Thanks for posting that, Hoy. I'd almost forgotten Don had appeared in those two comics. Surprisingly enough, they seem to be his only appearances in comics. What a missed opportunity for publishers everywhere, based on how wildly popular those two issues were and still seem to be.
I have tried to forget about them for more than 40 years, but these fine Olsen/Kirby/Rickles fans deny me that capability. Over and over. And it's true--I didn't ask. I just bought them!
I was just watching an interview with him. He's as sharp and funny as ever. He recently had a close call with necrotizing fasciitis (AKA flesh-eating bacteria). He could have lost part of his leg but they got it in time.
...Perhaps if they changed the last name/didn't refer to it/used only an initial - oh , and changed the appearance a little bit/covered it up - Could DC still use the Goody character ?????????
I believe they own Refnew from JERRY LEWIS and Super-Hip/his SI from BOB HOPE and I've vaguely thought a " Refnew and Super-Hip " strip , with a now-grown up Refnew the agent for a hippy-dippy Super-Hip , constantly with an inflated sense of himself while playing casinos where the paying audience is mostly interested in the buffet and of course the slots , could be interesting .
I had thought that that strip could have a running joke of R. and S-H receiving postcards from their never-to-be-named uncles , on an endless trip together

Unlike Bob Hope and Jerry Lewis, I was under the impression that Jack Kirby used Don and Goody Rickles because of his personal friendship with Don. I don't think there were any contracts involved. Am I wrong?

I think the first time I saw him was in CPO Sharkey, other than that I know him from the Toy Story Movies.
I have never forgotten that Don Rickles appeared in those comics, because they traumatized my young brain.

Same here. "Don't ask! Just buy it!" were orders from the King. What else could we do?

He probably insulted the virus to death.
Here's a short clip of his appearance on Letterman. It doesn't include talk of his illness but if you watch it you'll see he hasn't changed.
