Doctor Who Reactions: "Rogue" (SPOILERS)

  1. I'll say up front :I've never been a big fan of this "adventures of English aristocrats" stuff.  Not to sound like Dennis the Constitutional Peasant, but I can never forget that their oh-so-elegant lifestyle is made possible by their exploitation of the masses, which would've included my Irish ancestors. So, that will doubtless color my opinion of this episode.
  2. "Psychic earrings: Choreography beamed into your motor system." That's actually creepy - technology that controls your body.
  3. "Rogue" - I get a bad feeling that Rogue is RTD's attempt at creating a new "Captain Jack" type character, not that John Barrowman is unemployable.
  4. "Did you get your name from Dungeons and Dragons?" "Roll for Insight."
  5. "This job has so much paperwork since we got that new boss."  The same boss as Beep the Meep?
  6. If you look closely during the scene where Rogue's scanner shows the faces of the past Doctors, you will see the face of Richard E. Grant, who portrayed the "first" Ninnth Doctor in the 2003 animated episode "Scream of the Shalka", which was "decanonized" when thee series was revived in 2005 and Christopuer Eccleston became the "canon" Ninth Doctor.  The story I heard was that RTD dumped on Grant's performance at the time, and  including him in this scen was his way of apologizing. Don't ask me  (or RTD, I'd wager) where he's supposed to fit into continuity.
  7. The TARDIS groans. I'm sure that's an omen.

Overall: Another underwhelming episode.

  • Not to sound like Dennis the Constitutional Peasant...

    Another underwhelming episode.

    Agreed.

  • I think I have figured out why neither one of us were overwhelmed by "Rogue." It occurs to me that there were no few than three references to Bridgerton in it. I'll bet if you can find someone who is a fan of both Doctor Who and Bridgerton, his or her opinion might be quite different. (I am assuming that you are about as big a fan of Bridgerton as I am; if I have erred, I apologize.)

    • I've never seen Bridgerton, but as I said above, I've never been a fan  of that genre of story.

    • You and I are obviously not the intended audience for this particular episode.
