Del Sol T-shirts that Change color in the Sun!

While in Skagway and Ketchecan, Alaska, I spotted a colorful t-shirt store that sold items that changed color in the sunshine.

That is, when exposed to the infrared light from the sun (or a bulb) the plain white shirt would change it's emblem. Instead of remaining white, the decal would reveal color (somewhat intense) and it would slowly fade away to white again when in the shade or inside.

Obviously, kids love this, and it looks best when outside in the sun or recently in the sun or solar radiation.

The point why I'm posting it here, is there were several Disney character shirts...Mickey, Donald, Goofy...but there were at least six Marvel Comics shirts that included the classic movie pose for the Avengers....Captain America's Shield... and a few Spider-Man shirts.

I looked on-line for these shirts, and could not find them on their webpage.

Also, there are several caveats... the color changing effect can be destroyed by the use of bleach!  And running it through the drier!  Or  Use of hot water...

But the kicker was the price....$29.00 per white t-shirt!  OUCH!

  • That sounds like the coffee mugs that have things appear and disappear because of the hot beverage.

  • Yeah, now that I think of it, that may be the technology exactly!  I wonder if those mugs wear out?

I got two...one is an image of the brain that appears in a shadow head when hot beverage is added...to promote MRI imaging.

The other is the Tardis showing up and fading away.  Doesn't make noises though...

  • How are you supposed to launder a white t-shirt without use of bleach or the drier during the winter months?

  • Woolite in the sink, and dry it over a shower curtain rod or something. I actually have a shirt like this that is the Cheshire Cat.

  • How long have you had it, and how many "washings" has it gone through?

  • I've had it for a good long while, but it was never in my regular rotation, so I never wore it much. Heck, I haven't worn it at all in 2 years, so I don't know if it is still working.
