99
In this latest paperback volume of Peanuts, romance is in the air: Charlie Brown’s flirtatious winking in class sends him to the school nurse, Linus’s attempts to woo “Lydia” of the many names are met with mockery — and Peppermint Patty and Marcie’s fierce quarrel over which one of them “Charles” likes the best. Other storylines include Snoopy’s stay in the hospital for a hockey-related knee injury — until everyone realizes that dogs don’t have knees, Patty’s campaign to be her school’s “May Queen,” Sally’s rocky career as a playwright, and Snoopy’s “kiss-and-tell” book. Plus, fan-favorites Lucy, Rerun, Spike ... and Snoopy’s feathered Beagle Scouts!
The Complete Peanuts is the publishing project that launched a renaissance in comic strip publishing and the only place Charles M. Schulz’s classic has ever been collected in its entirety. ERNIE IN KOVACSLAND: WRITINGS, DRAWINGS AND PHOTOGRAPHS FROM TELEVISION'S ORIGINAL GENIUS
Josh Mills, Ben Model, Pat Thomas | Fantagraphics | 284 pages | $34.99
Ernie Kovacs inspired countless comedians, musicians, humorists, and writers in the latter half of the 20th century and beyond. He is cited as a direct influence by the creators and stars of such innovative comedy series as Saturday Night Live, Monty Python, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. An award in his name has been granted to uproarious humorists like Amy Sedaris (Strangers with Candy) and Harry Shearer (This is Spinal Tap). A true visionary, Kovacs's iconoclastic approach has forever made its mark on the world of comedy. In celebration of this cockeyed genius and his prolific creative output, Fantagraphics presents a career retrospective of Ernie Kovacs featuring never-before-seen material from Kovacs's archive.
- I have only the vaguest idea of who Ernie Kovacs is. I assume much of his work, being from the early days of television, did not survive.

A botched road heist results in a fatal school bus crash that sets in motion events within the underground community that can only be described as massively inconvenient.
At the center of the gruesome happening is 'The Slav with No Remorse' …TRAKOVI! A Slovenian thug taking on light contract work in the Northern Canadian City of Edmonton. His involvement and shocking decision made during the happening has put into motion events that not only affects himself, but those closest to him as they all strive for a somewhat 'better' life. The harrowing affair also introduces the barbarous WENDY, who brings ferocious retribution and a shocking revelation that will leave TRAKOVI and YOU the reader in absolute shock!
Each chapter in this 5 part series titled 'BLIND FAITH' ends with a massive cliff-hanger that will leave you speechless and clamoring for the next installment!
“Being given the privilege of having been accepted into the SCOUT COMICS family is just that, a privilege,” Koleric said. “As a Creator you devote a substantial amount of time into producing a book that does not guarantee you an audience, response or eyes of a Publisher. So to have one who puts out personal favorite titles like IT EATS WHAT FEEDS IT, GRIT and MULLET COP, then gives you the call to join this roster is absolutely everything. SCOUT to me is a true Publisher for Independents and one that I will promote as much as I can. If they believed in me, then I'll believe in them.”

WORLD OF BETTY & VERONICA JUMBO COMICS DIGEST #27
I have only the vaguest idea of who Ernie Kovacs is. I assume much of his work, being from the early days of television, did not survive.
My Dad was a big fan of Kovacs. His stuff was re-run on our local PBS station for a few years when I was a kid. I remember finding it mildly amusing, though it's possible that a lot of it went over my juvenile head.
"But I loved Sandman Mystery Theatre, which needs an ominbus, please."
You're probably going to have to content yourself with "Compendium One" (introduction by Patton Oswalt), It's a softcover but which comprises #1-36 + Annual #1.
"KNIGHT TERRORS"
Sound about as interesting to me as if it were titled "bed-wetters."
FIRE POWER BY KIRKMAN & SAMNEE #25: "Fire Power will return with a double-sized 44-page story picking up where the previous arc’s shocking finale left off."
If you're not reading Fire Power, this may be the opportunity to rectify your error. The solicitation doesn't say "Good jumping on point," but I'd take it for granted if I were you. Image publishes two of my current favorite comics, and this is one of them.
CAPTAIN AMERICA BY TA-NEHISI COATES OMNIBUS HC
I haven't read any of this run. As Cap aften says, "Legionarres, talk me into it!"
"That hand may have come from the cover of Fantastic Four #244."
...which in turn came from the splash page of the Lee/Kirby Silver Surfer graphic novel.
It's also very much a "Dark Shadows" thing.
"The plural of Femme Fatale is Femmes Fatale. I'm not buying anything from a writer that doesn't know basic spelling."
Try ordering X number "tacos supreme" and see what happens. I guarantee you the response will be, "X tacos?" While I'm thinking of it, there's a burger chain whose employees are directed to ask, "Will you be enjoying that in your car?" when you order at the drive-thru window. The first time that happened to me, I had no idea what they were asking. I responded, "I'm plan drive to the window and pick it up." [What they were really asking was, "Will you be eating that in your car?" in which case they give you a placemat or something. My answer to that question is, "Hell, no! I'm going to drive home and then eat it." (I do not allow food to be consumed in my car.)

When I was in junior high school, I became a huge fan of Groucho Marx and began watching You Bet Your Life every weekday night on my local PBS affiliate. Following that was Ernie Kovacs, and I began watching that, too. Ernie Kovacs was absolutely brilliant. Anyone looking at his show for the first time today might not be impressed, unless he had the ability to put the show in its proper historical context. Otherwise, today's first-time viewer might dismiss it as something he's already seen before. It's like people who dismiss Orson Welles' Citizen Kane or (to use a comic book example) Alan Moore's Miracleman. Several years ago I stopped buying biographical comics (although I recently pre-order one about Jimi Hendrix by Mike Royer), and I probably won't buy this one. But, if you ever have the opportunity to cath an episode of his TV show, you should give it a look. It's not so much laugh-out-loud funny as it is thought-provoking... at least that's how I remember it. Some of it was silly, I admit, but the word that describes it best is experimental.
MACBETH GN
I don't know. Shakespeare doesn't usually translate well into comics form (in my experience). However, I really liked Tom Mandrakes version of Hamlet, and Macbeth is one of my favorite plays so we'll see. (I didn't pre-order it, so my LCS may not even get one in.)

It didn't air in my area in my youth. Or in my adulthood. As I said, I only have a general knowledge of Kovacs, because I've never seen any of his work. It looks like there's some on Roku (possibly) for free, so I'll ejjimicate myself.

Hardback or death! Seriously, I try to restrict myself to HCs of essential material. I enjoyed Sandman Mystery Theatre, but not enough to give up precious bookshelf space to a paperback.

Which I have, and did not remember. Thanks!
