I really need a password app.

I have literally hundreds of logins: work, home, banks, online comic-reading sites and this website.

I've investigated a few free ones, but either they only allow one device (ha!), or they don't allow both PC and iOS devices (which I need), or they only allow desktop OR mobile (I need both).

So I guess I have to do a paid app. But investigating those took me down various rabbit holes.

Help! Can anybody recommend an app that will allow me to find passwords wherever I am, be secure and not cost me an arm and a leg?

  • I've been using LastPass for years. Last year they made the free version to be used on one device (there is a pay version that allows multiple devices). I just keep it on my phone, that way I can look up whatever I need no matter what I am using.

I also use Firefox as my browser, and it has a built in password manager. As I go along logging on to different websites using LastPass from my phone I then store them in Firefox as well.

  • I like LastPass well enough.  It is great for many uses.  But for desktop use Dashlane is superior, often logging things on automatically.

Now that LastPass free is so restricted, I decided to pay Dashlane.  Haven't used it on android yet.

  • I haven't used it, but "1Password" sounds like it might meet your needs.

A review from the unbiased PC Magazine:

  • All good advice. I had dismissed LastPass given the "one device" restriction, but hadn't thought of making that one device my phone and carrying it with men everywhere. OTOH, it wouldn't be useful for my wife when she needs one of my passwords.

    Much to think about.
