ABSOLUTE GREEN ARROW #1 (OF 6)

31150988071?profile=RESIZE_192X(W) Pornsak Pichetshote (A/CA) Rafael Albuquerque

WITHOUT THE TRICK ARROWS … WITHOUT THE MONEY … WITHOUT MERCY … WHAT'S LEFT IS THE ABSOLUTE HUNTER! A serial killer is slaughtering corrupt billionaires. The only clue to his identity is the mysterious green arrows sticking out of his victims' corpses. Executive protection specialist Dinah Lance, a.k.a. Absolute Black Canary, is one of the people tasked to uncover this murderer's identity as she investigates her suspects ... all familiar DC archers uniquely linked to a recently murdered Oliver Queen. I Know What You Did Last Summer for billionaires, Absolute Green Arrow reimagines the Emerald Archer's mythos into a dangerous, urban horror murder-mystery by Eisner winners Pornsak Pichetshote (Dead Boy Detectives, Infidel) and Rafael Albuquerque (Detective Comics, American Vampire).

I'm assuming they'll go with Connor Hawke or one of the female archers, since they have the opportunity here to break up the Straight White Male club (and the covers are avoiding anything that would indicate race or gender). Although it's possible that Carter Hall isn't really as awful as he seems, and is secretly saving the people he says he's killed. In which case, Ollie Queen can still make an appearance.

ELSEWORLDS: SUPERMAN OMNIBUS VOLUME 1 HC

31150986453?profile=RESIZE_192X(W) Various (A) Various (CA) Mike Mignola

Written by Neal Barrett Jr., Jon Bogdanove, Kurt Busiek and Others Art by Dusty Abell, Eduardo Barreto, Frank Gomez and Others See the Man of Tomorrow in a whole new light in this omnibus series collecting classic Elseworlds tales from Superman: Speeding Bullets #1, Superman: The Man of Steel Annual #3 and #5, Superman Annual #6 and #8, Steel Annual #1, Adventures of Superman Annual #6 and #8, Superboy Annual #1 and #3, Action Comics Annual #6 and #8, Superman: Kal #1, Superman: At Earth’s End #1, Supergirl Annual #1, Superman/Wonder Woman: Whom Gods Destroy #1-4, Superman’s Metropolis #1, Superman: Distant Fires #1, and Superman: The Dark Side #1-3.

I was hoping this would include Superman: Red Son, because I still don't have that in HC. In fact, I've never seen it in HC except for the grossly overpriced 2025 edition ($70.00). Which makes me wonder if Mark Millar has a contract that awards him so much of the profit from a hardback reprint that DC is reluctant to release one. Because otherwise DC is leaving money on the table.

I'll probably still buy this, just to get all those Elseworlds in one place. It'd be nice to have a single place to reference when I want to look up one of them. Besides, I have about half of them in TPB and that would clear some space!

DC Finest: Sgt. Rock: The Rock of Easy Co. celebrates the legacy of this classic hero and his creators Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert with this volume collecting Sgt. Rock's first appearance in G.I. Combat #68 and his subsequent lead stories in Our Army at War #81-122.

As Jeff of Earth-J points out, if you've got the Sgt. Rock Showcase or Archives collections, you've probably read all these stories before. Which I do, and I have. I'm tempted to get it anyway, in case there are more DC Finest volumes to come. There certainly won't be any more Showcase or Archives editions.

INTRODUCING THE NEW FUTURE FOUNDATION!

The Invincible Woman has been defeated ... but what comes next? And how can the Fantastic Four be ready for it, especially when they can't actually agree on what the future looks like? And to make matters worse, Doom's technology is now making its way into the world at large — including into the hands of two-bit criminals who are wholly unprepared for its awesome might! PLUS: The Future Foundation makes its return — as does a two-story A.I.M. plot of destruction from years ago! And all this happens as the Fantastic Four have their hands full ... with the return of THE CRIMEASAURUS REX!

“This is our first really big story in the run — contrasting with the usual single issues (which we are still doing!) - and of course, bringing a story like that in for a landing is really satisfying,” North shared. “I think it leaves Sue in a really interesting place.  And of course, the Fantastic Four have encountered (and been pitched!) different versions of what a new Future Foundation could look like — and what they land on is exciting.”

In addition, FANTASTIC FOUR #11 will include a special bonus story by award-winning writer and artist, Stan Sakai. The Usagi Yojimbo creator will deliver an unforgettable showdown between Fantastic Four and one of their most iconic supervillains, Mole Man.

I've enjoyed Ryan North's FF all along, and the Invincible Woman story was certainly a highlight. So I'm still on board. I've never enjoyed any prior Future Foundation stories (the ones with a paficist Dragon Man and Moloid heads in jars were just boring), so fingers crossed that North will make me a believer.

ULTIMATE IMPACT: REBORN #1 (OF 5)

Written by CHRIS CONDON

Art by STEFANO CASELLI

FALLOUT FROM ULTIMATE ENDGAME!

Miles Morales returned from the Ultimate Universe with a plan: safeguard the Origin Boxes — catalysts for the creation of new super heroes — before they fall into the wrong hands! But the secret is out as Miles’ battle over the boxes engulfs the entire Marvel Universe! Witness the creation of stunning and unforgettable new characters on both sides of a conflict that will shape the future of the 616!

"I am so excited to be a part of this book and to be working with this fantastic team,” Condon shared. “To be able to play with the idea of these universes colliding in a truly unique and interesting way like this, and to have the opportunity to create new and lasting creations within them — both characters and settings — is a dream for any creator in this industry. I'm having so much fun working on this book with artist Stefano Caselli and Editor Tom Groneman. I hope that shines through when readers pick up their copies of what I think will be an exciting new piece of the Marvel Universe."

I can't say I'm really thrilled by the prospect of more variants of existing characters. How many Spider-people do we have currently? More importantly, how many of them sell well enough to support a monthly book? Maybe I'm just feeling cynical because this looks like a back-door way to continue the Ultimate universe, which Marvel said it wasn't going to do.

THE EXPLOSIVE FINALE LAUNCHES THE MARVEL UNIVERSE INTO ARMAGEDDON!

All of the pieces are falling together — PRIMEWARRIOR’s attempt to create the next great super-soldier has brought together some of the past’s greatest successes, from Wolverine to Nuke to David Colton, A.K.A. CAPTAIN AMERICA! As the final puzzle piece clicks into place, the stage is set for the next AVENGERS epic and Wolverine must make a choice that will have ramifications for the entire Marvel Universe …

This is the last prologue issue before "Armageddon." I applaud Marvel for restraining themselves to only two "prologue" titles (the other is Captain America). Other event have had so many lead-ins and tie-ins that it's difficult to figure out where to start.

TRAPPED IN MEMORIES!

The cursed sword Dáinsleif plans to take every bit of Moonstar, from heart to soul. As the sentient sword combs through Dani’s memories, what secrets will it unlock? And will Dani wake up before it’s too late?!

In Norse mythology, Dáinsleif means "Dáinn's legacy" or "Dáinn's heirloom" and was the cursed sword of the Danish King Högni. Every time it was drawn, it had to kill a man (or woman, I suppose). Any wound it inflicted could never heal. Dáinn is Old Norse for "dead one" or "deceased," and is a mystical figure in Norse mythology that appears in many forms, including a dwarf who forged the sword. Usually it appears as a stag grazing on Yggdrasil's leaves.

If this is to become a permanent thing for Moonstar, I will not complain. Since her debut, she's had the worst power set of any New Mutant. It's not often visual, it's hard to explain and it's not usually very effective. She has always needed an upgrade, which is why, I suspect, Marvel keeps throwing Valkyrie heritage, winged horses and magic swords her way. Where's a secondary mutation when you need one?

Since a field squad of Melee, Jitter and Laura Kinney accompanied Captain America on a covert mission to right a wrong from his past, nothing has gone as planned, and the squad meets their match with a mutant foe who might not ever let them get home. Meanwhile, a shadow descends over Graymatter Lane ... and the Beast and Magneto have an explosive difference of opinion!

I read that one of the Beasts, the original Hank McCoy who was one of the original X-Men, is going to become the X-Men's arch-foe. The Magneto or Mr. Sinister of our day, if you will. He'll have all-white fur, presumably to distinguish from Young Beast (time-displaced Hank McCoy and current X-Man) and Age of Apocalypse Beast (wherever he is).

ODIN #1 (OF 9)

31092733670?profile=RESIZE_192X31092733894?profile=RESIZE_192XFive-time Eisner Award-winning writer James Tynion IV (The Department of Truth, Something is Killing the Children, Exquisite Corpses) is teaming up with dynamo co-writer Marguerite Bennett (Witchblade, Mommy Blog), rising star artist Letizia Cadonici (House of Slaughter), multiple Eisner Award winning colorist Jordie Bellaire (The Nice House on the Lake, Assorted Crisis Events), high-flying letterer Tom Napolitano (Red Book), top-notch designer Dylan Todd (The Department of Truth), and horror mastermind editor Steve Foxe (Razorblades) for an all-new horror tale in the upcoming Odin.

"Marguerite and I have been talking about this story for years,” said Tynion. “It all started as a text conversation about a group of white supremacists we'd seen a story about online, talking about their faith in Odin, and then we started talking about what the real norse Odin would do with these idiots if he had the chance. It felt pretty immediately clear that there was a mean and brutal horror story in it and we wanted to tell it together."

Odin follows Adela, a thrill-seeking journalist who goes undercover to report on a band of Neo-Nazis. She will do anything for the perfect story, including heading into the frozen forests of Norway with Neo-Nazi punks who seek Odin to achieve their promised white supremacist destiny. But what awaits them in the woods is far older and stranger than any of them can comprehend, and no gods are coming to answer their prayers. Green Room meets Midsommar with a touch of The Ritual in this relentless hallucinogenic thriller that leaves absolutely no taboo unbroken.

Bennett added: “The plain truth is I hope it fucks people up, ups their pucker factor, puts ice in the pit of their stomach. The dread, doom, and desolation is truly unrelenting. We are on a death march through the frozen bowels of the ninth hell. If you've been feeling burned out or jaded, I hope this is the needle that pierces to the core: the injection that opens your senses back up to the wonder and horror of God.”

"Working with the Tiny Onion team is just wonderful. I'm so lucky to be on this journey with these amazing people,” said Cadonici. “And working on James and Marguerite's script is extremely easy, which is how you understand that they are great writers. They've created an incredible cast of characters, each with their own personality, and I'm having a blast bringing out the essence of each of them."

That's a killer creative team, and they're diving into my favorite mythology. (Which, TBH, has a lot of really unsavory parts to modern eyes — which hopefully like they'll be exploring.) It looks like our old pal Dáinn has wandered over from Moonstar #3 to join Cover C, and surely that's Yggdrasil on Cover D. That's Odin himself on Cover E, showing why one of his many descriptions is The Hanged God. I'll be reading this one, and hopefully reporting back on what I read.

ROCKETFELLERS #0

31092736658?profile=RESIZE_710xWHO ARE THE UNBELIEVABLES? GHOST MACHINE’S FIRST CROSSOVER EVENT LAUNCHES THIS MAY

The extraordinary has always been here... Now it has a name

31092736885?profile=RESIZE_192X31151416457?profile=RESIZE_192XImage Comics/Ghost Machine will formally unveil THE UNBELIEVABLES this May. This rebranding and expansion of one of Ghost Machine’s four original universes—formerly known as FAMILY ODYSSEYS—will be anchored by the critically acclaimed ongoing series The Rocketfellers by Peter J. Tomasi and Francis Manapul and Hornsby & Halo by Tomasi and Peter Snejbjerg. Joining The Unbelievables Universe will be The Trillion Dollar Kid by Geoff Johns, Tomasi, and Stefano Simeone.

To mark the unveiling of THE UNBELIEVABLES, both The Rocketfellers and Hornsby & Halo will release special issue #0s in May—prologues to the event as well as standalone entry points designed to welcome new readers while revealing secrets for longtime fans.

Then in June those worlds collide as the four-part crossover event “WHO ARE THE UNBELIEVABLES?” which begins introducing several major new characters joining the line, including The Trillion Dollar Kid. Created by Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi, and Francis Manapul, The Trillion Dollar Kid serves as both a guide and catalyst—linking characters, stories, and lore as the true scope of THE UNBELIEVABLES begins to reveal itself.

“A boy has discovered there are extraordinary beings among us … a family from the future living in the present, two teenagers destined to rule heaven and hell, and many, many more,” said Johns, writer and Ghost Machine co-founder. “A 13-year-old boy the world has dubbed ‘The Trillion Dollar Kid’ — the world’s first trillionaire — is secretly tracking these miracles hiding in plain sight. He calls them ‘The Unbelievables.’ Why he’s searching for them, who else is out there, and what threat aims to corrupt them all will be revealed in our first GHOST MACHINE CROSSOVER EVENT: WHO ARE THE UNBELIEVABLES?”

Manapul added: “We get our first look at Thomas Noble Townsend III — The Trillion Dollar Kid — and the new characters of The Unbelievables in both #0 issues. Tommy widens the lens. Through him, the readers will begin to see just how vast this universe truly is.”

Driven by the Trillion Dollar Kid’s search for the one thing money can’t buy, the four-part “WHO ARE THE UNBELIEVABLES?” brings together the Rocketfeller family, Rose Hornsby, and Zachary Halo in an incredible adventure while laying the foundation for what comes next.

“We’re continuing the stories of The Rocketfellers and Hornsby & Halo,” said Tomasi. “But this crossover kicks open the doors wider — revealing new characters and new corners of this universe that have been waiting in the wings since we launched our titles in 2024.”

Among those being introduced are The Deadtones, a rock band of misfit monsters on the run; The Curious Creatures of Dr. Moreau, because sometimes life needs to get a little wild; Jean Genie, a genie finally free from her endless existence of servitude and now coming to grips with what freedom means in the modern world; and a whole lot more, as seen on the newly revealed UNBELIEVABLES map.

“One of the joys of Ghost Machine is the true collaboration in the creation of our characters and universes,” said Snejbjerg. “Each Unbelievable has a unique place within our growing library of characters.”

Eh, I don't care for the "lighter" Ghost Machine books, like The Rocketfellers and Halo & Hornsby. I had assumed that most of these books were launched in different universes and/or different imprints because of the mis-matched tones and time periods. But lo, they're going to cross over anyway. I'll give it a try, but I'm not expecting much.

The series spins off from the Eisner Award-nominated comic book anthology based on Greg Nicotero’s Shudder TV series produced and licensed by Evoke Entertainment Company. BARRIER: THE COLLECTED EDITION TP

31134746085?profile=RESIZE_400xFrom the Eisner Award winning team behind The Private Eye, Brian K. Vaughan (Spectators, Pride of Baghdad, Saga) and Marcos Martín (Friday) explore a shockingly prescient drama about violence, language, and illegal immigration in Barrier. This Harvey Award winning story presents readers with some of the most provocative, hard-hitting topics of our day through a spectacular sci-fi twist. It will be available in trade paperback from Image Comics this Spring.

When the lives of Texas rancher Liddy and Honduran immigrant Óscar collide at the U.S.-Mexico border, neither can understand the other’s words, but both are forced to rely on trust when they’re thrust into an unimaginable encounter.

Told in English and Spanish without translation, Barrier is a visually stunning, emotionally fraught tale that explores the walls we build between nations, cultures, and each other. Collected for the first time in its original "widescreen" format—and perfectly complementing Image's new paperback edition of The Private Eye — this gorgeous new edition collects the complete miniseries originally published digitally on Panel Syndicate and then in single issues in 2018.

Select praise for Barrier:

“Marcos Martín is one of the best artists in comics, and Barrier is an outstanding spotlight for his storytelling skills.” — The AV Club

“Stands out as a genuinely significant story for its time.” — ComicBook.com

“Provocative and challenging, this work rewards patient readers and will make a good addition to graphic novel collections interested in socially engaged, formally inventive storytelling.” — Library Journal (Starred Review)

“Barrier is a science fiction comic that America needs right now.” — io9

“This book comes highly recommended. Give it a read.” — Bleeding Cool

“A fascinating mix of topical immigration issues, drug cartels, and something wholly unexpected.” — Newsarama

“Barrier successfully blends a story about immigration, language, and violence into a sci-fi package. It’s a must-read.” — ComicsVerse

Looks interesting enough to at least sample, as it's by Brian K. Vaughan, forever enshrined in my comic book hall of fame for Pride of Baghdad. But, alas, Image didn't send a review copy.

OF THE EARTH #1 (OF 6)

31091528679?profile=RESIZE_192X31091528490?profile=RESIZE_192XLegendary artist Charlie Adlard (The Walking Dead, Heretic, Altamont) joins co-writers Chris Condon (That Texas Blood) and Andrew Ehrich, colorist Pip Martin (Everything Dead & Dying), letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (Assorted Crisis Events), and designer Mike Tivey (News from the Fallout) for his triumphant return to single issue storytelling in this neo-noir-tinged eco-horror Of the Earth.

“I’ve always wanted to work with Chris for a long time, ever since I was aware of his collaborations with Jake Phillips,” said Adlard. “And finally I got my wish with a brilliant atmospheric horror tale with an eco twist. It’s the best type of story for me—full of atmosphere and great characters. Plus I get the pleasure of working with Pip, Hassan, Andrew, and Michael.”

Tabitha 'Tabby' Black flees a sordid life for her quiet hometown of Solitude, Texas and the comfort of her Gramma's home where she was raised. Only home isn't what it once was. ... and neither is Gramma.

Condon added: “Charlie Adlard is a legend in the comic book industry and I have the utmost confidence that his name alone lends this book credibility—and with good reason. Still, what makes this book special is the all-star team we've assembled. I'm honored to share a credit in this book with letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, colorist Pip Martin, designer Michael Tivey, and last but not least, my good friend and co-writer Andrew Ehrich, a newbie to the industry. Of The Earth is an atmospheric, terror-soaked excursion into the unknown; an eco-horror story with a suspenseful neo-noir tinge. It's John Carpenter's The Thing meets Blood Simple and I cannot wait to unleash this oil-soaked terror upon the world with Charlie and the rest of the team.”

UPDATE: I found a press release for this book and added pertinent info. I still intend to try it.

G.I. JOE #22

31087142476?profile=RESIZE_192X31087144084?profile=RESIZE_192XSkybound, Image Comics, and leading games, IP and toy company Hasbro, have announced the latest action-packed story arc in the hit Energon Universe series G.I. JOE. The creative team of writer Joshua Williamson (DC K.O.), artist  Andrea Milana (Cobra Commander), colorist Lee Loughridge (Universal Monsters: The Mummy) and letterer Rus Wooton (Invincible Universe: Battle Beast), kick off a twisted new three-issue run sure to shock fans on the road to the game changing 25th issue this summer. Find out what’s in store for the Joes and Cobra when G.I. JOE #22 arrives in comic shops May 20, 2026.

After the stunning conclusion to DREADNOK WAR, the Joes and Cobra are in a race to find Energon across the world, but Crystal Ball (making his Energon Universe first appearance) has other ideas, and some D.I.R.E. new tricks up his sleeve. And as the secret origin of G.I. Joe's most unpredictable member Risk is revealed, the future of Joe and Cobra will change forever when Baroness and Destro meet again...

"One of the things I've loved about working in the Energon Universe is that we've created a world that lets us explore the G.I. JOE mythology using different genres. And with these three issues we're taking the team into a horror story.” said writer Joshua Williamson. “We used some of those tools in the Cobra Commander mini-series two years ago, so it's awesome that we're revisiting that kind of story with Andrea Milana again! Be ready for some action-packed horror! Lots of surprises as these issues help set up the next massive storyline that hits the Energon Universe."

"This action-packed arc has it all--adventure, horror, a new villain, and the origin of Risk,” noted Executive Editor Ben Abernathy. “We have a lot of pieces coming into alignment as we build toward our epic 25th issue!”

This three-issue story arc of G.I. JOE from #22-24 includes main covers by Tom Reilly, additional open to order covers by Joshua Cassara (X-Force) & Romulo Fajardo Jr. (Wonder Woman), Ben Oliver (Vengeance of Vampirella), and incentive variants including 1:25 by Tonči Zonjić (Shadowman) and 1:50 by Andrea Milana.

Battle Beast and Prince Salaka both stand on the precipice of winning their most important battles... but who is that looming in the sky above? Fans and collectors won’t want to miss this epic throwdown for fear of being conquered by a sellout at their comic book shop.

SEVEN WIVES #1

31086954288?profile=RESIZE_192XFollowing the success of the horror imprint IDW Dark, IDW Publishing is proud to announce IDW CRIME, a line of gripping crime comic books that explore what it takes to turn a saint into a sinner and revels in the twisted, everyday acts of humans that we just can’t look away from.

"Crime has a deep, often under-celebrated history in comics, from hard-boiled noir to social thrillers that pushed the medium to be bolder, sharper, and more adult,” commented Senior Group Editor Heather Antos. “With the IDW Crime imprint, we’re honoring that legacy while giving it a modern spotlight — elevating creator-driven stories that feel urgent, character-forward, and unapologetically human. These are stories about obsession, consequence, and the ability to hold a mirror up to society, and we couldn’t be more excited to help bring them back to the forefront of mainstream comics.”

This May, the shocks begin with SEVEN WIVES from writer Zoe Tunnell (Sink Your Teeth In) and rising star artists V Gagnon and Tesslyn Bergin-Dicoi. Forty-nine witnesses, seven wives, one dead husband. … Who’s the murderer? As two detectives investigate a death at a Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints compound in remote Arizona, the dark mystery will unravel the horrors of brainwashing and deliver a compelling whodunit that will leave readers guessing until the very end.

Another interesting first issue. Image just keeps cranking out one engaging non-superhero book after another. (Skybound takes care of the superhero end, I guess.)

30 DAYS OF NIGHT DELUXE EDITION VOLUME 3 HC

31147800891?profile=RESIZE_192XAuthors Steve Niles, Kelly Sue DeConnick and Ben Templesmith
Illustrated by Justin Randall and Bill Sienkiewicz; Ben Bishop

In the waning moments of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, Stella managed to bring her vampire husband Eben back from beyond…only he came back hungry. Now, for the first time, see what happened next in Eben and Stella, which fills in the black gaps between that tale and Return to Barrow. Written by co-creator Steve Niles and Kelly Sue DeConnick with art by Justin Randall.

Then, in Red Snow from co-creator Ben Templesmith, it’s 1941. Hitler’s Operation: Silver Fox has failed, but the war on the Eastern Front drags on as the Russian winter starts to bite. British military attaché Corporal Charlie Keating observes the war from the Soviet side, making sure crucial supplies get through to aid Stalin’s front in the battle against the Nazis. With luck, he too will survive to see the end of the war. But something else is out there, and it’s not the Nazis.

In the third story, Beyond Barrow from Steve Niles and Bill Sienkiewicz, after years of attacks and several without, the citizens of Barrow have become united against random attacks on their city by the undead. Unfortunately, the same does not apply outside the town throughout the rest of the mysterious Arctic Circle. Forget everything you ever thought you knew about 30 Days of Night and return to Barrow.

All three of these stories sound interesting. The original 30 Days of Night was such a great idea, it's one that you look back on and wonder why nobody else thought of it. Say, What was in the first two "deluxe" editions? Maybe I want the set.

D4VE: IDW CLASSIC COLLECTIONS

31147803055?profile=RESIZE_192XWritten by Ryan Ferrier
Illustrated by Valentin Ramon
May 19, 2026

The perfect blend of workplace comedy, domestic drama, and sci-fi action! Collected in one pocket-sized edition for the first time, read all three volumes of the comic series!

The robots conquered earth, wiping out all life in the galaxy, but nothing changed. Prime-time TV, mortgages, traffic jams — it’s all the same. Meet D4VE, the greatest robot war hero, now a regular old desk jockey. Can something, somewhere, snap him out of this slump? Will a new presence on 34RTH ignite his long-lost spark for battle? Then, can an inconceivable blast from the past threaten not only D4VE's dwindling relationship with his son 5COTTY, but all of robot-kind itself? And D4VE for president?!

Is this any good? The art looks good. I'll try to sample it. But man, there's already so much good stuff this week!

YOUNG HELLBOY: THRILLING SKY ADVENTURES #1 (OF 4)

31087148652?profile=RESIZE_192X31087148296?profile=RESIZE_192XDH sent an advance review copy. HereLegendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is reuniting with acclaimed writer Thomas E. Sniegoski and renowned artist Craig Rousseau for a brand-new adventure from Hellboy’s youth. Written by Mignola and Sniegoski, with art from Rousseau, colors by Chris O’Halloran, and letters from Clem Robins, Young Hellboy: Thrilling Sky Adventures will be a fun-filled four-issue miniseries starring Young Hellboy and his hero Scarlett Santiago. Each issue will feature covers by Rousseau and a variant cover. Issue #1 will feature a variant cover drawn by David Hitchcock and a Blank 'Sketch Variant' cover.

Fans first met the swashbuckling airborne adventurer Scarlett Santiago in Mignola, Sniegoski, and Rousseau’s 2021 Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land, when she helped Hellboy and Professor Bruttenholm navigate an island of mysterious monsters and vampires. Now the pulp-inspired hero stars in her very own comic book, and young Hellboy is still her number one fan. In this comic adventure within a comic adventure, Scarlett Santiago may have vanquished too many villains and made too many enemies to keep a low profile on the streets anymore. To keep herself safe and defeat the bad guys who are after her, she teams up with a mysterious, feline figure who has similar goals. The new heroic duo goes toe to toe with new dastardly foes in a series that’s sure to entertain Hellboy and Hellboy’s fans alike.

“Since wrapping up the Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land, I’d been thinking about Scarlett Santiago, the Sky Devil, and how much we still didn’t know about her past adventures (before being possessed by the spirit of a giant ape god),” Explains writer Thomas E. Sniegoski. “I was hoping that there would be a way to tell some of Sky Devil’s earlier exploits, and with Thrilling Sky Adventures, we’re getting to do just that.  The whole team has excitedly returned, Mike Mignola and I coming up with the story, Craig Rousseau on art, Chris O’Halloran on colors and Clem Robins doing the lettering.  The series is coming out great, and I can’t wait for folks to be immersed in its pulpy goodness!”

“Having the opportunity to work on more Young Hellboy is an absolute treat,” says artist Craig Rousseau. “It’s fun working with some of my all time favorite creative partners to expand on the story of Scarlett Santiago, Sky Devil and introduce The Ghost Leopard. Every script gets bigger and crazier and Tom and Mike know how to write some wild pulpy adventure to expand her backstory (and getting me to draw gangsters, biplanes, wild animals, crazy monsters and so much more). Speaking of which, back to the drawing board!”

This isn't actually a Hellboy story. It's a story-within-a-story, with Hellboy reading a Thrilling Air Stories comic book as a framing device. The actual story features Scarlett Santiago, a comic book hero called "The Sky Devil," and is fictional even within this fictional universe.

VAMPIRELLA VOLUME 8 #2

31147815480?profile=RESIZE_192XWriter: Christopher Priest
Artist: Davis Goetten

"Family Plot" continues as Dracula, Lord of Vampires, faces off against Vampirella when he returns to claim Vampi's twin, Draculina, as his own daughter in an effort to prevent Draculina from again turning toward darkness and evil. Brace yourself for one hell of a Mother's Day as Vampi's Mommy Dearest, the agesless conjuress Lilith, complicates matters by inserting herself into this unholy custody battle!

Industry superstar Christopher Priest continues his years-long revered run on VAMPIRELLA and has kicked off a new era welcoming new and returning readers to jump back in. "This is an almost entirely different book. I’m really proud of this story," said Priest. "It feels like I just finally figured out how to write this character." We're still on the road to the milestone #700 as well, with huge plans brewing for it. Preorder this key release now!

Given the previous discussion here about jumping-on points, I've decided to jump on Vampi with this series. Metaphorically speaking, of course. Get your minds out of the gutter! There's no room for you here!

Marvels: The Novelization is a collaboration between Marvel and Abrams ComicArts. It is the first-ever prose adaptation of the ground breaking, award-winning 1994 comic book series by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. Written by Steve Darnall and featuring a new cover, an afterword, and full-color and black-and-white illustrations by Ross, the novelization revisits the story of photojournalist Phil Sheldon as he witnesses the rise of super humans in the Marvel Universe from the streets of New York. This literary adaptation expands on one of Marvel’s most seminal works and offers readers a new way to engage with this iconic, original story.

“Years ago, I had the immense privilege of working with Alex Ross on the story that helped to inspire Marvels—and, like a lot of people, I became a big fan of the story that Alex and Kurt Busiek told in their terrific series,” says Steve Darnall. “It's been a real pleasure working with the team at Abrams ComicArts as we take Kurt and Alex's story and present it in a way that hasn't been done before."

“Marvels: The Novelization fulfills along-held ambition I’ve had to see an even greater expansion of the original work,” comments Alex Ross. “I’m thrilled with what Steve has written and look forward to sharing what he’s done with the world. Having Eric Powell join us at Marvel Arts is a big get. He honors us with his incredible skill as a storytelling master, and having him finally do a Thor story is a match made in Asgard. The endless possibilities of Abrams ComicArts and Marvel Arts are something I am creatively fulfilled by to help books into being and through my own graphic novel ambitions.”

“With each new Marvel title, we hope to take readers into unexpected places," explains Charles Kochman. “The variety of stories and creators and formats shows the range of what is possible with this medium, and we are grateful to Marvel for their support and collaboration.”

  • How many Spider-people do we have currently?

    On Earth-J? One.

D4VE: IDW CLASSIC COLLECTIONS - Is this any good?

I read D4ve (five issues, 2015) and D4ve2 (four issues, 2015), but I skipped D4veocracy (four issues, 2017). I remember that I liked it, but I don't remember much about it. (That's not very helpful, I know.) I haven't read it since, but I probably will one day. This collects all three mini-series, but it's a "pocket-sized" edition.

The highlight of each issue is what Jeff of Earth-J has to say about it!

    Aw, shucks!

    MARVELS: THE NOVELIZATION HC

I've bought a few of these, but I seldom read them. I did read the Death of Superman one (written by Roger Stern, IIRC),  but really, what's the point?

But man, there's already so much good stuff this week!

Do you think so? It's going to be a light week for me. But I'll tell you what... if everything ships ships in May that's been solicited to ship in May, next month is going to be great! there will be at least one but sometimes two books I have really been looking forward to shipping every week of the month. This trend continues into July (mostly one book per week), except for July 15. I'm looking forward to a great summer as far as comic book reading is concerned!

  • How many Spider-people do we have currently?

I'm up to ninety-one, but I've probably missed a few.

    • Quite a few if you are not considering any symbiote hosts.

The newest addition seems to be Fred Myers, previously known as Boomerang.  He actually attempted to pass himself for Spider-Man in his first appearance as Comeback, not very long ago.
