New 52: Wave 4

So we've heard a little bit of the New 52 4th wave, in dibs and drabs. Here's what we know so far:

1) Justice League of America is coming. By Johns/Finch

2) Threshhold, a new cosmic Giffen/Tom Raney book is coming up, too. It'll star a new alien GL, Blue Beetle, some Omega Men, plus a re-imagined Space Ranger, Space Cabbie, and the sci-fi swordswoman Starfire from the 70s.  There'll be a Larfleeze backup, with art from Scott Kolins.

3) There's a Scott Snyder/Jim Lee Superman book coming up. Not sure if it's for wave 4 or later.

And making room:

1) GI Combat has been cancelled with issue 7.

2) Blue Beetle has been canceled, according to the Threshhold article.

  • I will try all three. I will most likely stick with Superman. I'm hoping that JLofA is better than Geoff Johns' other JL title. Threshhold seems...okay. I don't care for Tom Raney's artwork, but I like Giffen and I like the concept.

  • I met Tom Raney yesterday at NYCC, but I didn't get any news out of him, except that he's done a bunch of character designs, and is working on pages for the first issue now. I'm kicking myself for not asking him what Starfire's new name will be.

  • A Scott Snyder-penned Superman sounds good to me.  He's been my favorite Batman writer since Brubaker ended his run nearly a decade ago.

  • Yeah, I think Snyder will do a great job on Superman... and I'm really looking forward to seeing him tackle a different style of story.

  • I'm not the biggest Lee fan, either, to be honest. But I like that Snyder's Superman book will have an artist that draws so much attention... and sales.  I want to see Superman be as successful as Batman, and this is a great step in that direction, I think.

  • The solicitations are out, and January's going to see more cancellations. Aside from Blue Beetle and GI Combat (a month early), Frankenstein, Grifter and Legion Lost are also getting the axe. I'm sorry to hear about Frankenstein -- I thought it had a lot of potential.

  • I bought Earth 2 #6 today, doggone it. It looked so good. Of course, nothing at all like the JSA of the DCOld's grandparents' age, but I'm hoping that it will be good on its own merits. I also gave another, random pass to Worlds' Finest. Admittedly, this was entirely because of Damien Wayne's involvement in the issue.

  • I will definitely give Threshold and Superman a try. JLA, it depends on who is going to be in it. Although if it is still going to be a $4 book I will probably pass.

  • The JLA lineup looks to be Green Arrow, Hawkman, Catwoman, Katana, Vibe, Stargirl, Martian Manhunter, Steve Trevor, and the new Green Lantern, Dax. (I might be missing someone, but those are the members that leap to mind.)

  • Steve Trevor? That's an awe inspiring name, is he the Jean Grey of the JLA? Not a terrible lineup, although I don't know how Catwoman works in there (or Steve Trevor for that matter).
