  • Looking forward to that tabloid-size Superman/Shazam facsimile!

    • Not to be Debbie Downer, but I was profoundly disappointed with the recent Superman/Flash one. Having said that, though, I'll probably still buy it (but I might not pre-order it).

    • The Flash one was all reprints, wasn't it? I mean, in its original incarnation it was already reprints. This is a new story (at the time) by Gerry Conway, Rick Buckler and Dick Giordano. I honestly don't remember if I enjoyed it, but I don't remember being disappointed. And I'd probably remember the latter. I'm sure it beats the "Captain Thunder" thing they tried in the regular books.

    • Yes, the Flash one was all reprints, but they were new to me (even in 2025). I checked my Shazam! the Greatest Stories Ever Told tpb to affirm it wasn't reprinted there (it's not), so I'll likely give it a try. I'm just not looking forward to it as much as Rob is, though.

    • It was the centerpiece of the 2013 Superman Vs Shazam trade paperback!

    • Hmm... I didn't buy that one. I don't even remember that one. Maybe I'll buy that instead.

      83973536628.1.gif

    • It also contained the four DC Comics Presents issues with Shazam but not the Captain Thunder story.

    • "Make Way for Captain Thunder" (Superman #276) is included in the Shazam! The Greatest Stories Ever Told tpb (2008).

      83734681648.276.gif

    • It was also in the 2000 Superman In the Seventies trade which I have but I got confused and thought that it was in Superman Vs Shazam!

    • Ah. You know, I thought I had that one, but I guess I don't. (I have Superman/Batman in the Fortires/Fifties/Sixties.)

      Shazam! The Greatest Stories Ever Told collects stories from Whiz Comics (1940-1953) #2,Captain Marvel Adventures (1941-1953) #1,137,148, Marvel Family (1945-1954) #21, 85, SHAZAM! Superman in the Seventies collects stories from Superman (1st Series 1939-1986) #233, 238, 247-249, 270-271, 276, 286-287, 298, 300; Action Comics (1938-2011 DC) #436, 466, 484, 491, 494; DC Comics Presents (1978-1986 DC) #14, Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen (1954-1974) #133; and Superman's Girlfriend (1958-1974) #106.

Superman vs. Shazam collects Superman vs. Shazam (1978) DC Treasury Edition C-58, DC Comics Presents (1978-1986 DC) #33-34 and 49, and DC Comics Presents (1978-1986) Annual #3, and the expanded edition adds Superman (2nd Series1987-2011 ) #216, The Power of SHAZAM (1995) #46, and Kingdom Come (1996) #4.
