SUMMER OF SUPERGIRL SPECIAL #1 (ONE-SHOT)

31127452055?profile=RESIZE_192X

DC’s Summer of Supergirl continues with Summer of Supergirl Special #1, a 48-page one-shot arriving June 24. This celebratory anthology brings together an all-star roster of writers and artists for a trio of stories honoring Kara Zor-El’s legacy across the DC Universe.

In the lead story by Sophie Campbell and Belén Ortega, the quiet town of Midvale is shaken when Supergirl comes face-to-face with the galactic bounty hunter Lobo. Can the Maiden of Might stand up to the Main Man? DC’s Summer of Supergirl Special also features two bonus stories — one by Mark Waid and Cian Tormey, and another by Gail Simone and Emma Kubert — each celebrating Supergirl as she resumes her rightful place as the Heir to El.

The Summer of Supergirl Special one-shot joins a growing lineup of Summer of Supergirl publishing, including the new DC Elseworlds series Supergirl: Survive, facsimile editions of Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes #23 and Lobo #1, the oversized artbook DC W.I.P.: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1, and Supergirl-themed variant covers across DC’s line.

I'll probably pick this one up for Mark Waid, if no other reason. I'm feeling like I might have made a mistake dropping Supergirl just before the current storyline. It was getting a little too YA for minute, and I have limited tolerance for coming-of-age tropes. Also, DC maintains the fiction that this is the same Supergirl who died in Crisis, so why does this young woman look and act vaguely like a teenager, and hang out with other vaguely-teen-like characters? I don't hate it, but I have to turn off parts of my brain to buy into the premise sometimes.

ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN'S GREATEST BATTLE YET!

It's Superman versus King Shazam versus Hawkman versus [REDACTED] in the greatest battle the Absolute Universe has ever seen! But who is their mystery challenger?

Hawkman is slightly more impressive in the Absolute universe, but not by much. And if he really killed Oliver Queen, there's really no coming back from that.

I don't know who [REDACTED] is, but given the hammer it's probably Steel.

ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #21

31180619082?profile=RESIZE_192X(W) Kelly Thompson (A) Dillon Snook (CA) Hayden Sherman

A HARSH REALITY COMES TO LIGHT!

Diana's worst nightmares come to light. The Hieron finds a new host. Barbara faces a harsh reality. Cale loses control.

The Big Five (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern) all have an opposite number on Jack Grimm's Justice League. That suggests that each is the ultimate foe of that hero. It's interesting, in a meta way, who those characters are. Batman's opposite number is, no surprise, The Joker. But Superman's isn't Lex Luthor — it's Ra's al Ghul! The others are sort of surprises, too: Hector Hammond, Dr. Elenore Thawne and Veronica Cale.

Hammond was a minor threat whose biggest stories (and even bigger head!) were mostly in the Silver Age. Elenore Thawne has a significant last name, but I'm not sure she even exists in our universe. And who'd have thought Veronica Cale could ever rise to be a serious threat to the Amazing Amazon?

But she's been effective behind the scenes to ruin Diana's life. Her eventual comeuppance is going to be well-earned.

The thought has crossed my mind that most of these foes might be temporary, with more dangerous and familiar replacements waiting in the wings. Seriously, an anti-Justice League without Luthor just feels B-list.

That might be reason enough for Supergirl completists to want this book. But here's another: While DC maintains the fiction that the current Supergirl is the same one who died in Crisis, in my head canon that one died with the whole pre-Crisis universe, and the current Supergirl started here, with Supergirl #0 in 2011.

CAPTAIN AMERICA (2025) #12

Art and Cover by VALERIO SCHITI
See Variant Covers

AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON spins directly out of Zdarsky and Schiti’s run of CAPTAIN AMERICA, which also kicks off a new arc in June with issue #12.

The current arc sees Captain America accompany the all-new S.H.I.E.L.D. into Latveria to maintain order in Doom’s absence. But Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, A.K.A. Red Hulk, is determined to enact revenge on Latveria, and his actions have dire repercussions, both for Captain America and the world. As the world — and a new team of Avengers — unites against Red Hulk in AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON, Captain America finds himself enlisted in a startling war against his will, serving at the behest of Victor Von Doom! Doom, not seen since his fall in last year’s "One World Under Doom," needs Cap’s help for his most ambitious plan ever in a shocking arc that continues to boldly redefine Captain America and Doctor Doom’s dynamic and serves as a key companion piece to AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON.

After S.H.I.E.L.D.’s campaign in Latveria meets a brutal and violent end, Captain America finds himself in the last place he expected to be, alongside the last person he expected to see again. Where has Victor Von Doom been since One World Under Doom, and what does he want with Steve Rogers? Find out here as everything hurtles toward ARMAGEDDON!

“I love writing Doom,” Zdarsky said. “After my first arc with him and Cap, I knew I needed them to meet again! Their dynamic is incredibly fun and this encounter will change both characters for a very long time!”

I've been getting Cap since the Latveria storyline started in #6 (and may go back and get the first five issues, which I have come to discover introduced the 9/11 Captain America, who is a player in Armageddon). But since I'm tradewaiting Avengers Armageddon, this title may soon cease to make sense by itself. I'll probably drop it at that point. Besides, I've been spoiled by Ryan North's Doctor Doom, and I'm not sure Zdarsky's version will do it for me. His Steve Rogers hasn't impressed me so far.

DOOM IS UNSINKABLE!

Doctor Doom has been sent back in time — without his armor, and without any technology, but with the only thing he's ever needed: his MIND. Unfortunately, the date he's been sent to is April 15th, 1912. The place he's been sent to is the North Atlantic. And the name of the ship he now finds himself on is the RMS Titanic. But Doom will not allow himself to be caught, and Doom will not allow himself to be destroyed. He rails against fate, determined to rewrite history— no matter what it costs him or anyone else. And now Doctor Doom faces his greatest challenge yet — and he refuses to go down with the ship.

I expect he'll push Rose off that door and take it for himself. "The world cannot be deprived of DOOM!"

X-MEN: OUTBACK #1 (OF 5)

Art by STEPHEN SEGOVIA

In the late '80s, legendary Uncanny X-Men writer Chris Claremont and superstar artist Marc Silvestri took Marvel’s Merry Mutants down under for a transformative period of the franchise known as the Outback Era. Featuring a dynamic lineup of X-Men who put the outlaw in “outlaw heroes” and bold storytelling hot enough to fan the flames of an Inferno, the Outback Era is beloved by fans, but this short-but-sweet period in X-Men history always felt full of untapped potential — until now! This June, two modern mutant masters, writer Steve Orlando (X-Men Unlimited, Sorcerer Supreme) and artist Stephen Segovia (Hellions, New Avengers) reveal an all-new saga set during this iconic era in X-MEN: OUTBACK, a five-issue retro limited series with covers by acclaimed X-Men artist Russell Dauterman.

FROM THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK!

Journey back to a time when the public believed Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Colossus, Dazzler, Havok, Psylocke and Longshot were dead. But from the shadows, these X-Men protected humanity from their Australian headquarters! But why did the team choose the Outback as their home base? How did tensions between them almost tear the team apart? And which of their old enemies threatened to expose their secret?

“It's a rare thing, something you logically don't expect, to get the chance as a creator to work in the time period that made you love a comic, a team, or a character,” Orlando shared. “For me, picking up issues where I could at flea markets and spinner racks of the late '80s and '90s, the outback was the first place I met the X-Men on the page. And they all but leapt off it! The tension, the struggle to carve out a new life, the explosive personalities ... and the NEW! It was such a bold era, enough to make me a fan for life. Now, to get to work in that time period with X-MEN: OUTBACK? That's not even something the young me would've thought possible.”

“We've got an incredible team with Stephen Segovia and Russell Dauterman—and we're cooking up stories that celebrate and elevate the era,” he continued. “And in its spirit, you'll of course be seeing some familiar faces...but just the same—there'll be all new threats, connections, and secret exes on the way!”

Good to know this period was popular with someone. I found it jarring and nonsensical. It starred some odd characters: I was never a fan of Dazzler and Longshot, and at the time Havok, Psylocke and Colossus were just cyphers to me. But maybe this series will explain to me the raison d'etre I couldn't see at the time, and I'll find a way to reappraise those stories.

ACT 4 PUBLISHING & SKYBOUND ANNOUNCE THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN BY STEVE DITKO ARTIST’S EDITION

31017145660?profile=RESIZE_192X31017145866?profile=RESIZE_192XSkybound and Image Comics, in partnership with Scott Dunbier’s Act 4 Publishing, will release one of the most-demanded Artist’s Editions ever in 2026  The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko Artist’s Edition, beginning a multi-book deal with Marvel Comics.

The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko Artist’s Edition will feature some of the most important comics in Marvel history from the incomparable titular hero’s co-creator/artist Steve Ditko including Amazing Fantasy #15 (the character’s first appearance) and Amazing Spider-Man #33 (regarded as Ditko’s finest work). This massive 15” x 22” Artist’s Edition also includes dozens of classic splash pages, story pages, covers, and several never-before-published images from the early 1960s done for fans, with every page scanned from the original art.

“Steve Ditko, the co-creator of Spider-Man, was one of the most important and innovative creators in the Marvel Universe,” said Scott Dunbier. “His unique drawing style, coupled with an inventive sense of design, helped make Spider-Man one of the most beloved heroes in the world!”

“Scott Dunbier. Steve Ditko. Spider-Man. Say no more. You know where this is going and what’s about to happen,” said Mark Ditko. “A legendary book series showcasing a legendary creator on a legendary comic. A trifecta whose time has come. For some, me included, this is a surreal moment, to finally see this not as an imaginary blip on a phantom radar, but as a tangible, concrete book moving into production. This will be THE book of the decade. I can think of few publications that would honor his legacy more than Scott Dunbier’s Artist Editions. Prepare yourselves for something truly Amazing.”

An Artist’s Edition is an art book disguised as a comic collection. Although appearing to be in black and white, all the art is scanned in color, enabling the reader to see the work as close to the original as possible — ink gradients, blue pencil, and all the unique nuances that make original art so special — are all clearly visible and printed at the same size as drawn. The only better way to experience these pages is by looking at the artist’s drawing board, as they’re drawing.

"The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko Artist’s Edition is the perfect book to kick off this new collaboration between Act 4, Skybound, and Marvel,” said Sean Mackiewicz, SVP, Publisher, Skybound. “Ditko’s art transformed comic book storytelling, and this Artist’s Edition will showcase every spectacular brush stroke and detail like never before.”

“Steve Ditko’s monumental work on Spider-Man has long been a holy grail for me,” said Scott Dunbier. “It will soon be a dream realized to have this Artist’s Edition in my hands and be able to peruse Ditko’s magnificent art in all its glory!”

"The Amazing Spider-Man by Steve Ditko shows how Act 4's Artist’s Editions make fans’ dreams come true like never before,” said Sean Mackiewicz, SVP, Publisher, Skybound. “Steve Ditko’s art made us fall in love with comics, and now everyone can appreciate all the emotion and drama he captured on the board, that’s inspired countless artists and comics since!

I know at least one Legionnaire who's going to be excited about this!

EYE COLLECTOR #1

31127433852?profile=RESIZE_192XRising-star creative team Jonathan Ball (Last Breeds, Clockfire) and GMB Chomichuk (Blood Letters, Apocrypha: The Legend of Babymetal) debut an all-new cosmic horror in the upcoming The Eye Collector. This dizzying new series is set to launch in June from Image Comics.

“Each issue of The Eye Collector is designed to stand alone as an experience but also feed into a larger, multi-generational story that moves from the Moon to Earth to a weird, surreal future with shades of Metropolis and shadows of David Lynch,” said Ball. “Our goal is to make each issue its own world and stranger than the one before it.”

In The Eye Collector, an ancient being has its curiosity toward Earth reignited when the humans of the Apollo 10 mission make wishes over the Moon. But what is this spectral creature, and what does it want with our world? Seeing is believing…

Chomichuk added: “The Eye Collector is our irreverent experiment in comics storytelling, and over the course of the series you’ll see us using storytelling techniques that only work in comics. You look at the page, and it looks back at you.”

The Eye Collector explores themes of desire and fantasy while focusing on how our perspective informs and shapes our reality. We have seen, of course, nightmare versions of how this unfolds in the political and social world, as algorithms have transformed the media landscape into distorted funhouse mirrors, and AI increasingly makes our world hallucinatory and erodes our ability to discern the real from the deepfake.

However, the story focuses more claustrophobically on how the monstrous Eye Collector, who returns to Earth and begins to tempt the parents of a child living in a neglectful household with realizing their dreams in exchange for their son’s eyes.

“The Eye Collector is the exquisite and elemental territory somewhere below surface and somewhere above depth. It is insufficient to merely explain these pages, or even say you’ve read them. The correct reaction, I think, is to drool.” — Tony Burgess, author and screenwriter of Pontypool

“A bizarre, surreal trip into a child’s mind.” — Silvia Moreno-Garcia, The New York Times bestselling author of Mexican Gothic and The Intrigue

Sounds deliciously Lovecraftian. Plus, heavens to Wertham, it's the injury to the eye motif! I will certainly give it a try.

UNIVERSAL MONSTERS: BLOOD OF THE WOLF MAN #1 (OF 4)

31169879657?profile=RESIZE_192X

Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man, a new four-issue limited comic book series, is from the superstar team of writer Joshua Williamson (G.I. JOE, Superman) and artist Leomacs (Basketful of Heads, Rogues).

“As a big fan of the 1941 The Wolf Man film from Universal Pictures and the Universal Monsters comics line with Skybound, I knew I had to do this book,” said Joshua Williamson. “It’s very different from my usual superhero work. Easily the most tragic. It’s a dramatic, emotional, and heartbreaking comic about family and generation trauma. All key pieces of a horror story. Oh, and bloody and violent. It earns the Blood of the Wolf Man title in more ways than one. And of course, I had to bring along my Rogues partner in crime Leomacs. His art captures the pain of The Wolf Man and the world he’s living in. This is not going to be what you expect …”

“Universal Monsters films have always captured my imagination, as there’s so much humanity in these characters. They are all incredibly iconic because they are both tragically human and terrifying like a wild nightmare at the same time,” added Leomacs. “The Wolf Man has also always been a favorite of mine, so it’s a dream to draw this amazing character in a brand-new story and setting, penned by the amazing Joshua Williamson. Together we explore the Wolf Man’s bloodlust and the inevitable consequences.”

Adam Jaeger thought he could become someone new at college ... but not like this. One moment he was partying, the next he’s recovering from a massacre that left almost no survivors. The worst part? He might be responsible ...

As the monster within tries to claw loose, Adam will do anything he can to stop from becoming ...THE WOLF MAN.

“It’s amazing to see Joshua Williamson and Leomacs reunite to present this reimagining of the iconic The Wolf Man story. Josh is firing on all cylinders, adding to The Wolf Man mythos with wonderfully tragic and emotional storytelling, and Leomacs perfectly brings this 1970s world to life with his tense and visceral storytelling,” said Diegs Lopez, Senior Editor at Skybound. “Coming off the thrilling conclusion of Phantom of the Opera in May, we’re excited to now bring Universal Monsters stories to readers every month.”

“As a fellow monster fan and horror lover, I’m honored to be a part of this Universal Monsters cover series,” said artist Maria Wolf. “And that’s especially true for being able to draw the most wild monster of them all, the Wolf Man!”

"We are so glad to have the fantastic Maria Wolf do these beautiful covers, they perfectly evoke the horrifying and tragic story we have planned for this series. Her and colorist Mike Spicer are a dream team and were the perfect choice for these connecting covers.”

I have enjoyed every one of these, and fully expect to enjoy this one, too.

31179169082?profile=RESIZE_192X31179169100?profile=RESIZE_192XTim Seeley

Brand-new Godzilla design! Brand-new talking monsters! Brand-new kaiju-powered humans! Brand-new world! A new Godzilla comics universe begins here!

In 1954, experimentation with a mysterious energy source known as Kai-Sei awakened Godzilla and a host of immortal kaiju. In the years that followed, humanity has been pummeled by near-constant monster attacks. While Japan has begun to treat the kaiju like natural disasters — understanding that their attempts to fight Godzilla only make the threat worse — the American G-Force is going to fight, fight, fight. And the Americans have just discovered the ultimate tool in the fight against kaiju: A young boy named Jacen with the power of Godzilla. Able to harness the mysterious Kai-Sei in the same vein as the King of the Monsters, this boy will either save the world … or bring about its doom.

Collects issues #1-6 of the brand-new ongoing series — and concludes with the most shocking twist Godzilla fans have ever seen.

I may have to read this.

31179170696?profile=RESIZE_192X31179171066?profile=RESIZE_192XEthan Parker, Griffin Sheridan, Pablo Tunica

What’s going on inside the Deadzone?! Find out in this comic series set in the world of the all-new Godzilla Kai-Sei Era. Inside the new IDW Godzilla universe, there exists a mystery larger than any other … what is the Deadzone?

Inhabitants of this new world know the Deadzone to be a walled-off portion of the Pacific Northwest, cordoned off after the most disastrous Godzilla attack the country has ever faced. The government would have its citizens believe that nothing is still alive inside the Deadzone…but do you believe that? There are stories of a man…or rather, a half kaiju, half man … who travels freely throughout the Deadzone. Some say he can even kill a kaiju. Some say … this “wanderer” is not the only of his kind.

Journey into this mysterious new world with writers Griffin Sheridan and Ethan S. Parker (Kill Your Darlings) and artist Pablo Tunica (Godzilla/Ghostbusters 2, Sea Serpent’s Heir). Part of the new Godzilla connected comic book universe with Godzilla [Kai-Sei Era] and Starship: Godzilla!

I may have to read this one, too.

This ragtag group flies through space in Mechagodzilla and takes high-risk, high-reward missions across the galaxy. A kaiju heading toward your planet? Give them a call. A colossal space pest clogging up your trade route? They’ll get rid of it. A galactic civil war utilizing kaiju on both sides? They’ll … uh … do their best to stay out of it. But where there’s a galactic war, there’s a galactic conspiracy, and our crew members may not all land on the same side of this fight.

A brand-new kaiju space epic starts here in Starship Godzilla from Chris Gooch (In Utero, Under-Earth) and Oliver Ono (Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp)! Part of the new Godzilla connected comic book universe with Godzilla: End of the Reign and Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone!

HELLBOY AND THE B.P.R.D.: THE MONSTER OF NIVOLA

31179032296?profile=RESIZE_192X31179032673?profile=RESIZE_192XWriter: Mike Mignola · Christopher Golden
Artist: Daniele Serra

Rumors of a monster bring Hellboy to a nearly abandoned town in Sardinia, where the search for the creature leads to a local abbey with a shocking secret of its own.

Writer Christopher Golden and artist Daniele Serra join Mike Mignola in exploring the meaning of true monstrosity in this standalone Hellboy one-shot!

Great jumping-on point! Acclaimed artist Daniele Serra joins the Hellboy universe!

As we were discussing last week, Dark Horse doesn't make it easy for readers to follow the Hellboy Universe in trade. Should one rely on the trades, one would have to figure out the order on their own, as all Hellboy stories are now flashbacks to different parts of Hellboy's life, since his untimely death in 2011. (Hellboy was created in 1993. He's now been published longer post-mortem than he was published when alive. Who does he think he is, Elvis?)

And then there are books like this. Where will this be collected? And in what? If one doesn't buy this specific issue at this specific time, it's quite possible one will never have the opportunity again. Or that one will miss that opportunity, if it's collected with a bunch of stories one has already read.

MIND MGMT: NEW & IMPROVED #1

WRITTEN BY MATT KINDT
ART BY MATT KINDT

31180662264?profile=RESIZE_192XNEW AGENTS. NEW MISSION. NEW BEGINNING.

Oni Press — the multiple Eisner and Harvey Award-winning publisher of groundbreaking comics and graphic novels since 1997 — and Flux House are proud to reveal your first look inside of MIND MGMT: NEW & IMPROVED #1 — the FIRST ISSUE of an all-new, entirely self-contained entry point into the genre-bending, Eisner Award-nominated series that Entertainment Weekly calls “one of the most experimental and fascinating books in mainstream comics.” Sit back, relax, and feel your pulse steadily escalate to dangerous levels of over-adrenalized anxiety as New York Times best-selling creator and multiple Eisner Award-nominated cartoonist Matt Kindt returns to the scene of his definitive statement on the art of psychic espionage.

Ten years ago, the extra-governmental agency known as Mind Management exploded in a barrage of bullets and brain matter. Those that survived have gone underground — forging new lives with unremarkable identities and falsified pasts to obfuscate the strange abilities that once made them highly prized assets in the global war for psychic control. Now, two investigators — Detective Delphi and Detective Swan — have found themselves at the center of an unexpected puzzle. Here: A man poisoned in a coffee shop with a sophisticated neurotoxin. There: A supposed suicide victim run over by a train … with his arms found in a trashcan five miles from the tracks. Their connection: Someone is killing former Mind Management agents in improbable and arcane ways. … Seemingly impossible crimes committed by a faceless killer capable of evading even the most pervasive digital surveillance. What secret are they killing to protect? Who will be next? Has Mind Management returned? Did it ever go away? You are paranoid … but are you paranoid enough?

“If you have followed Matt Kindt’s work at any point over his wide-ranging, 20-plus year career, you have undoubtedly seen slivers of his genius embedded in everything from blockbusters like BRZRKR to brain-bending mysteries like DEPT. H and GILT FRAME. But even with a litany of hits, awards, and accolades behind him, I dare say that MIND MGMT is the best and most powerful example of Matt’s relentlessly innovative, hyper-powered creativity as both a writer and cartoonist — and, with his new series at Oni, you’ll soon see why,” said Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson. “A perfect introduction for first-time readers and a concentrated dose of retroactive obsession for longtime fans, you’ll soon see why MIND MGMT: NEW & IMPROVED is the perfect opening salvo for the new Flux House line at Oni Press.”

The first series to be released under Kindt’s acclaimed FLUX HOUSE banner at Oni Press, MIND MGMT: NEW & IMPROVED marks Kindt’s first ongoing return to the world of MIND MGMT since the original series’ conclusion in 2015.

    X-MEN ELSEWHEN VOL 1 (OF 3) HC

    31016959699?profile=RESIZE_192XBy John Byrne
    AbramsComicArts | April 2026
    US $35.99 | CAN $49.99 | UK £28.99
    Hardcover | 240 Pages
    7.5 x 11 Inches | Full-color illustrations throughout

Abrams ComicArts is thrilled to announce an expansion of its Marvel Arts line of original graphic novels featuring Marvel Comics characters with X-Men Elsewhen by writer/artist John Byrne.

X-Men Elsewhen is a three-volume series celebrating both the 50-year history of Marvel’s X-Men team featuring fan-favorite creations such as Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler; and also the culmination of longtime writer/artist John Byrne’s five decades of association with these characters.

X-Men Elsewhen began nearly seven years ago and featured John Byrne’s return to the X-Men, the comic-book franchise he helped grow to new heights with his work as co-plotter and artist alongside writer Chris Claremont and inker Terry Austin. That trio’s time on the series has served as inspiration for films, animated series, and numerous comic books that followed. Among the high-water marks co-plotted and illustrated by Byrne during this initial go-round were classic storylines, “The Dark Phoenix Saga” and “Days of Future Past.”

In X-Men Elsewhen, written and penciled by Byrne, inked by Byrne and Paul Wills, colored by Lovern Kindzierski and Leonard O’Grady, and lettered by Byrne and Patrick Brosseau, the central conceit of the series involves Byrne’s return to those storylines, albeit with one major difference: the culmination of the “Dark Phoenix Saga” saw Jean Grey, the Phoenix, make the ultimate sacrifice to save the universe from her power, which had grown too great for her to contain. In Elsewhen, however, the storyline picks up from that point but explores the never-published ending where Jean Grey survived the experience, albeit in a drastically altered fashion.

That story change results in an entirely different future for the team and the surrounding Marvel Universe of characters. In X-Men Elsewhen Volume 1, the characters return to Earth and face very different experiences in the Savage Land and beyond, in an expansive storyline that also features the Sentinels, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, Spider-Man and many other familiar faces.

“They say you can’t go home again,” said writer/artist John Byrne. “They’re wrong.”

“John Byrne has done something truly unique here,” said X-Men Elsewhen series editor Chris Ryall. “He’s created all-new X-Men adventures that not only serve as a reminder of why Byrne’s past work on these characters was beloved and influential, while at the same time presenting all-new and relevant stories that will captivate newer X-Men fans as well.”

“We’re incredibly excited to be publishing X-Men: Elsewhen with John Byrne,” said Joseph Montagne, Publisher of Abrams ComicArts. “This project is something truly rare. It offers a chance to revisit one of the most iconic runs in comics history, told by the original co-creator in his own voice. Byrne’s passion for these characters comes through on every page. We’re proud to bring this long-awaited story to readers through our Marvel Arts line and to add such a meaningful project to this collaboration between Abrams and Marvel.”

X-Men Elsewhen is the pinnacle of Byrne’s storied history of working on the beloved X-Men from Marvel. Volume 1 will be available April 2026 from Abrams ComicArts.

To say I'm excited about this is an understatement. Especially with Jeff of Earth-J teasing how good it is all the time!

The web-slinger spins new tales in his third year of newspaper strips, brought to life by the legendary duo of Stan Lee and John Romita! The action-packed strips are reprinted just as readers experienced them nationwide, with the full-color Sunday pages integrated with the dailies! There’s no rest for your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in 1979! From his prison cell, the Kingpin hatches a devious scheme to ruin Spider-Man’s reputation by unleashing an imposter to commit crimes in the wall-crawler’s costume! But that’s only the beginning—Spider-Man must also face the murderous Loomis, the leader of the L.O.V.E. cult, The Prowler, and the return of Kraven the Hunter!

These strips always struck me as watered-down versions of what I'd already read in the comics, with the added annoyance of the daily intro and outro. The Sundays were probably better, but I'm not sure I've read any. Of course, there's the Jazzy Johnny Romita art as an incentive.

A headless busty blonde; a face-stealing psychopath; a sleazy serial-killer sculptor; a horny handsome hunchback; a vengeful caterpillar cuckold; a torturous hangover in the pits of hell. Welcome to the raunchy and gristly world of FACE MEAT, from the decadent imagination of outlaw polymath Bonten Taro — ex-kamikaze, ex-yakuza, singer, songwriter, actor, world-famous tattooist, husband of seven, and underappreciated pioneer of “pinky violence” femme fatales and adult horror manga. While Mizuki Shigeru and Umezz Kazuo were paving the way for horror in shonen and shojo magazines in the 1960s, Bonten was secretly doing the same in erotic men’s rags — and the results are as trashy as you’d expect. With an essay by Bonten booster and B-gekiga expert Kunisawa Hiroshi, FACE MEAT includes fourteen hair — and pants — raising stories that have never before been assembled under a single cover in any language! FACE MEAT is the fourth volume of SMUDGE, a line of vintage horror, occult, and dark fantasy manga, curated and translated by award-winning historian Ryan Holmberg.

OK, that's a cover that makes you want to know more.

  • Hector Hammond was the villain in the Ryan Reynolds GREEN LANTERN movie so that might explain it since being in a live action film is a big deal!

And do we need another version of Hawkman to muddy the continuity waters?
