This is the third volume to feature the work of Denny O'Neil & Luke McDonnell, and the third to feature an introduction written by McDonnell. I've said this before, but Luke McDonnell strikes me as a really nice guy. Did you know that, in preparation for #182, he spent a night wandering the chilly Manhattan streets, wearing a theadbare jacket with a bottle of Thunderbird wine in his packet and lying on a subway grate to keep warm? I must admit I didn't much care for this run when it was new, but, after a period of "reassessment" (a term I picked up from Doctor Who fandom), I have come to appreciate them. these issues are toward the end of McDonnell's run. According to the yearly statement of ownership data (compiled at comichron.com), in '82-'83, the average sales figures were 187,564; in '84 it dropped to 177,659; and in '85 it went up to 201,092. Yet he was removed in an effort to shake things up and bolster sales. It was a different world.
EDIT: I just notice that that cover copy is wrong. This volume comprises #183-192.
