Your local paper may or may not be carrying this story, but you can certainly find it on the Internet.
Basically, all those cups from the 1970s and 1980s are chocked full of lead where they were painted.
It's unclear, but it looks like the cups now carried by comic stores also have the same problem (The Wonder Woman and Green Lantern cups they cite seem to be the newer ones.)
I personally have about two dozen of these and drink from them regularly.
Crap.

  • I guess one of the few times I'm glad my mom sold everything at garage sales....
  • When I was a kid, we had glasses made of lead, with traces of glass in them!

    And we liked it!

  • Well, something was bound to kill me, sooner or later.
  • And we liked it!

    We loved it!
  • Lead is natural with no preservatives, sugars or trans-fats! And really, how much thinking is actual necessary!
  • Here's a longer story on the problem. I wish it would specify specific brands and lines. I have glasses from before I was born ... Looney Toons, DC heroes, Star Wars (which is mentioned), Smurfs, Tom & Jerry, Harvey characters.
Geez! I need a list of what's bad! (Though I should probably just assume they all are.)
  • Seriously though, I use regular non-lead glasses to drink from...

... with an Eaglemoss figurine inside!

I like the Ant-Man statuate for dipping in my drink. He gives it a pleasant, nutty taste.
