Doctor Who Reactions: "Boom" (SPOILERS)

  1. The Anglican Marines- our Steven's getting in as many callbacks to his era as he can.
  2. I'm thinking that the woman on the "ambulance" screen (Susan Twist) is the one that you're talking about.  She first appeared as Isaac Newton's housekeeper in "Wild Blue Yonder". (RTD on the Commentary Track: "We just kept using her (Susan Twist) because we liked her. There's no mystery behind it at all.")
  3. "The Villengard Corporation"
  4. "The Doctor being trapped on a landmine" is Moffat's riff on a similar scene in "Genesis of the Daleks".
  5. "I'm getting my Zen on. My landmine Zen."
  6. "There's more to life than the Moon and the President's wife." Another Moffat reference.
  7. "War is business, and business is booming."
  8. "And I'm not even a doctor." Like Dr. Phil!
  9. "I've met sentient mud. Lovely girls."
  10. "I'm a complex space-time event." Never liked that phrase. It depersonalizes him.
  11. "Calendar age: 3,082 years."  They have the companion's info on file, just like in the bspace whale one. Do they have everyone in history's info handy, in case they show up?
  12. "You declared war on an empty planet."  You idiots.
  13. "Faith - the magic word that keeps you never having to think for yourself."
  14. "Thoughts and prayers" - The most useless words in the English language.
  15. "Fish fingers and custard is my favorite." One last Moffat Era reference.

Overall: This was pretty good. Certainly my favorite of this set so far.

  • I'm thinking that the woman on the "ambulance" screen (Susan Twist) is the one that you're talking about.

It is. (I should have known you'd know more about her than I do.)

"We just kept using her (Susan Twist) because we liked her. There's no mystery behind it at all."

Oh, so? Who was it who said, "Showrunners lie"?

    "I'm a complex space-time event."

Or a "thermodynamic miracle" (as Dr. Manhattan might put it).

"You declared war on an empty planet."  You idiots.

That'd be like levying tariffs on an island populated only by penguins.

"Faith - the magic word that keeps you never having to think for yourself."

I'll have to remember that one.

"Thoughts and prayers" - The most useless words in the English language.

Agreed. I would be willing to lay odds that anytime someone says that you are in their "thoughts and prayers" you are in neither. My mom died in 2017. Tracy notified the couple that stood up for us at our wedding, and the wife wished us "thoughts and prayers." Her husband called me back as soon as she told him... two months later. We haven't spoken since.

This was pretty good. Certainly my favorite of this set so far.

    But not unique. ;)

    • Oh, so? Who was it is said, "Showrunners lie"?

To be fair, he was trying to be funny.

    • But he wasn't wrong.

    • Sorry, I meant that he was joking about using Susan Twist over and over being a coincidence.

    • Ah. I didn't get that. (I thought you were referring to yourself in the third person.)

    • The Baron would never do such a thing.
