1)This time the logo's alll metallic. Is this going to be a trend?

2)"Is you an alien?"  interesting reversal, where he lands in the Old West, and they're totally unphased by him being an alien.

3)"He shoots people's hats?"

4)I thought the gunslinger was reasonably well-realized.

5)"I speak horse. He's called Susan, and he wants you to respect his life choices."

6)And we see the Doctor with a gun again, somewhat overshadowed by Amy "Danger to Herself and Others" Pond with a gun.

7)"You wouldn't." "I genuinely don't know."  One does get the impression that the Doctor's losing it a bit.

8)Of course we had to have a showdown at the end!

Overall:

It's no "The Gunfighters"  ;) , but it's not bad. I liked the fact of how the various characters were not quite what cliche would have led us to expect them to be.

  • I told this story on another thread, but I watched this by myself and thought "I like the actor playing the sheriff.  He's got a good voice."  Then I watched it a second time with The Lovely and Talented, and a few minutes in she said "Is that the guy from Farscape?" and I went "DOH!"

  • Ah. Never seen Farscape.

  • Do.  It was loads of fun.

  • You know, I didn’t even notice that stuff with the logo changing.

This episode would make a good double-feature with “The Gunfighters” at that.

  • I made mention of this elsewhere but just a couple of points. I noticed the changing titles when 'Dinosaurs on a Spaceship' was green scales & then went back & saw the Dalek bumps on the previous episode. Also the Sherrif in this was also the head of SG-1 on Stargate after Richard Dean Anderson left you may know him from there as well.

I enjoyed the story for the most part but I found it a bit too reminiscent of 'Dalek' with Eccleston as The Doctor's main motivation is taking it out on someone else over his guilt with what he had to do in the Time War (although you DO tend to be a bit less guilty about giving a Dalek a hard time, I would imagine) but I wouldn't mind seeing a return to Mercy in the future.
