Comic-Selling Tips?

I've been contemplating selling off large chunks of my collection in pre-weeded long-box form. I've got something like six long boxes of stuff that I can do without, but now I don't know what to do with it.

I'm figuring the best approach is probably either CraigsList or eBay, but I've never done this before, so...has anyone had success doing this on either of those sites? How much do such things usually go for? Is it worth it to inventory/itemize the contents, or is it better to leave it as a "grab bag"?

Any tips anyone has on this would be greatly appreciated! :)

  • I think that unless you have something that is especially valuable that you won't have much luck selling as single issues. Many of the lots that I sold on eBay last year, about 70 issues each, went for five to ten dollars plus shipping. It cleared up some space and put a little money in my pocket but it sure didn't make me rich.

The Craig's List idea isn't bad, though. You could have a set amount per long box. It might even attract a dealer.
  • My only experience selling comics online was through eBay as well, but I was selling individual issues. I was out of work at the time, so I had the time to see what selling well and then be able to capitalize on the trend. I was mainly just selling some "hot" number 1s or series that were popular at the time. You will probably make more selling individually, but it will also take a lot longer. Do you want a fast nickel or a slow dime?

I pay those amounts, literally. 5 cents each in cash, or 10 cents each in store credit, for just about anything post 1980, and for a lot of pre-1980 stuff as well. 98% of everything I buy goes into the cheap bins.

The back issue market has just been brutal in the past decade.

Check out the Secret Headquarters (my store) website! It's much better now!
